There's nothing better than "permadeath" with scarce resources to make you appreciate the ...

When I first started playing a few months ago I was in normal mode and got insanely lucky. In the first
couple weeks I had an exotic land right in front of me in a space station and I had *just* enough to buy it with trade-in. The first freighter I was offered was an “S” class. And then not long after that I found a second exotic (a yellow and gold royal.) I even found a star system with three awesome planets (Bountiful, Tropical, Paradise.) For a while it was fun but got boring pretty quickly.

I kept that save but decided to start another one on permadeath with the difficulty ratcheted up a bit. MUCH harder and definitely frustrating, but a lot of fun! A lot more animals attack me on planet surfaces and pirates definitely seem more skilled in fights (a couple times I barely made it out alive after prolonged battle, when in my other save I’d dispatch them in less than a minute.)

I think I am just over 15 hours into it and still hanging in there. I have an “A” class fighter for a ship, and have not seen a single “S” class anything. I’ve only been offered one freighter so far and it was a “C.” I was in two other battles where I could have been offered a freighter but accidentally shot them while fighting the pirates and then had to deal with pirates AND sentinels with no reward for it. The struggle is real. Me in my other save: “Oh look, another exotic. I’ll add it to my collection.” Me now: “OMG is that sodium?! WOO HOO!”

My Request to Hello Games

I submitted this request to Hello Games for settlement improvements (I include it merely for anyone who wishes to read it). What ideas do you all have to make settlements more relevant and fun?

I really love the idea of settlements. Even though this is technically an MMO it can get quite lonely in space. I like the idea of being in charge of something and helping it grow. Unfortunately, it feels too disconnected. Trying to interact with the citizens only gives you the option to leave. When there is a matter to be discussed, it is never in person. Any visitor, dispute, or proposal is done through the comms system. It would be great to have citizens show up at the office with their complaints, to go to the town hall and see everyone voting on proposals. To attend farewell and welcome events for missions. It would be great to be able to use things like the dance hall. That was another thing, inconsistency. It had me build a dance hall but dancing was still banned. It would be nice instead of waiting for options f we could inact them. I would love to make the active choice as overseer to unban dancing and not just wait for that option. I’d also love to be able to live at the settlement. I would love to have a place of residence that I can modify and expand (like a freighter). Having to cheat by building a base on the outskirts and moving inwards isn’t as fun. Making settlements a lot more dynamic would be a ton of fun. Being able to allow friends to buy homes there would also be cool.

An idea for the future of No Man's Sky

Hello there

I love No Man’s Sky, and I think it’s incredibly rich in content. I’m just over 300 hours into the game and have completed all the challenges/accomplishments. However, I still want to play it, but every time I do, my gaming sessions come to a halt rather quickly, due to a lack of objectives.

That’s why I’ve had this idea in my head for a while, where No Man’s Sky could make its universe more lively and dynamic by creating more indirect interaction between players.

Let me explain: my idea is simply to create an in-game Guild system to bring communities together under a single banner.

Then, a guild would have to be able to conquer a star system, by destroying specific targets on the ground or in space. By default, these systems would be defended by the npc and then by the conquering guild.

These defenses could be strengthened/improved by the guild players’ investment of resources/money.

There could be a guild experience level per player, with guild rewards (similar to current community rewards).

I know that No Man’s Sky is not a PvP / war game. However, Hello Games continues to develop and improve combat and space battles. What’s more, it wouldn’t be direct frontal PvP, but more indirect, a bit like Ogame.

And the No Man’s Sky universe is vast enough to be enjoyed outside any guild-controlled zone.

I’d be curious to see how many systems a guild would be able to conquer.

I wonder if many of you would appreciate this feature in the game?

FREIGHTERS, my newest

I missed out on a lot of great stuff, not playing the first several Expeditions. Here in the NMS Reddits, I saw lots of talk about freighters. Naturally I got curious about them. I chose one, then learned that there are two basic classes of freighters. The very common System Freighters, and there are a bunch to choose from. Then, there are the Capital Freighters. Now comes in three flavors, Sentinel, Venator and Pirate Dreadnought. I have flown in all three, and now, in each of their variations. Though, until today, never even one ‘S’ Class.
I was doing the time pulsing my starship around trying my best to scare up just one Organic Frigate. I went to my Pirate freighters bridge, thought better of taking my Capital ship in first, and short teleported to the Hangar Bay, jumped into a new Sentinel starship, launched, then opened the Galaxy Map. I chose a nearby Pirate controlled system. And, jumped. Arrived smack in the middle of a big battle, with a Pirate Dreadnought attacking a big Venator Resurgent freighter. Aw, why not… I flew right to the rear of the Pirate, shot up all its warp engines, then eased up into the Shield Gen channels, blew all of those out, got the message to go get or destroy the Pirate ship….as usual, ya have to dock in its landing bay just to see what class it is and all that. I did, saw it was a C and that one lost out instantly. I flew out and shot it to bits. Then, just for giggles, I thought to check out that big ol Resurgent. I have two in other saved games, but alas, never an S Class. When I landed, I used F to check the deck for its info. What?! An S class??!! COOL! I exited, called in my Pirate Freighter, landed back in the Resurgent, ran up to the command deck (it’s forward!) (ha!) and I was gonna buy it outright. BUT the game has other ideas. It let me trade mine for this one. Oh gee, a B class loaded up at 193 millions for this S class at 23 millions? HECK YES IT’S A DEAL! Units. Nanites. Quicksilver. I gots them! I now also have a lovely S Class Resurgent level Venator type Freighter! FINALLY! I HAVE ONE! Yeah all it takes is just stumbling on one, lucky as THAT! LOL! Thanks for listening in folks, this was fun!

I finally GOT ONE! Yaaaay ME! :oD
