Looking to get back into NMS after 6 years.

I was one of “those fools” who pre ordered the game, paid for the special ship and all of the bonuses and ranted and raved about how good the game was going to be. I even played for a good year or so, looking to defend it. But, I got tired, and kind of just stopped playing, but I actively never uninstalled it. It’s been passively updating on my PC for 6 years (still have the original save) and I think it’s time.

I’ve heard that this game is leaps and bounds better, with a metric ton of more content (grammar?) Than before, and I’m ready to jump back in.

However, if that much content has been added, am I going to be overwhelmed? Is there a right way to continue my journey? Should I just start over? What are some peak gameplay moments that I should strive for? And….can I actually meet other people? Or is that still not a thing?

Thanks for any and all tips and tricks!

This game's community is surprisingly very wholesome (from a new player)

I usually play more single player games so when I saw starfield is coming out in 3 months I got in a space game mood and decided to try out no man’s sky and the reason I said surprisingly wholesome is because usually the people who play survival games aren’t the friendliest bunch you know what I mean games like dayz or rust you try to meet up with people and they either kill you and shout slurs or grief you or back stab you along the way so anyway while doing the tutorial quests I got into the anomaly for the first time and checked out the place for a bit and this random dude invited me into his group I joined them I told them I was new and they immediately helped me out we did a bunch of stuff together one of them gave me a bunch of shit to sell which I used to buy a new ship and he even showed me how to build a base and even when I asked how to get more blueprints they helped and showed me how to find those buried tech for the salvaged data but anyways my point is props to the NMS community for being so helpful to new players can’t wait to grind further 🔥🔥🔥

Are Nexus missions the only co-op activity that actually works?

My friend and I have been trying to play together, but it’s getting frustrating.

We tried fighting Sentinels on a Dissonant planet, but the waves never stopped after reaching Rank 5. I would be fighting a large walker and he sees me shooting at the ground towards nothing. We decided to run away to space to trigger a Capital ship, but one spawned for each of us that the other could not see.

I know multiplayer is buggy, but is there anything we can actually do together? Or are we all just cheerleaders in each others universe?

Small UI Things That Annoy A Little (... and are easily fixed tbh)

I love No Man’s Sky, been so addicted to it – buuut there are certain small UI things where the game is clearly trying tooo… “be fancy”, let’s call it, but actually just makes simple things feel a bit more cumbersome than they in reality are.

Like when you enter a system and get those black bars that you have to manually make go away faster… which is pretty silly when you drop right into a space battle, Dreadnought battle, what have you – dude, it’s a space battle, stop that please.

Or when you have a waypoint on the galaxy map (maybe previously marked in your Discoveries tab because you’re trying to get an S-Class Capital Ship from a specific system… or so) that your ship can get to in a single jump… buuut the game UI still makes the navigation take you across a web of in between systems for no reason.

Or in general that the galaxy map UI is totally and entirely unresponsive until the game is done doing its dramatic whoosh and zoom camera motion – again, for no real reason.

Or how you can use a Chart in space or on a Station and it’ll immediately show you what you found… buuut down on a planet surface you have to wait for the radary scanny wave to travel dramatically before it actually tells you what it is you found, let alone where.

If me being wordy here gives off the impression I’m upset – I am not! Just being descriptive! As I said, these are little things – and I’m just suggesting… eyyy, Hello Games, I know you want stuff to “feel fancy”, but c’mooon – not when it’s impractical, eh? : P
