NMS HOT POST 2022/11/8

300hrs, and I have never just run across something like this… It was just a “Fuzzy” spot in space. Glyphs in the photo if you wanna try and check it out, but can anyone tell me what exactly I’m looking at here?

Immersion ideas

So this game is primarily about exploration and discovery so flying through space and landing on different planets is the core gameplay loop. I had a few suggestions to make that gameplay a little more spicy without overhauling anything.

  1. Animations: Little details like your guy actually climbing into the ship instead of teleporting into it, or fiddling with the ships instrument cluster when you thrust forward or switch weapons, or recharge shields or activate pulse drive etc. Think of the way your hands move in elite.

  2. Immersive menus: The way elite dangerous does them, you look at a panel and interact, that pulls up the specific menu you were looking for. Wanna open the galaxy map? Look at one of your ships many panels and it opens up a holographic galaxy map like the Idroid in MGSV, so it’s still useable, but a tad more immersive. Same thing can be done with hailing messages, or byte beats even switching to third person. I believe the term Is diagetic menus?

  3. Physical ships. So, instead of installing ship mods, or repairing your ship in a menu, you enter a sort of build mode go to the specific part of your ship that needs to be modified or repaired and make your additions. No more dragging things into an inventory slot. Actually get out and attach modules where you want them. They can even have their own hitboxes so they can get damaged and you’d have to fix them through that build mode and not an inventory menu.

I think that’s all I could come up with. What do you guys think? Any other immersive tweaks?

Archeology Overhaul Concept

Archeology Overhaul Concept

-Introduction-

Archaeology in its current state is interesting, but feels like a bare-bones (pun intended) concept that could be expanded on. Implementing the following ideas would make archaeology a much more interesting and lucrative venture.

-New Ancient Ruins Models-

More model variation for explorable ruins would obviously make things more interesting. Locked doors requiring material charge or specific keys would also add to the intricacy of searching for artifacts. Behind these locked doors would be bonus loot. Having new cave and underwater ruins that can’t be discovered with planetary maps, only monoliths or random exploration. These ruins would have better odds of having an incredibly valuable artifact.

-Remove Visor Scan Indicators-

Getting rid of the indicators revealing the location of the underground keys and chest would require you to physically excavate the area to locate the keys. This would cause players to reveal more of the ruins’ structure instead of just digging tiny holes to the keys, making it feel more like true excavation. Making artifacts more valuable and adding random loot containers would make it worth the additional time spent digging.

-Planetary Archive Changes-

Planetary Archives become a player community hub for artifact collection. Instead of the artifact swap system currently in place, you would put the artifact into the device and it would be scanned and recorded and then can be taken back out to be sold like normal. A new option will be available at the computer terminal in the archive structure that allows you to view all artifacts uploaded into that specific archive as well as which “scientist” contributed the discovery. This would allow groups of friends to work together to gather a large collection of rare artifacts and anyone who visits the archive could view what was there, sort of like a museum. It would also be neat if you could store other “artifact” type items like salvaged scrap, ancient bones, and deep space oddities.

-Nanite Rewards-

Introduce a new NPC artifact collector that is located at any “Planetary Archive” point of interest that sell ruins maps and keys to unlock doors in ancient ruins to access bonus rewards. They would also buy artifacts for nanites, which can be done after uploading the data to the archive.

-Conclusion-

An archaeology overhaul would be a fun and interesting content update and would be relatively simple to implement into the game. “`

was doing some research and ran into this which could help a lot of people. Thank you unknown Reddit...

My phone goofed and I can’t seem to find out who it was or where it was from, but this is helpful information.

“A complete listing of all possible types of planets which can generate and a system to classify them, based on my observations of 150 star systems

Everyone knows that there are seven biomes, right? Well, kind of. Today I’m going to explain my system for classifying planets, and list every type of planet that can exist.

Seven basic biomes: these can occur in Standard [STD] or Extreme [XTR], and can be low-security or high-security [HS]. In space, XTR planets can be determined from scans by whether or not their chromatic metal [copper, cadmium, emeril, indium] is marked as “activated.” Activated chromatic metals only occur on XTR planets. This means there are seven biomes, two extreme-ness levels [except for airless], and two security levels, for a total of 26 basic types.

  1. Humid [paraffinium, star bulb]
  2. Cold Desert [pyrite, cactus flesh]
  3. Hot Desert [phosphorous, solanium]
  4. Frozen [dioxite, frost crystal]
  5. Irradiated [uranium, gamma weed]
  6. Toxic [ammonia, fungal cluster]
  7. Airless

Next, each planet can have three different types of ocean level:

  1. Type P [Pangaea] – planets with no water at all [all moons are Type P by default]
  2. Type O [Ocean] – planets with oceans but still with large continents
  3. Type A [Archipelagic] – planets dominated by water with only small, island landmasses

Last, each planet can have five levels of hostile animal activity [this is a qualitative scale, not a quantitative one]

  1. Zero stars – no predators recorded
  2. One star – Predators exist but attacks rare or non-existent
  3. Two stars – Predators exist and attack occasionally
  4. Three stars – Predators exist and attack often, interfering with other activities
  5. Four stars – Predators attack so frequently it is difficult to engage in other activities

There are also anomalous planets. These come in two large categories, anomalous and exotic:

  • Anomalous planets: Always Type P, only have one species which never changes between iterations. There are 10 subtypes: Bubble, shards, beams of light, tall robots, techno ruins, hexagon world, mechanical mushrooms, shells, and giant concrete spores,.
  • Exotic planets: can be of any ocean type, normal or extreme weather, high or low security, and have a normal complement of flora and fauna species. There are, to my knowledge, six subtypes that overlap somewhat:
  1. Mega Aquatic – contains extremely large versions of underwater flora
  2. Mega Toxic – contains massive versions of flora from toxic worlds. Mega Toxic worlds aren’t actually toxic though
  3. Mega Humid – contains massive versions of flora from humid planets.
  4. Mega Desert – contains massive versions of flora from Hot Desert planets. Has normal temperatures though
  5. Boundary failure – contains only large, ringed mechanical structures
  6. Stone ring world – contains large stone rings. May occur with colossal flora as well.

This system can be used to quickly classify any planet:

  • HS Xtr Toxic (A)*** = a high-security extreme toxic planet mostly covered in oceans, with relatively high predator danger
  • Std. Frozen (P) = A regular-weather, low-security ice planet with no water or predators
  • HS Std Mega Humid Anomaly (O)* = A high-security exotic biome planet with massive palm trees, oceans, continental landmasses, and predatory creatures which don’t attack the player”

I would love to give credit so if anyone knows who it was that made the original post I will credit them the moment I find out. Hope this helps 🙂

Lost all units

So I found my first dreadnought after getting my first freighter. I did all the objectives but the fleet civilian fleet got destroyed. I still was able to go inside the dreadnoughts and get it for free and switching it with my freighter. But now I lost…
