Cool Alien Multitool

Cool Alien Multitool

While searching for interceptors, I came across a Space Station with an A-class cabinet. Figured I would do a reload on the corrupted planet, just to see … AND it gave me the coolest looking Alien Blaster I’ve ever found. Black crystals, grey body and red veins! 😎🙌Unfortunately don’t think there’s an S-class cabinet in the system but still … Glyphs in the screen shot, just reload on the corrupted planet! In Euclid.

A Recovering Addict's Travels through No Man's Sky (Part 2)

Hello! Wow, that post blew up! I had never imagined that my little journal about my space travels and how they were helping me in life would get so much attention. Writing has always been a challenge for me, despite my love of it, and I am glad that posting my writing here is something that y’all enjoy. To everybody that read or commented on Part 1, thank you so much. Your open ears and your kind words truly mean so much to me, and it has given me a lot of motivation to see this through! (Also, my first silver, ever! Wow – thank you so much!) There’s a lot more that I feel that I could say here, but in the interest of getting to the actual journal part of this post, I’ll just say that I am truly grateful for your support, and I’m incredibly glad that my stories have touched so many people’s lives. Seriously, this community rocks. If you are a new reader, you can find part one here.

Today, I went adventuring. After a brief nap in my ship, I left to investigate the hills around the crash site. After a few minutes of climbing around and taking in the scenery, a radioactive storm suddenly came up on the horizon. With my hazard protection quickly depleting, I looked around frantically for a means of protection, and my eyes quickly settled upon an opening in a nearby hill. As I walked inside, and my hazard protection began to stabilize, I saw a wide cave extending downward in front of me. I had watched a few guides during my break at work today, and quickly crafted an analysis visor. After some quick scanning, I realized that a lot of the rock formations in the cave were made of cobalt! (And other minerals). Knowing that they were valuable from watching a guide, I decided that tonight, I was going to strike it rich.

It was challenging, at first, to mine with such intensity. I knew around how much money I wanted to have from mining, but the tedium of the thing soon began to set in. As many of you know, I am playing this game as a way to help overcome my prior addictions, and once the game became all about mindlessly pointing the mining laser, my mind began to wander. I really did want to power through this feeling, both because I knew that getting a lot of money would really make the early game a lot more fun, and also to prove to myself that I could exercise a modicum of self-control. I turned on some Twitch in the background, and that helped a lot. I actually ended up getting distracted by the stream a bit, and lost track of time, so I ended up mining way past my goal. Whoops! I also found some things called “Vortex Cubes” – not sure what they do, but they look like one of them would make a pretty cool lamp.

After my spelunking had concluded, I decided that it was high time for me to repair my ship. I set out in the direction that the map beacon was indicating, and immediately got distracted by something else. I found a crashed pod on the side of a hill, then from there, I found a tower, waaaay off in the distance. My curiosity was peaked, so I headed out in the direction of the tower, to see what it had to offer. It ended up taking a bit longer to walk there than I had anticipated, but it was really cool to see it grow in the distance. I managed to scale it with the help of my trusty jetpack, and accessed some old logs at the terminal on the top. Unfortunately, it seems that my real-life foreign language skills translate into the game, and I was left staring at letters on the screen. I’ll have to make a note and come back to this later.

Finally, I jumped down and headed over to the beacon that I had found, scanning creatures and plants along the way, and reading facts about them in the pause menu. Apparently, the tentacled creature from yesterday actually doesn’t have any bones, which makes me wonder how it stands up, Truly, nature is beyond human comprehension. I soon arrived at the little settlement, consisting of two tiny houses, right next to each other. I accessed the terminal in one building to win some money via the stock transfer (is this legal?), and found a hermetic seal in the other one. After repairing my pulse engine, I decided to call it a night, as I have an early morning tomorrow. Thank you so much for reading and sticking around! Hopefully this is as enjoyable for you as it is for me – next time, we’re getting off planet, so help me god. I don’t know if I’ll have time to play tomorrow, since I’m gonna go visit some old friends, but we’ll see. Pics below.

Spelunking!

Like the companion cube, but slightly more….. trapezoidal.

Caught this dinosaur sleeping in the sand

Apparently, this is a rock? Wild

Waaaay off in the distance is a crashed pod, near the bottom of the valley

The tower, but from really far away

A half marathon, maybe more

This alien technology looks really cool, holy cow

I want one

Saw a freighter on the way back to my ship. I hear that you can fly one?

Novice tips to S Class multitool hunting

Novice tips to S Class multitool hunting

Hello, I’ve made a few post of the past weeks with 8-10 multitools (MTs) that I’ve found recently over the past year. I’ve been hunting tools since launch and thankfully ish that it has gotten a lot easier.

This seems like common since, but I had several questions arise, so I thought an update may be useful to some newbies.

Tools are pooled at the system/space station (SS) level and planetary levels. In general the SS level usually carries the dominate tool from each planet. You can see this by landing on each planet in the system and reloading your save. Then fly back to the SS and you’ll see a different tool, this tool will be the dominate tool for that planet in most cases.

  1. Decide on your hunting method
    1. duplicating inhabitable outpost (IOs) maps
      1. whatever method you use to dup
    2. trading navigation data (ND) for maps
      1. trade NDs for inhabited outpost (IOs) maps and maybe a few ancient artifact maps
      2. go to a couple wealthy systems and visit a planet
      3. use 6 or so maps to load up the HUD with the NPC buildings, there should be one minor settlement.
      4. check the minor settlement (MS) to see if it sells nd, if not use another map until the next minor settlement shows up, rinse and repeat. Once the NDs are found place a base computer down with a base name that makes sense to you. I use xxx NavData where xxx is the quantity sold at the minor settlement. repeat this in at least 1 other wealth system. This way you have access to a few hundred NDs.
      5. take any opportunity to gather more NDs, little cubes laying around space stations and minor settlements.
    3. designate a ship as your hunting ship with a good MT
      1. you will want, good shields, warp capable (long distances not required), decent weapons
      2. keep only the basic necessities in your ship, no materials that may attract the attention of system authorities / pirates. Otherwise they will pester/distract you from the goal
      3. take any opportunity to gather more nds, little cubes laying around space stations and minor settlements.
      4. good multitool is helpful for the planets with aggressive sentinels but when I’m hunting I avoid any entanglement the distracts me from the MT Hunt.
    4. MT Hunting (when starting out)
      1. Warp to a system go to SS and check MT class, if it’s not A class then move to next system. I only say this for newbies, you can hunt MTs in SSs with B & C’s but has the class goes down it can get more complex hunting for an S class on the planets.
      2. When the A class is found reload a save on each planet and check the SS for the dominate MT. Note: generally it will not show the 2ndary MT on the planet. The 2ndary MT is the MT that shows up in cabinet once you reload your save either at the planet you are on or other planet in the system or space station.
      3. If you have checked all the dominate tools for each planet and if non of them are what you are looking for then you can bail on that system. However, you may want to find the dominate tool on each planet even if it’s not the style you want to find. The 2ndary tools can be the alien, experimental and/or anomalous MTs. This all about your tolerance for the repetitiveness and time.

So I think that is probably a good start for those that are new to NMS. I’m sure many will chime in with additional tips/tricks to help out.

These are all the S classes I’ve found in the past year or so.

So I did a few experiments..

Experiment 1: I made a new save to do the latest expedition and I wanted to see if I could visit a base created with my previous save. I went to a system discovered by previous me where I had a base next to the portal. The base was not there. It appears that, even though your bases are always there even when you log off, if you switch to a different save they disappear. I did still have credit for discovering the system, though.
Experiment 2: You know how when you find a ship you like and you hang around until another of the same ship lands, it might be a little better or a little worse in terms of number of slots and/or core stats. I wanted to find out if I got the absolute best of a C class and upgraded it to an S, would it be the best possible S class of that ship. I found a solar I liked and found the best possible C class of that ship and flew it to the space station. After upgrading it S, it still a had good number of slots, but only middle-tier core stats. So, no, that didn’t work.

It was time to move on

It was time to move on

Most of my exploration has been around these clusters of systems because I was just having too much fun to go anywhere else.

I’ve been playing off and on for years. I loved the game when it first came out, and love it even more now. I loved it so much, I didn’t need a purpose, just that sandbox to play in.

Never done the Atlas Quest (started it, back in the early days, then abandoned it). Never been to the center of the galaxy. Traveled through one black hole, but so long ago that I don’t even remember when it was. More recently, made it through Artemis but not Patterns in Time before abandoning that, too. Because I didn’t want structure. I just wanted that sandbox.

I’ve spent hundreds of game hours exploring the same region of space–sometimes making jumps of a hundred light years or less. Just a small fraction of those planets are shown above.

In that time I’ve built bases, finally acquired a freighter, maxed out ships, freighter, frigates, maxed out units, obtained more nanites than I can possibly spend, played with just about every glitch and exploit I could find just for the heck of it, explored under water, experimented with exocraft, died dozens of times (blown myself up with stray clicks for over half of those), hopped through portals, hunted ships and multitools, raided derelicts, gotten a living ship, and pretty much explored every aspect of the game I could find. Almost all of it while criss-crossing this same region of space.

My bucket list is huuuuge, having grown and grown with each release. Most of it has been checked off. There are still a few items left on it, but for the first time since I started the game back in 2016? I finally am feeling the itch to go somewhere.

So I am heading in. I’m going to take my time, but I am Eissentam bound.

See you on the other side.

Is there any true multiplayer content?

I already have a bit more than eighty hours in, and love this game. However, every time I try to play with a friend we just chat and each do their own missions separately. I heard if you’re in the same session you and your friends can build bases together, haven’t tried but what are the limitations? Other than that, I thought about inviting them to do some nexus missions, but are they truly engaging multiplayer? I have already done a few missions by myself and they just seem to be the kind that you can divide in subtasks each one will accomplish separately. What is the best this game has to offer when it comes to multiplayer? I miss the excitement, the thrill of actually depending on each other and planning and acting together. Come to think of it, I think this game lacks a bit of action (there were some interesting fights with the sentinels there though). Maybe we should have more multiplayer PVE content in nms
