Notes before you end the Omega expedition and return to your main save

Here’s my notes on this. I saw different posts covering parts of this, but I want to try and capture them all here for some traveler out there.

Before you End the Expedition:

  • Note that you’ve accumulated a lot of quicksilver currency. You can use this at the vendor near the floating mission computer to unlock cool stuff. Quicksilver is the hardest currency to find, so you don’t want to waste it. Any items you unlock with Quicksilver, can be reclaimed at the same vendor freely on any other save file.
  • Note that each tier of the Omega expedition has an optional achievement for scanning aliens, minerals, and plants on each Rendezvous planet. If you missed these and want to finish them and you can’t remember where those planets are, don’t worry, all you need to do is visit the portal in a space station and view the previous space stations you’ve visited. You’ll notice that some of these will have extra text on them like (Rendezvous #1). That will take you to the star where the Rendezvous planet is. Look for a lot of bases which are the purple icons you see on the planet surface from space. That should get you on the right planet.

And now assuming you really are ready to finish:

  • Did you transfer important tech upgrades from your suit/multitool/ship?
    • Then make sure you transfer it back. Your main save does not have them now. You need to send them back!
  • Transfer any other items back that you want to keep. If you’re new to New Man’s Sky, I’d suggest keeping rare eggs you received, Good S-Class upgrades you need, and especially any upgrade modules for your freighter (like +1 inventory to freighter, because freighter stuff is hard to find.
  • When you arrive back in your main save, anything you stored back in the Expedition terminal on the Anomaly will be waiting for you, kind of like a locker.

Are we supposed to attack each other at the start of Expedition 2?

So I start Expedition 2 and spawn as a handsome blue and yellow Vy’keen, out in the middle of nowhere on Tibertant Alpha. All is right with the world- I do some gathering and crafting, then stumble upon a crashed freighter and start ripping open cargo pods for the sweet loot inside.

Four cargo pods later, another player shows up and almost immediately starts shooting at me, knocking me down to 2/3rds health before I could get away- and once I did, they kept following me, shooting at me when I’d use my jetpack too much.

I got a good head start though, running straight up some cliff walls and even stopping to gather from a patch of Indium before reaching my ship, a delightful blue and yellow hauler. I almost completely fix it up- but I’m short some dihydrogen, so I get out and mine a nearby patch, only to get spotted by 3 angry sentinels. Just then, my assailant shows up having followed me over 1,600u, so I hop in my ship, toss in the dihydrogen, and take off.

Looping back around, I spot three angry sentinels firing out laser blasts at my former assailant, so I figured I’d get some revenge with my Photon Cannons, chasing them across a valley before it was reported in text on the screen that they had died in combat from ship fire.

I flew into space immediately, naming my ship “The Immediate Vengeance” and feeling like one very triumphant Vy’keen.

Am I playing this right?

New Ship Perk Suggestions

Long ago, NMS only allowed players to own a single ship, making it a major decision on which ship type a traveler should go after. However, realizing this felt clunky, updates have been made over the years, ship slots increased, new tech modules, and new features added. This was a great call, but it did leave one mark: the distinctions between each ship didn’t matter anymore; Haulers don’t even have the benefit of additional cargo space, since all S-class ships can have the same total number of slots.

I was talking ship perks with someone, and it got me thinking that perhaps it would make sense to introduce new strengths to less used ship types. As I was mulling it over, I realized that some of these changes would have to be pretty potent to stand up to current-day standards — poor Shuttles, their only real signature is that their takeoff price is reduced, made obsolete by the auto-recharge modules. So I decided to spitball a few ideas trying to stay true to the ship’s purpose while taking 2024 NMS in mind, and see if the following suggestions are strong enough to make you think “oh yeah, I’d definitely want to own a [ship type].”

Shuttles:

  1. 25% faster flight speed than others while in-atmosphere.
  2. 100% faster Pulse Drive speed.
  3. Takeoffs and landings are quicker and snappier.

Haulers:

  1. Cargo slots are double-sized, just like Freighters and storage containers.
  2. One storage augmentation slot unlocks two slots when used to unlock cargo slots.
  3. When the Teleport Receiver is installed, Hauler item teleport range is unlimited within the same star system.

Living:

  1. Increased chance of finding Space Encounters while pulsing. Alien Traders completely removed from encounter pool (Frequency 12 > 0). Odds of Rogue Black Hole and Relic Gate events tripled (Frequency 1 > 3).
  2. Eating food while in a ship refuels the ship’s hyper drive, pulse drive, launch thrusters, and damaged shields.

Explorer:

  1. Scanning one planet scans every planet in the system.
  2. Hyperdrive chain jumps. When setting a waypoint on the galactic map, can directly jump to that waypoint as long as the Explorer would have enough fuel to reach there, or up to 5 jumps (aka 5x listed hyperdrive range).

Let me know if these are along the right lines, and whether you’d fly one of these if they had these perks.

Just a Quick Appreciation

While I struggle with anxiety so it is difficult for me to egg myself into the multiplayer scene in the game, I just have to applaud ALL of you guys. This is the most non-toxic gaming community I think I’ve ever seen and I have been a gamer for a goood…

Too Many Low Difficulty Frigate Expeditions

I re-boarded my freighter after a lengthy reconnaissance mission and wanted to send my frigates out.

So, I visit The Navigator, and he gives me the list of expeditions (not Expeditions) and it’s all low star trips, three 2** and two 1*.

Would love to see more 3‘s, as well as any 4* and 5*****, which I’ve never seen. What’s up with that?

That’s all.

Gray, over and out.
