NMS HOT POST 2022/05/31

Are you new player looking for some tips to get you started? Are you a veteran player with some advice you want to pass along? Looking for a good way to earn units, nanites or just how to get the most out of the game? Check out our new FAQ thread!

Here's some of the FAQ suggestions we received in our previous FAQ thread. Keep in mind that these are opinions from some of our valued OP's and you may agree or disagree with some of these. We just ask that everyone remains respectful when replying to this thread and we look forward to your contribution! NMSTG Mod Team

You can also drop a quick tip!

Tip #1: Always try to be doing multiple things. Pick up the portable refiner so you can refine something from your inventory while exploring and mining.

Tip #2: Avoid multiplayer until unlocking the anomaly, can be stranded if not.

Tip #3: Exotic worlds only have 1 fauna so it's easy to scan all of them.

Tip #4: Need glyphs? All 16 are on one planet here

Q- "I was on the Anomaly and a bunch of expensive stuff showed up in my inventory. What do I do with it? A:" Congrats! Another player has bestowed you with a gift. Most likely it is an item to sell for some quick and easy cash. Usually the item description will tell you what it is used for.

Q: "Help, I claimed a broken ship and now I can't find my starter ship! Is it gone forever?" A:" If you merely selected to "claim" the broken ship and not "swap" it, then your old ship is still around. If you left it with launch fuel in the tank, you can summon it with the quick-menu. If it does not have fuel, it can be summoned on the Anomaly (once you unlock it), your freighter (once you acquire one).

Q- "Are crashed ships worth repairing?" A-" Unless it is an exotic, no. Scrap the ship at the space station, sell the items it gives you, and use those units to buy a better, working version of a ship in that system.

Q- "Any advice for new players?" A-"For new players, make sure you read the guide in-game. It's an excellent beginner's guide for traveling, learning about the alien races, building, and etc. Take a look over the catalogue of items too. Also, I'd strongly suggest mining a massive amount of carbon, oxygen, and sodium. These three items will be some of your most used and critical items in the game

We all love the pirate freighters, and a lot of us want to get them. I have an idea.

Here we go.

There will be 2 ways to defeat pirate freighters. A bit like how there’s 2 sentinel combat methods. One of them is the current ship-freighter combat. It’s what we currently have now. You get the rewards, maybe a bit more than currently. The second way of defeating the freighter is that you have to board it. You land in the landing bay (which is similar to the standard landing bay, but without the annoying middle platforms!), and the new “pirate defense drones” are trying to kill you, very similar to sentinels. The goal is to disable equipment by reaching parts of the freighter through access hatches and shooting the control panels to break them. This will disable each part of the ship, for example, hyperdrive, fleet control system, anti-ship guns, anti-freighter guns, and finally, the defense drones controller near the heart of the freighter. There will be a time limit, if you don’t destroy the hyperdrive in time, the freighter will warp away and chuck you onto a random planet in a random system. If the civilian freighter is destroyed (by anti-freighter guns or the pirate frigate torpedoes), you will have a short amount of time to escape on your ship. However, if all systems are destroyed, you can reach the bridge of the freighter. There, you will arrest the ship’s captain (just by talking to them), which will be teleported away by sentinels. After that, a dialogue box comes up, saying that the ship is eerily silent, and that you’re alone on it. You are given the option to salvage the freighter for materials and cargo, or, you can take the freighter as your own. Currently, I can’t think of any special buffs that a pirate freighter would have, but it will have some positive buff.

HG will never see this. I have written this for absolutely no effective reason. However, it would be insane if this was in the game. Please give credit if you decide to share this by the way, which probably won’t happen.

P.S. shout-out to the guy who suggested I post this, because I really wouldn’t have if they didn’t say so(I forgot his username btw). I only intended to write this suggestion as a fun comment. So, thanks to them.

Happy exploring, travellers!

Where did all these credits come from?

I’m new to the game, something like 26 hours in. I recovered like 4 ships just to scrap for a money boost of around 35 mil or something.

When I scrapped them, credits didn’t go up. Then later as I was organizing inventory, I realized I have to sell the retrieved scrap components to get the credits. So I sold all of them and walked away with over 1 BILLION credits….

I don’t know what happened. I recall at some point in my play gathering stuff from a wrecked freighter on a planet, destroying a frigate in battle, etc, but over 1 BILLION worth?

Is that amount of money normal through storyline+random gameplay or did a bug of some sort perhaps occur?

Me and the Boys

Me and the Boys

I have two best friends who stopped playing NMS for a really long time because of their job (I have a job too). I felt a little bit sad that time.

After several days, I found out about the squadron feature. I’m like, okay, this is cool. I have starships to fight with me when doing pirate missions. Hours later, I thought maybe I could recruit a pilot who has the same ship as my bois. It’s so awesome when there’s a freighter battle or conflict; they will warp in then engage, I really feel like I’m fighting with them. Every so often, I even let them have the last hit.

Sometimes when roaming in space, I’ll call my squadron to feel like I’m playing with them.

We’re still active in chats though, and that’s why I’m not that sad. I just thought I’d share it here :>
