NMS HOT POST 2021/06/5

Playing for the first time since 2016

I got this game at the midnight release the day that it launched in the summer of 2016, and like just about everybody that played it at launch was massively disappointed and returned the game about a month later.

Recently I was scrolling through the Game Pass with my girlfriend and saw No Mans Sky and told her the story of the launch (we had just both played Cyberpunk, so it was poignant at the time lol) but I had heard that the game had been improved massively and there were people citing Hello Games as the kind of outline for what to do when massive hype turns into a massive letdown – looking at you CDPR. We both installed it and since we’re both space nerds the first couple hours of playing was cool, but I was still uncertain.

I can now say with no hesitation that No Mans Sky is my favorite game of the past ten years. I’ve dropped so many hours into it and I still feel like I’m discovering something new every time I log on. I’ve convinced like five of my friends to download it and now every time I log on my entire friends list is almost exclusively playing NMS. Also this sub is one of the better video game communities I’ve ever come across.

I don’t really know what the point of this post was, other than to say thank you Hello Games and I’ll see the rest of you amidst the stars.

Stuck on radiated water planet.

I’m stuck on a very small island without rocks or dihydrogen around me. I cannot build a portable refiner, can’t make starship launch fuel (that’s why I’m stuck), and there isn’t a nearby island within miles. There are zero rocks underwater, radiation is a big problem, no matter what I do, I cannot find anything for me to get off. And despite uranium supposedly being a huge resource here, there is none in the vicinity.
