I came back after 5 years because I got excited seeing all of the content they had. After 2 days…. I’ve fell through my freighter to my death in space, running into walls that aren’t even there, friends walking through my freighter walls, my starship completely disappeared from my list (lost the starship, inventory, and all of my s class upgrades, also a unique the Crystal Wing), friends can land on my freighter but can’t see me. Game shows that my brother is currently hosting multi-player but he is asleep and clearly isn’t, i found a broken s class sentinel ship but couldnt interact with it and could walk through it like it wasnt there (i actually reloaded my autosave and was able to get the ship WITHOUT repairing it, was just automatically added to my list and when i clicked transfer my items, my ship just disappeared like houdini. I am EXTREMELY thankful they give all of these updates for free but what good is additional content if it’s so buggy you can’t enjoy it? I wish they would focus more on performance for once instead of content. I feel like it’s the equivalent of focusing on graphics rather than gameplay. They are focusing on content rather than performance it seems.

I play on pc with a ryzen 7 5800k and 24gb ram and a Gtx 1050 on the lowest settings nearly (i know its a super old card, just dont have funds to get a new one) and still get 10fps on planets and 25fps if I’m in space. At first I thought it was my pc but then my 2 friends whom use xbox one and ps4 have similar issues. They couldn’t explore my freighter because of invisible walls blocking them. I’ve also had my starship dock in the same spot as my friends so the were clipping through eachother. I freaking love this game but I’m so destroyed inside because it’s almost unplayable. I don’t mind bugs, I actually expect them, no game is perfect but when game breaking bugs occur, then that’s when I have an issue.

To anyone who plays on permadeath, mad respect because I died by falling through the floor of my freighter. If I was playing permadeath, I would have broken my keyboard and punched a hole through my monitor.

Sorry about the rant. I really REALLY love this game but it’s borderline unplayable because I keep losing stuff and can’t get it back. Yes I have also had to reload autosaves just so I don’t lose stuff but it’s hard to tell when a bug will occur.

There's nothing better than "permadeath" with scarce resources to make you appreciate the ...

When I first started playing a few months ago I was in normal mode and got insanely lucky. In the first
couple weeks I had an exotic land right in front of me in a space station and I had *just* enough to buy it with trade-in. The first freighter I was offered was an “S” class. And then not long after that I found a second exotic (a yellow and gold royal.) I even found a star system with three awesome planets (Bountiful, Tropical, Paradise.) For a while it was fun but got boring pretty quickly.

I kept that save but decided to start another one on permadeath with the difficulty ratcheted up a bit. MUCH harder and definitely frustrating, but a lot of fun! A lot more animals attack me on planet surfaces and pirates definitely seem more skilled in fights (a couple times I barely made it out alive after prolonged battle, when in my other save I’d dispatch them in less than a minute.)

I think I am just over 15 hours into it and still hanging in there. I have an “A” class fighter for a ship, and have not seen a single “S” class anything. I’ve only been offered one freighter so far and it was a “C.” I was in two other battles where I could have been offered a freighter but accidentally shot them while fighting the pirates and then had to deal with pirates AND sentinels with no reward for it. The struggle is real. Me in my other save: “Oh look, another exotic. I’ll add it to my collection.” Me now: “OMG is that sodium?! WOO HOO!”

Taking a break

I’m taking a small break (maybe a few months at most) to play some other games in my library starting with a plague’s tale. But I really wanna thank this community and the game itself for reminding me why I love games. I was never an avid gamer growing up, technically speaking this ps5 is the first real console I can call my own. So as you can imagine I never was one to spend hours on a game. I’d enjoy a few hours of a game but eventually I’d either lose interest or get distracted by other things. Speeding to only a few months ago I downloaded no man’s sky. It had been sitting in my library as one of the few games I binged bought and I wasn’t even aware of how the community was yet. I don’t even remember how many hours passed but it must’ve been almost half a day when I decided to rest. The next day and days after that ended up a routine of sorts. I got so caught up in the game that I realized I genuinely loved it. I learned of this reddit as well as the coordinate exchange one and since then I’ve been immersed in this welcoming community. I don’t think I’ll ever come across a community that makes me love a game as much as this one. But I definitely feel more open minded cause of y’all.
