All discovery names on Expedition progression systems should be locked.

Not sure why this isn’t already a thing. Systems and planets are already like this, so it’s clear that Hello Games has the ability to do this. These are already done this way to (probably) stop people from naming these larger systems into something offensive.

But based on the past few expeditions, it’s become increasingly clear that people won’t use this system to make fun or funny names for things and instead will choose to name commonly found resources or creatures into things that are political or offensive.

I don’t think specific words need to be locked or anything. If I found one of these discoveries in the normal mode then I can just move on. But, expeditions (especially the last one) force you to interact and see the discoveries of other players for much longer periods of time compared to other parts of the game.

Having all discoveries on necessary progression systems (starting places, rendezvous points, etc) be pre-discovered by Hello Games eliminates any need for them to ban any names and still lets people name random systems whatever they want. I’d imagine this would also drastically cut down on reports sent to HG. For the most part everyone wins by doing this. People can still name random systems whatever they want, HG doesn’t have to deal with a bunch of reports, and people can play their space game without political and offensive names being shoved down their throat.

*Cool tip about upgrading your starship slots

Dont buy slots! they will cost you hundreds of millions! Instead scrap exotic ships and it will give you 1-3 Starship Storage Augumentations.

Best way to farm exotics is to find a Trading Outpost on a paradise/low-storm planet in a tier 3 economy system. Storms are a bother if you have to stand outside and oversee all 7 ship landing pads.

Then just wait for any exotic to spawn and instantly buy it. they cost from 2M to 20M.

After buying it fly/teleport to the space station and scrap it. you’ll get the Storage upgrades along with random upgrade modules and valuable scrap. This is A LOT cheaper than directly buying slots but takes some time.

You can also try to do it in a space station but as soon as you scrap one ship then your default ship will occupy a pad and lower your chances of getting a exotic.

Mad I waited so long to try this game

The title explains it. I’ve owned the game since 2020 and tried it a bit here and there but it never really clicked.

Fast forward to today and with the Orbital update I decided to give it one last go. Wow, I am loving it. 25 hours in the past week and I keep discovering new game systems and stuff to unlock or do. Even found my first Grave of the Ocean King (scared the crap out of me).

Trying to avoid guide videos because I feel like some folks get really focused on optimization, but if you have suggestions for things I should try or people to watch, I’m all ears.

tl;dr I bought NMS 4 years ago but never gave it a chance until now. Mad I missed out!
