The Intergalactic Explorers - Exocraft Roaming

Last night, the IGE crew gathered for some planetside exploring. We met at the space station to ensure we got all the required upgrades we’d need for the task at hand. Our destination was an uncharted charred planet, the landscape dominated by mountains. Grip and power was required. We gathered to compare notes, swap resources, and ensure we were ready.

We gathered at the designated outpost and got to wrenching. S class engine upgrades, better tires, and some boosters went in, making sure our rigs could climb the vertical expanses surrounding us.

We set out into the unknown. No destination in mind, purely a direction. NORTH was the choice. Compton took the lead, as our most experienced Roamer driver. Pawz and Alex followed, followed by me (Raz), and Kilroy and Enoch a few hundred units back, per usual. We motored along, climbing up the tallest mountains, and yeeting ourselves off enormous cliffs, challenging each other to see who could have the most spectacular wipeouts. Pawz was the clear winner, as while cresting a particularly large hill, he was assaulted by a passing space craft, sending him skyrocketing over the next valley, over the next mountain, and landing somewhere in the next time zone. It was evening before we found where he landed, and celebrated with some IGE Nebula Buds and fireworks.

The next morning, we got ready to go, but sadly, our departure was delayed, as Enoch needed to handle some “business.”

Day two was equally exciting, and by midday, we had found the highest peak around, and after conquering it, took a moment to take in the views. A few days of roaming on the planet’s surface does wonders for your mood, as you realize that the terrain is so varied, the hills all unique, and the opportunities for fun (such as burying Enoch’s Roamer in the dirt while he’s off chasing something shiny) are what exploring is all about.

PSA: Don't choose to transfer your base when claiming a pirate freighter (at least on Switch)

I play on Switch and this might be a Switch-specific bug, but wanted to post a warning to others just in case: I spent 20+ hours over a couple of weeks save-scumming for an S class pirate freighter. After dozens of space battles and a disheartening number of C classes, I finally found an S class. I went up to the captain to claim the ship, elected to transfer the base from my current freighter to my sweet new S class pirate freighter…and the game crashed. Restore point and autosave were from prior to defeating the freighter and it had changed to a C class when I reloaded and tried again.

It was pretty damn devastating…

So I dismantled my current freighter base and as a test I tried claiming the next pirate freighter I encountered (C class…of course), and sure enough I had no problem when I chose to claim the freighter and said “no” to transferring my existing base.

Like I said, maybe it’s only a Switch problem but pretty horrible if you encounter it. Especially since my base isn’t all that special so if I knew the bug existed, I gladly would’ve ditched my existing base.

Importantly in my test I accidentally left a couple materials from dismantling my freighter base in the core freighter storage, so I got an additional warning about the freighter inventory before the base transfer question. So out of paranoia I’m leaving 1 carbon in my freighter inventory so the next time I find an S class, I’ll be replicating the exact scenario where it didn’t crash. But my guess is the inventory warning doesn’t matter.

FWIW I have reported the bug on ZenDesk, not the most critical bug but pretty frustrating for people in my situation.

Hovering Ship

So, me and a friend have recently returned to the game and we’ve seen a type of ship in the Space Anomoly that has no landing gear, and just hovers in place instead. I’ve tried to research it, but I haven’t found any concrete evidence of it’s existence.

Was this ship exclusive to pre-orders/expeditions? And if not, how (if still possible) can it be obtained?

Living freighters

So is anyone else noticing that it is taking FOREVER to get a living freighter? I was pulsing for probably 5 minutes when one finally showed up and now I am trying for another one (not in same system) and going on prob 5 minutes of pulsing. I checked t…

Base building mechanics

I wish I could say I’m a good builder, but the reality is that I have no talent whatsoever. Just trying my best. I watched tutorials online and I gathered the basics, but I have a few questions on the matter:

  • I know that manipulating the terrain by digging is counter-productive bc it grows back. Does this apply to the terrain flattener too? If so, what’s the point of having a tool so obviously designed to make flat space for your base?

  • Sometimes when I put down a prefab, it autonomously delete portions of terrain that would clip into it. In this case, does it grow back regardless?

  • What about natural resources (rocks and plants)? Do they grow back? I ask because every tutorial says if you want to build a base in a cave you better find a natural cave… But natural caves are filled with stalagmites and cave pumpkins. I don’t know if I can safely build over those.

  • Let’s say I want to connect two parts of my base, but in the middle there’s a mountain. I carve a large hole in the mountain and place a prefab corridor or passage tube to connect the two parts. After a while, the terrain I carved comes back. Does it clip inside the corridor I placed preventing me to traverse it or does it just “surround” my pieces leaving the space inside empty?

  • Last… Is there an effective way/trick to snap different base styles pieces together? I’m building with prefab and cubic rooms, but I can’t for the life of me make a pathway OUTSIDE to connect different buildings, bacause not a single floor present in the game snaps with the prefab (again, I’m talking about the exterior)

Thanks!
