Beginner’s Guide
Hey y’all, a friendly Traveler here
As we all know, No Man’s Sky is irredeemably unforgiving to new players. It’s very hard to get your, well, space legs as literally nothing explains itself in the game. Hence why I’m writing this.
Here are a few little tips I’ve conjured on my journey across the worlds.
1) When you start out, follow the main quest line until you unlock the four base terminals. I know it’s hard to get sidetracked, as I spent my first 30 hours ignoring the main quest line, but if you follow it out you can save a lot of necessary salvaged data by getting the blueprints from the base overseers rather than purchasing them in the Anomaly like I had. This goes for farming materials, exocraft, storage containers, etc.
2) When you get the chance to adopt a free freighter (around the 5th or so warp), don’t be picky. I recommend taking the first one you get, unless you’re a seasoned professional who’s set up a main base elsewhere. In my experience, the best thing to do is just snatch the first freighter you come across and start developing your freighter base. There is essentially limitless room for expansion, and having this as a resource is absolutely huge when you’re first getting started because you can create a completely portable refiner base, grow room, storage facility, etc.
3) GET EVERY LAST BIT OF OXYGEN YOU CAN. I can’t even begin to stress this enough. Oxygen is integral to making money, as you can duplicate Ionized Cobalt and Chlorine in Medium or Large refiners. The hardest part about acquiring these resources necessary to crash the economy (I.e, sell 8+ stacks of chlorine or cobalt, which will cause the demand to plummet and you can purchase it all back for cheap and carry on your streak of economic terrorism) is getting the necessary oxygen to do it, so be prepared and begin stocking up from the second you awaken next to your Radiant Pillar.
4) Keep an eye out for “Ancient bone structures” or “Salvageable Scrap” when you’re scanning planets. If you see a planet that has this, preferably the scrap, go over there and run around looking for it. I stand by my opinion that it is the easiest method to make at least a little bit of money, because some scrap containers offer items worth up to 1 million units each. It is a gamble, as RNG determines what you’ll get, but you don’t lose anything by hunting for it.
5) Once you develop some money, hang around trading outposts and space stations. Keep an eye out for A class or better ships to scrap. They provide spaceship upgrade modules which can be sold for a boatload of nanites, but also can give storage augmentation modules which increase your ships inventory. It’s quite obvious why this is beneficial.
6) Di-Hydrogen will be a vastly required resource once you acquire a freighter, so here’s an easy way to get an endless supply of it. Go on a farm run, and get, I’d say, at least 1-2k Di-Hydrogen. Then, craft as many Di-Hy jellies as you can. They craft at 40 Di-Hy per jelly, but you can refine one jelly into 50 Di-Hydrogen. The jellies stack in 10’s, so if you refine one full stack of Di-Hy jelly, you’ll be making 500 which offers a profit of 100. The longer you do this, the more insane your yields become, and if you’re dedicated you can easily turn 1 or 2k into 1 or 2 full stacks.
Leave other tips down below, and let’s all help welcome in a new world of Travelers.
