NMS is one of my favorite games of all time.

But I want it better. I want to one day remake the game with a much bigger budget and a much larger team with the hello games devs at it’s core. I want to just do everything that was missed out on. The game is much better now since release and the devs already delivered but I want much more from such a huge universe. Variety in planets, better procedural generation, much cooler storms, like tornados and tsunamis the size of mountains like interstellar. gas Giants you can enter with extremally high tech(but still have it be insanely dangerous), actual orbits and stars you can get close to, blackholes that feel like black holes. cities, much better AI, far more interesting battles on the ground, better space battles, better multiplayer. Basically taking the game and every other space game coming soon or already existing, mashing them together and pumping them up to 11, making the best damn game in existence.

Just a rant btw. Wanted to see if you guys wanted more added and what you thought. Not intended to bash the game, I love it.

Thoughts...

Let me preface the following by saying I own NMS on (3) platforms, I platinum’d the game on PS4, and have well over 1000 hrs spread across all 3 platforms. This little rant is a cumulnation of my experience from day one to now and my insight into what I want and I believe NMS needs.

Let’s rip out hat to Hello Games for the hard work and dedication they have shown to their game, the free updates, and their continued support and investment. Almost every other developer could take a page from them.

Over the years we have gotten a plethora of updates that have added numerous spheres of activity, some very welcomed…others, well, it’s content that’s been added.

I have been clamoring for quite a while now for a proc gen update with added assets. This is what NMS is at its core…a serene explorative kinda game. Imo it isn’t about min/maxing, collecting ships or multi tools, harvesting milk or eggs, it’s about the excitement of seeing what’s over the next hill or what’s in the next valley.

I understand that adding more content it adds to explorative aspect…but the environment we are doing this is remains the same. I appreciate any content we get in a 5 yr old game, hell that’s all bonus.

What we truly need is a proc gen overhaul, add in more assets, so that when we go after a diff ship, or hunt down those royal multi tools, we do so seeing something new, not something we’ve seen countless times. I’d be more inclined to spend time on planets if there were new items to hunt down, new minerals to collect, new fauna with new assets.

Now, at least for us old timers, the whole game feels repetitive and boring. We see nothing new…I really miss those early days of playing where I spent hours on planets, on foot, just wandering and exploring to see what I can find. Well the answer then is the answer now…pretty much the same thing I found on the last planet.

Anyone who has invested time into NMS already have maxed multi tools, max inv slots, max ships and max freighter/fleet…we don’t need more upgrades we need content. I read once, someone said, NMS is as big as an ocean but as shallow as puddle and I believe this is a perfect analogy to what NMS is.

In conclusion I believe we do not need a combat overhaul, we don’t need new multi tools, we need a proc gen update with a ton of new assets. What’s your thoughts?

Five years ago I wrote this:

“I cannot wait to boot up the game and just walk in any direction, exploring. To see what’s behind that cliff, or what’s inside that deep mysterious cave. Imagine climbing a mountain during sunset and just take a break up there. Hearing the wind and see how day slowly turns into night. Seeing blinking stars appear in the nightsky. Knowing that if you want to, you can get your own spaceship and visit those stars. I’m definitely ready to lose myself in this game. Experience the feeling of being completely lost somewhere and not knowing what to come next”.

This dilemma still holds up to this day.

It’s one of those games you can play however you want. As an adult with a full-time job and family, I value the chill exploration. No need to “keep up” with anything.

The link below is an email I wrote to Hello Games in September 2016:

With an incredible team as HG and their hard work, I can’t be anything else than grateful for what you’ve done for the game and yet alone, the community ❤️

Thank you.

Lost Worlds

Lost Worlds

My main game is discovery and documentation. I even have a record of my discoveries since the game doesn’t do it for me. After 6000+ hrs and returning to your homeworld only to find your discoveries disappear, as if you’ve never been there, is very disheartening. What’s the point of discovery when everything is fire and forget.. I know the universe is vast and emphemeral but nostalgia is much more powerful and important for explorers. I’ll drop this game for while to think about things.

Just a quick check...

Before I sack this lot, is there a way I can transfer these guys to another player? They took a bit of work to get and it seems like a waste to just have them disappear. Any ideas? submitted by /u/mildlyalarmingdave [link] […
