NMS HOT POST 2022/04/8

I’m glad I came back to this game

I played NMS a couple years ago and I really enjoyed it but always wanted more of a space sim type of game, so I ended up leaving NMS to play Elite: Dangerous (this was right around the time Odyssey was announced). Although I enjoyed the space sim aspect and more realistic look and feel, E:D was incredibly grindy. While some people enjoy that, I was never a huge fan, and that's coming from someone who flew 45 minutes real-time to get to Hutton Orbital. Anyway, the grindiness coupled with the fact that Frontier games are basically abandoning E:D on consoles (don't get me started), I decided to finally come back to NMS.

I originally played on PS4 (which I've since sold), so I had to start from scratch on my XSX. Not only do I enjoy NMS just as much as I always did, I realized the fun of the game and the ever-growing scope are way more important than "more realistic graphics" which I thought I wanted. Not to mention the fact that HG is probably the best game developer I've ever known, based simply on the fact that they've stayed so committed to the game and loyal to their fan base.

So yeah, I just wanted to make an appreciation post and give a shout out to the best space exploration game out there along with the best community (which I've always known from the start). The game is continuously getting better and I'm excited to see where it goes from here.

NMS Q&A thread! Ask questions, provide answers or just submit a tip. We hope this helps our valu...

This post will be refreshed every few days. The old post are still available for answering questions in those post.

Below are a few popular questions that we’ve received from our past FAQ thread. As always we ask that everyone be respectful and we welcome everyone’s contribution so have fun!

Q- I’m keen to start a new passive money making pursuit. What are some good ideas or guides post-Waypoint?

A#1- Gold farm, then take that stack and sell it at a terminal (not traders) in systems that sell gold. Sell all your gold to the terminal and crash the economy. Then buy it all back at 80% off discount. You just got free money and keep all the gold. All this takes is an initial investment on a gold farm, then you carry all that gold with you and just sell/buy back when you get to another system that sells gold. With 50 stacks in my ship’s cargo hold, I can make somewhere around 150 million units in each system I do this in.

A#2- Start a Farm, Fusion Igniters or Statis Devices Farm which will increase your profits to 100- 200 mil fairly quickly and you can even send out multiple freighter missions which will help you get aronium, magno-gold, Enriched carbon and more which will increase the profits even more.

A#3- Quickest way I’ve found to make a TON of units: Harvesting Storm Crystals. Find a VERY hot planet that has frequent fire storms. DURING STORMS ONLY – you can see the bright white light from Storm Crystals if you fly around low enough. Fly to them, land, quickly harvest them, get back in your ship and fly to the next before you burn up. Q-Where can I post ships and other cool stuff that I want to share with the public? A-You can always post on this sub and now the NMSGlyphExchange is live! Q-How do I get the Advanced Mining Laser? I don’t have the option to craft one, and the multi-tool upgrade vendor at the space station doesn’t have the blueprint for sale.

A- In order to get it, you have to look for the blueprints in crashed ships or abandoned facilities. You get it from the main story (awakenings) or you can buy it on the anomaly.

Q-What do I actually do in the game? I finished the tutorial, is there anything else beside gathering stuff, building a base and repeat?

A#1- It’s really whatever you want, there’s a base story, (assuming you haven’t completed it already), follow the quest log and you’ll figure it out, but things You’d want to do for end game? You can collect multiple multitools, ships, built a fleet for your freighter, etc.

Q- Is there a planet that is populated by many players, and they built their base close to each others like a city?

A- Yeah its the Galactic Hub Project, Its a place where many people have bases and each day the numbers grow. Please help yourself. There are many factions in NMS that do this, even NMS Pirates Hub.

Q- I’m still pretty early into the game, just making my way to the center of the galaxy, what should I be spending my credits on?

A- Go hang around a outlaw/pirate trading post. Cheapest S-class start at around 8-8.5 million without a trade-in. I recommend Vykeen pirate, as then you have two good and 1 remote chances at high-maneuverability S-class: fighter, solar, exotic.

Am I doing space combat wrong, or is this it?

I’ve owned this game since release, and have finally gotten into it, sinking 100+ hours in a couple weeks. Loving it – aside from space combat. Having played Elite Dangerous a ton (and I’m sure you’re all annoyed hearing the comparisons constantly) and being pretty damn good at combat from smaller agile ships to larger ones, NMS just isn’t clicking with me?

I just got my 150 kill milestone, and I’m pretty sure I just hold ‘S’ and shoot for all of them. I’ve tried chasing and using different loadouts, but it doesn’t matter, because the AI just does some crazy tight turn and flips on me, and their shield are back on in 0.5 seconds. I landed on cyclotron for shields and infraknife for hull because nothing has the RPM or velocity to break shield and do hull damage, but from what I’ve seen from searches here, pure infraknife is just OP and the way to go.

So am I doing something wrong, is this just it? Hold ‘S’ and shoot with infraknife? I’m not dogging on this game in any way, I just want to know if there’s a way for the space combat to be more fun. I want to be able to chase and stay on a craft’s tail while using different weapons, or loop or scissor out of someone chasing me. The AI seems like they can pull crazy maneuvers and then be simultaneously braindead, I either have a 0.25 timeframe to shoot, or they just fly straight.

Ok, all you salty susans. Explain to me how having ship crafting ruins hunting.

Does it mess with your clout? Is the authentication thing not enough for you? Do you have the mental fortitude of a piece of soggy toast and you’re scared you’ll just want to scrap everything you’ll find? Is it a status thing? Do you think finding a ship naturally makes you somehow better than the rest of us?

I don’t get it.

You can still find ships naturally, that never went away. They even come with built-in bragging rights, why are you so mad? What compels you to argue for barring customization for the more exotic ship types?

I’m not trying to be insulting in this post (maybe snarky, but not insulting.) I just don’t agree with you and I don’t see where you’re coming from at all.

Ship hunting is one of my favorite parts of No Man's sky and it is NOT ruined

I don’t interact with like 50% of the games content anyway so if something optional like shipbuilding will make me upset I can just ignore it like I ignore pets and farming and auto miners and literally any space combat. I haven’t played the update yet but the one thing that I do hope for is for unmodified naturally generated ships be unmarked while visually customized ships have some kind of tag in the UI. But if not it’s not a big deal.
