NMS HOT POST

I did it - I made the idiotic, foolish rookie mistake of losing a ship...

Sigh…imbecile.

I made a joke about collecting an S class shuttle the other day because they are all ugly and no one likes them and everyone is chasing Sentinel ships or classic exotics.

So I was on a Station and an S class shuttle landed. I scanned it and went to talk to the pilot…I have enough to buy it outright…should I? Ah screw it, might as well…

Went about my business, found a dumpy little C class fighter to claim and salvage and went about doing that and default called in my exotic, so I flew it home

So shuffling around a bit, get back to base, call my exotic home, go to call my A-class Hauler home and….not enough launch fuel. WTF. How do I do something so basic and dumb?

Went to a new system to try and spawn the freighter script and nothing. Not too broken up over losing an A class hauler but…it had ALL my crafting mats on it.

I really wish you could beacon your ships and go physically find them. I’m pretty sure what planet I left it on…I think…well, one of two or 3….OOF.

Sucks that I had also just spent half my cash on a joke, the S class shuttle. I guess that’s my new loot mule for now…until I acquire a freighter and call the other one home. I’m mad at myself. I used to be pretty good at this game and my old save has a dozen systems fully mapped, multiple bases, full fleet of S class ships and a well built freighter with frigates and the whole shebang.

I’m determined to do it all again, slow and easy so I don’t get overwhelmed and burned out. I could load it up and pick up where I left off 3+ years ago but meh, I was really having a good time.

Oh…I also, in the last week, got lost in a cave with a new multitool without the terrain digger installed. That was about 45 min of hellish frustration…..

Voyagers is kind of disappointing.

It progresses so slow – I feel like I’m at the beginning of the game all over again.

Normally, I like the Expeditions where we travel around a lot, but this isn’t fun. I’m still on Phase 2. I have found a 20 pav predator, but I found a 19 pav one (seriously?) and many of the milestones seem to be much of the same thing. I know this was a way to introduce people to wonders.

I tried to instead go out of sequence and finish milestones as I go along. On my way to Rendezvous 3, my ship got stuck in the loading screen when warping to a new system. I turned it off and decided to revisit my main save and I’m glad.

It sucks because the last Expeditions in this Redux period were really enjoyable – I was looking forward to rounding off the year with this one. But, the rewards don’t seem worth the work and overall this Expedition feels grindy. I can’t imagine how the full Expedition played out.

Refusing Atlas does NOT block Autophage content

A week or two back, I read a comment where someone said that if you finish The Purge by refusing Atlas, you can’t unlock the They Who Returned quest (Autophage content). I’ve never heard anyone else say anything about it one way or the other.

Yesterday, I made a test game and confirmed that They Who Returned works just fine after refusing Atlas. Obviously, this is just one data point, and I can’t guarantee that it applies in every single case.

For the record, here’s what I did:

  • Started a new game in Creative mode, Switch NMS version 4.4.7 (equivalent to 4.47).
  • Chased the Artemis path until after having made the big Artemis decision.
  • Did the A Trace of Metal quest. On Switch, this is triggered by warping 25 times, so no settlement is necessary.
  • Jumped to a dissonant system, obtained an Echo Locator, and lifted the lockdown on the harmonic camp.
  • Returned to the Artemis path and completed it by refusing the Atlas.
  • Took off in my ship and warped to a nearby Vy’keen yellow star system.
  • A few seconds after arrival in that system, the hijack warnings began.

If anyone cares, that whole process took just under five hours of game time, according to the save file. Wall-clock time, however, might have been twice that.

What to do in 2024?

Hello there. I have played the game since launch and I have a save file with 95 hours played where I did all the research, maxed out my suit, collected and upgraded ships and built the allmighty activated indium farm which made me enough money for life.

That was 3 years ago. What would you recommmend that I do in the game now? I booted it up again and I love the gameplay, I just don’t know what to do. Starting over seems annoying as I’d have to redo all the busy work. The same experience I already had.

I guess I'm a ship hunter now.

As stated in a post earlier this week, I play NMS cyclically. A year on, 6 months to a year off…

I just hopper back in and I LOVE some of the changes and updates since I last played.

Particularly, I love that I can have sentinel ships to match my sentinel freighter. I find the Interceptor class ship so awesome that, after I found one I loved enough to make my main ship, I still just enjoy finding them to see the cool combos out there.

So, I suppose my new main activiy is finding interceptor ships and posting them on NMSGE.

Does anyone have tips for finding these faster?

I’ve been warping to dissonant systems, using the polyphonic core, and hoping to find Autophage camps with locators. However, tonight I’ve been to a dozen Autophage signals and they’re all exosuit pods or regional waypoints.

Is it just luck of the draw, or is there a way to find camps with ship locators specifically?
