I'm loving this game, but...

It really needs some sort of “stop being so annoying” cleanup. Just QoL things, like being able to make more adjustments to the HUD. I’d love to be able to move around where messages appear, or even turn off my active quests entirely when I’m not pursuing one at the moment. Or maybe just having it stop randomly cycling through my quests when I AM working on one? Please? And stop telling me about my planetary chart. I know! I’m busy! I’ll get to it!

It’d also be nice to have the ability to look at multiple owned ships and multitools at once. Like a “garage” building that lets you compare the things you own. It could also serve as a way to repair broken ships, maybe? Because once you can afford to do so fixing broken ships is lucrative, but it is a giant hassle clicking every square and clicking every box in that square. Maybe the garage could be set to just repair the ship automatically over time, spending the resources automatically if they’re in storage. I wouldn’t mind just coming back later to pick up the repaired ship to keep or sell.

Oh, and could we please have the ability to hand off multiple relics at once? It doesn’t take long, but it feels silly and unnecessarily annoying to have to talk to the same guy 5 times and give him a single item every time. Just take all these, share with your friends.

Once I have the matter beam the ability to quick transfer to storage would be amazing as well. It only seems to work when pulling from the refiner and stellar core on my freighter right now?

The ability to name save points! And see a list of them somewhere, as well as the ability “forget”(delete) them from there, since inevitably I’d end up with 40 pointless markers that seemed interesting at the time but stopped mattering. Sometimes I want to mark an area, but without the ability to label them it’s basically useless. I don’t want to throw down a base every time I find something to come back to later, even if it is more convenient.

The ability to see the galaxy map from the ground. It’s a small thing, but sometimes I just want to see where that darn quest is.

The ability to mark a waypoint to travel to from my discovery log, both in system and not. Sometimes I know what planet I want, but having to physically get eyes on it in space can be a hassle. A marker would be handy.

Why do freighter fleets stalk me? The second I leave a planet or enter a system, suddenly an entire fleet just drops in near me. My OWN freighter doesn’t do that, just random ships hunting me like they want to talk about my ship’s extended warranty. I wouldn’t mind so much except they have a way of blocking my pulse jumps. I know you want other fleets to be around, but they could at least appear further away, and not between me and the space station. Please?

Could we get an analysis visor upgrade that actually tells you what a nearby building is? Say, within 300 or 500 units? Or just label beacons as something other than a building, because a flag, two boxes of geknip, and a beacon makes for a disappointing find when you were hoping for a trader, haunted terminal, or something.

And this last one isn’t a quality of life feature, but more things like derelict freighters! This game makes a surprisingly fun dungeon-crawler, so how about some more of that? Corrupted space stations, abandoned buildings on the ground, weird spatial anomalies. Whatever, I’m down.

I completed Exobiology expedition. Here's some tips!

I completed Exobiology expedition. Here's some tips!

I’d like to thank Sean for revisiting the last expedition. It was good.

  • Every phase has rendesvous mission which rewards 1k nanites and expansion slots. Some missions reward S-grade hyperdrive upgrade modules. If you clear these first, you can move efficiently. (There is also a mission that gives 3 warp hypercores as a reward.)
  • You start with 1 random companion. As soon as you start, summon the companion, ride it, and take a picture to easily get 50 creature pellets and 500,000 units for later use. Also it has 95% affection, so just pet and feed it and you’ll achieve Enduring Friendship right away.
  • There are missions that can be done simultaneously. For example you can do Digestive Analysis and Terrestrial Snaps while doing Swarmed missions. You can also do Sweet Tooth after Best-Laid plans, then A Discerning Palate right after. Don’t forget that some missions have rewards that can help you complete other missions!
  • Scan often. On missions, you will need to scan several flying animals, 4 aquatic creatures and 1 exotic animal. Also, there are missions where you have to collect 5 creatures eggs, long eggs, and large eggs, so it’s good to scan them in advance. If you see a large quadrupedal animal, it’s likely they’ll give you eggs when you feed them (I’ve heard it’s related to the animal class, but don’t know the details)
  • Take a good tour of the rendezvous planet. As far as I remember, there is a Diplo on the first planet, and a beetle on the second planet.
  • If you want to find an abyssal horror, adopt a beetle to get Nautilon blueprints, gather materials to craft, then craft a high-powered sonar in the tech slot and scan the sunken building. It’s there, so you just have to get close and escape when you’re being ‘watched’.
  • Upon completing the mission A Crowded Universe, you receive a Jetpack Power Surge buff for 300 seconds. Save it and use it to complete missions on planets with bone fossils! You can move around very fast and dig up bones fast!
  • Missions do not have to be completed in order. If there’s a mission you think you can beat first, do that first! The more rewards you accumulate, the easier your progress will be!
  • Quests that give explorer reputation include taking pictures of certain environmental planets, killing sentinels, scanning flora and fauna, etc. After warping, enter the space station to check and accept the quest! It will come in handy later when completing the Famous Explorer mission!

And that’s all. If you have any questions, feel free to write them in the comments. Have a nice journey!

New Ship Perk Suggestions

Long ago, NMS only allowed players to own a single ship, making it a major decision on which ship type a traveler should go after. However, realizing this felt clunky, updates have been made over the years, ship slots increased, new tech modules, and new features added. This was a great call, but it did leave one mark: the distinctions between each ship didn’t matter anymore; Haulers don’t even have the benefit of additional cargo space, since all S-class ships can have the same total number of slots.

I was talking ship perks with someone, and it got me thinking that perhaps it would make sense to introduce new strengths to less used ship types. As I was mulling it over, I realized that some of these changes would have to be pretty potent to stand up to current-day standards — poor Shuttles, their only real signature is that their takeoff price is reduced, made obsolete by the auto-recharge modules. So I decided to spitball a few ideas trying to stay true to the ship’s purpose while taking 2024 NMS in mind, and see if the following suggestions are strong enough to make you think “oh yeah, I’d definitely want to own a [ship type].”

Shuttles:

  1. 25% faster flight speed than others while in-atmosphere.
  2. 100% faster Pulse Drive speed.
  3. Takeoffs and landings are quicker and snappier.

Haulers:

  1. Cargo slots are double-sized, just like Freighters and storage containers.
  2. One storage augmentation slot unlocks two slots when used to unlock cargo slots.
  3. When the Teleport Receiver is installed, Hauler item teleport range is unlimited within the same star system.

Living:

  1. Increased chance of finding Space Encounters while pulsing. Alien Traders completely removed from encounter pool (Frequency 12 > 0). Odds of Rogue Black Hole and Relic Gate events tripled (Frequency 1 > 3).
  2. Eating food while in a ship refuels the ship’s hyper drive, pulse drive, launch thrusters, and damaged shields.

Explorer:

  1. Scanning one planet scans every planet in the system.
  2. Hyperdrive chain jumps. When setting a waypoint on the galactic map, can directly jump to that waypoint as long as the Explorer would have enough fuel to reach there, or up to 5 jumps (aka 5x listed hyperdrive range).

Let me know if these are along the right lines, and whether you’d fly one of these if they had these perks.

Just a Quick Appreciation

While I struggle with anxiety so it is difficult for me to egg myself into the multiplayer scene in the game, I just have to applaud ALL of you guys. This is the most non-toxic gaming community I think I’ve ever seen and I have been a gamer for a goood…
