NMS HOT POST 2022/06/12

13 Hours in and I finally beat Expedition 7. It was my first one!

Long time fan ever since it first came out in 2016, I’ve persisted throughout several iterations of the game, and not once have I felt the incredible sense of awe and relief that I do now. The story of expedition 7 was interwoven in a way that made me want to complete it when the other ones didn’t give me that same appeal.

I felt an intensity from the rogue like elements that made me carefully plan my next steps in order to get to the next part, and it was honestly the most fun I’ve had. It captured exactly what I wanted to see all those years ago on release.

I ended the loop, and felt extremely grateful for the experience. Good on you, Hello Games!

Total beginners help?

Yes, I bought this game after the announcement of Starfield. I had no idea a game like this even existed. How sad. I started a few times so far and got totally lost after I left the beginner planet… First time I was killed in like 20 seconds after landing, next time I wound up so far from any planet I had no idea what direction to go… I’m just really confused, aren’t there any kind of markers or tutorials for newbies like me? The game looks awesome, but man… Frustrating to start. Any help would be greatly appreciated…

As a Day 1 player, the feature I'd like the most right now...

…is Vortex Cubes as base decorations.

I’m 100% serious. A very small, simple request. I want to be able to place Vortex Cubes all over my bases.

Why? For all my fellow Day 1 players, you remember back when the game launched in 2016 when Vortex Cubes ruled the entire economy pretty much? If you found a planet with Vortex Cubes, you hit the jackpot, and you stayed there and grabbed all that you possibly could to turn in at trading posts to buy a new starship. Sometimes, they even looked like this on planets.

Vortex Cubes also were used to craft one of the hyperdrive upgrades before NEXT dropped if memory serves.

Now? They’re barely worth anything. They can’t be crafted, can’t be cooked, or refined, they don’t even drop Tetracobalt anymore. They’re just used for selling to make a very small amount of units.

The way I see it, just add them as base decorations at least to let us build cool stuff with them.

Just my two cents. Call it nostalgia for NMS 2016 if you must, but seeing Vortex Cubes in game always takes me back. I just want to be able to actually DO something with them again. What do you all think?

PSA: "Omega" does not necessarily mean "the end". Don't assume anything about th...

This seems to come up in every thread about Expedition 12: Omega, the upcoming expedition and update that is currently in beta for PC players who want to test it out. Streamers have little else to do but speculate and spoil, so perhaps some of the anxiety comes from watching them, too.

There are separate teams for Hello Games projects. This happened with The Last Campfire – NMS continued to be updated both during its development and after its release. There’s no reason to think Light No Fire, despite being visually and possibly plot-wise more connected to NMS, is going to “take away” from NMS development and updates. “Omega” has meanings other than “the end” – the symbol is used in many ways in science and math. And does anything ever really end in No Man’s Sky, anyway?

Honestly, I don’t think anything other than the announcement of a direct sequel to NMS would be reason to be worried. But in that case, we’d be looking forward to a whole new chapter in the same universe anyway!
