Planetary mechanics without true planetary rotation… it’s possible!
We all know the story; allegedly, planetary rotation was in the game prior to its release but was removed. Since then, this has become one of the core missing pillars that fans have been asking for. I think HG could implement a lot of “planetary physics” without having to implement true rotation of planetary bodies, making it simpler to implement and avoiding the alleged confusion by players. It would also appease most fans I think.
We already have star classes affecting planet types. All planets in a system could be designated a “sun distance”, which would affect things like resources, fauna, flora, weather, etc. It doesn’t have to be a real distance, just denoted in the discover page.
Additionally, now that we can increase our pulse drive speeds with upgrades, they could take this a couple of steps further. Increase the physical distance between planets to better simulate sun proximities, add more ways to upgrade pulse speeds to make planetary travel a non-concern, etc.
Thoughts?
