I'm impressed - this game is great!

Years ago, I succumbed to the NMS hype and bought the game. Played it for a few minutes and was absolutely disgusted with the performance, clunkyness and lack of features.

I’ve owned and refunded this game twice since then.

But now… I started playing with a friend a couple of nights ago, and it’s a breath of fresh air!

I didn’t keep up to date with features and patches, but had heard the game was greatly improved.

… I can summon a deathstar, be a gek, have my own star fleet… All these things I’m discovering for the first time.

It’s seriously amazing!

Thanks!

I'm a player since launch. 1000 hour save, done it all. I do not understand the anger at all.

I’ve put in 15 hours or so into this latest patch and I have to tell you, it’s mildly annoying at best. Certainly not worth all the hate and nonsense. Two major things were noticeable to me in this patch. My jetpack fuel was definitely nerfed into the dirt and my ships were all jacked up.

I fixed my exosuit slots and aside from the jetpack fuel it doesn’t feel any different to me. I like the fall damage breaking stuff, its a neat little survival thing they added. I think I can live without being able to almost jet pack into space anymore.

Once I got my main ship reorganized the only bummer is my warp range was cut in half. My damage output went from killing stuff in 4 seconds….to killing stuff in 10 seconds. Hardly a difference. The warp distance nerf might actually make me work on my freighter finally and use it for travel. Not that bad. Since I’ve been living in the same neighborhood for 2 years I’m okay with losing 1500 light years off my max.

Multi tools are crazy buffed now since you can basically outfit one with everything and as far as damage output goes…they still shred everything. Not seeing an issue there. On foot combat being half of the reason you even min max mods anyway has remained unchanged in my opinion.

Basically we got easily the craziest buff to inventory space since launch and all it cost was a bit of jetpack fuel and warp distance….is that really worth all this anger? Also I’ve been here since launch and I see this as a new beginning. I think it’s easy to assume an overhaul on upgrades is probably in the works. Give it a minute. Geez.

I love the new added depth to standing, frigates and trading!

I know the space stations and ship building are the highlights and everyone is talking about them, but I just wanted to share my love for some features that I seriously appreciate but aren’t really talked about:

First, I’ve always complained about the standing system being completely pointless. Even when Outlaws came out and gave us the ability to reset our standing, I kept thinking there was no point for it, apart from like one mission being locked off, it genuinely felt like the numbers you saw in your catalogue were completely detached from the actual gameplay. So I’m finally overjoyed that it has a genuine purpose now with discounts! Prices in station shops reflect your standing with the race and it tells you by how much! It’s a start I’d say, but a really impactful one too!

The guild now also has a physical presence and no longer feels like some imaginary concept that was also entirely detached from the game and only existed as a number in your catalogue. Now they’re actually in the game (I still haven’t figured out what determines which one of the 3 appear in stations) and raising standing with them is actually really encouraging since they give you some really useful items either for free or at a discount. Increasing standing with them is also much easier now with the new donation mechanic rather than doing missions.

Next, the frigate expeditions once again always felt like an imaginary thing; you sent them out on expeditions, waited a few hours, and they’d say what happened and you had to pretend it was true while they gave you the loot. Now there’s an actual consequence that you get to be involved in. Instead of the whole thing being a passive money making thing, they occasionally ask you for advice or help protect them from enemies. One time I was asked to warp to their location and land on a frigate so I could read a message they found and they asked me what to do… turns out the language I knew directly affected how much of the text was readable and I could make an informed decision, so knowing the language has more meaning as well!

And lastly, the trading. It was something I knew existed but 100% ignored. But now the economy scanner has a new function where you can choose to detect economy surges and it’ll tell you which system to invest what in, and it’s on a timer so it’s like a little mini game to get rich. Trading is actually kinda fun now that there’s an actual guided mechanic around it.

Hello Games finally gives ship customization, and all most people can do is complain? After asking f...

So, most every major update in the last few years, I have always seen a post or many asking for when are we going to get ship customization, and lo and behold with Orbital update, the holy grail gift that many have been chiming for years has arrive!.

And now all I see popping up in the subject is complaints, complaints and complaints!?

You guys realize this is only the first iteration of ship customization, and that more refinements, more additions and more content will arrive down-the-line.

Why in the holy name of the Atlas, Can you not be satisfied and enjoy, What has finally been asked for for years? With every update. It’s finally here.

But oh no, “it’s not perfect to my expectations. I must complain complain complain.”

Will you all seriously get off the soap box and actually take it for the glory that it finally is and stop complaining. That ship hunting is dead, because we still need to know where ships are to get certain parts and customizations. And maybe because the color black isn’t there is because it would screw with the current system that they have employed. They do have to account for possible glitches.Or other problems that adding something in may cause, black might override other color palettes without intention, and it will arrive in another update soon.

Can you all actually offer genuine critiques, And feedback to hello games for improvements, rather than pissing and complaining about what’s not there. Because it will eventually be. You all need to seriously stop with this repeated garbage of complaining, that comes with every update.

I for one find it rather boring to read. Oh, no complaint, complaint complaint rather than use your brain and say Hey, hello games, here’s a list of things that could be improved.

Because the Devs are not beholden to your narcissistic, Singular viewpoint of how the game should be.

THIS IS UNEXPECTABLE

I paid $20 of my hard earned dollars on this game 6 years ago on sale and grew up with this game watching the devs put I’m so much time, given so many updates for free and having a vibrant community to play with and I have to wait a whole extra few days to play this orbit update??! I’m selling my xbox, PC, house, and am moving on to be a nomad, maybe that’ll teach those lazy devs a lesson and they’ll get their updates pushed out faster, irregardless of Microsoft having to approve and push the update themselves, and also irregardless that HG has zero point zero to do with that
