:/ just died in permadeath after 6 hours

So after surviving the start planet I thought I had permadeath in the bag. First planet was a nightmare survived by the skin of my exosuit.

Been hopping through the galaxy hitting up the nexus and teleporting to random bases to see if they can knock some time off the trip. This is when I hop to a base on a floating island, unbeknownst to me. I look out the base window and see a npc building so I go to check it out. It looks like the base is on a cliff side so I jump off and land without trouble and check out the building below. Coming out of the building I notice the base is on a floating island and not a cliff. Ship had no fuel so couldn't summon it. Having about 1.5 seconds of jetpack boost I try to boost to the vertical face so I can coast up. It worked all the way to the top and cut out before I could get footing plunging me to my bitter end.

Having full health and shield did not stop me from dying a humiliating death in a tropical paradise.

I couldn't believe after surviving those first toughest minutes of the game that I was taken out by falling off a floating island. RIP brave traveler, may your skeletal remains haunt that base for all of eternity.

Oops

Totally forgot that going through the galactic core would tear my tech up so now instead of basking in the glorious light of a newfound galaxy I get to hard-core grind it out to fix everything submitted by /u/SwampDwellerJokes [link] &…

Build your own Space Station

Now that we have brand new space stations, I’ve been thinking about what’s next. Here is my idea for a new secondary mission. Let me know what you think about it, and what you would change!

Requirements

The mission would only trigger:

  • If you’ve completed the “Expanding the Base” missions: you must have unlocked all base-related NPCs (overseer, scientist, armourer, farmer, technician).
  • If you’ve unlocked all the base mining blueprints: mineral extractors, supply depots, pipes, and the survey device scanner upgrade.
  • You must have built at least one mineral extractor.

Mission

  • You would start the mission by talking to the overseer at your base. They would suggest that you visit an uncharted system, create a base there, and build a “Station outpost terminal” (they’d give you a blueprint for that).
  • Just like when Polo suggests you some systems with black holes, you’d then see a few highlighted systems when looking at the galaxy map.
  • Visit one of the systems.
  • Build a base on one of the planets, and add the Station outpost terminal.
  • You’re then prompted to return to the overseer.
  • They suggest that you hire a “Space station chief”.
  • The NPC would use the species where you have the most standing.
  • You would follow the prompt and go talk to an NPC, that would then appear at your station outpost terminal.
  • You’d go talk to them, and they would suggest you create 5 bases in the system, all with a working teleporter, landing pad, and at least one mineral extractor and one supply depot.
  • Once you complete that, you go back to the space station chief, who advises you that construction of your own space station has started.
  • You then have a timer until the station is ready. That timer duration varies depending on the quality of the deposits you picked, and the quantity of supply depots you have.
  • While the timer runs, you see the skeleton of a space station in space, but where you cannot land.
  • Once the timer has run out, a new space station is available.

Your own space station

You can land there. Its dominant colors match the different mineral deposits you picked for your bases. Its dominant faction matches the species of the chief. It’s decorated with elements from your character’s flag. The top floor of the space stations includes doors to your own station base.

At that point, the main mission is complete, and you split into a secondary mission by speaking with the station chief. You are now tasked with building trading outposts on the planets by providing materials, a bit like the settlements work today.

In parallel, you can also extend your station base by purchasing blueprints for different space station elements that can be placed in your station rooms.

You also start getting daily unit and nanite income: this is your come from the profits made by the different vendors and the terminal at the station. The more materials you pull from your deposits on the different bases, the more profit you make.

What do you think of the idea? What would you change?
