Expedition 11: Voyagers - Tips and tricks

In this article, I would like to share some helpful tips for Expedition 11. Let’s start with some general tips first.

  • Expeditions require warping to a rendezvous point and require frequent use of the hyperdrive, so purchasing the hyperdrive upgrade at the space station can be of great help. In particular, from class A and above, it is even better because not only the distance but also the warp cell efficiency increases.
  • If you have units, buy a bunch of resources from the space station’s trading terminal. Examples include ferrite dust, pyrite (pulse drive fuel; more efficient than tritium), and uranium (used as ship fuel).
  • Take a close look at the missions. There are cases where certain rewards are required to progress, or where it greatly helps progress. In this expedition, collecting storm crystals will give you exotic projector blueprints, and building an exotic projector will unlock the essential hyperdrive upgrade. This is required to access the red and blue star systems.

Now, here are some tips I learned while playing.

  • Among the plants on the starting planet, there are plants that give about 100 carbon. Collect a lot. It is widely used for fuel charging or antimatter crafting.
  • When you go to the space station, learn the words Gek, Vy-keen, and Korvax. The starting star system is the Gek star system, and if you learn the word, you will be rewarded with 320,000 units. You can use it to purchase microprocessors and other essential resources. Vy-keen gives you the emeril needed to craft the indium drive.
  • Scan animals and plants often. You need it to achieve your goal. Also, you need to scan 10 aquatic animals, so be sure to scan them if you go to a planet with water.
  • On Rendezvous 1 planet, you can achieve altitudes higher than 625u and temperatures below -80 degrees (at night) missions.
  • Frost crystal is the fastest way to achieve 18 crops harvesting mission. It also counts if you gather from someone else’s base.
  • Collect navigation data. It can be exchanged for a map of an alien facility at the cartographer in space station. You can find portals in alien monoliths (with correct answer. So I recommend saving before interact), and you can find the locations of underground artifacts in ancient ruins (select the second option, which searches for ancient knowledge).
  • Looking for underwater artifacts? Complete the mission to unlock the nautilon blueprint. Then, if you install a high-power sonar and use it, the location will be revealed. (By the way, in my case, it didn’t give me the blueprint of the fuel cell that charges the nautilon. I don’t know if it was a bug or the developer just simply forgot to give fuel blueprint. So I swimmed to the destination.)
  • Each time you arrive at the rendezvous point, it gives you 1200 nanites, 3 inventory expansions, a multitool and a ship expansion module. It will be a great help in accomplishing the mission of collecting 7700 nanites.
  • How to progress? I would go to Rendezvous 3 and then find a portal (In my memory, Rendezvous 3 would be the portal). Set up a base there, then proceed to Rendezvous 5 and then go through the black hole. After that, you can teleport to the base and use the portal.
  • You’ve built a base, but is it a hassle to come back every time? Use a teleporter in Space Anomaly! When you’re done, you can return to Space Anomaly right from the quick menu, returning to the system you came from.
  • Finding animals or planets with specific conditions can be difficult to do on your own because it requires luck. The quickest and easiest way is to find the portal address through No Man’s Sky community. Small UI Things That Annoy A Little (... and are easily fixed tbh)

I love No Man’s Sky, been so addicted to it – buuut there are certain small UI things where the game is clearly trying tooo… “be fancy”, let’s call it, but actually just makes simple things feel a bit more cumbersome than they in reality are.

Like when you enter a system and get those black bars that you have to manually make go away faster… which is pretty silly when you drop right into a space battle, Dreadnought battle, what have you – dude, it’s a space battle, stop that please.

Or when you have a waypoint on the galaxy map (maybe previously marked in your Discoveries tab because you’re trying to get an S-Class Capital Ship from a specific system… or so) that your ship can get to in a single jump… buuut the game UI still makes the navigation take you across a web of in between systems for no reason.

Or in general that the galaxy map UI is totally and entirely unresponsive until the game is done doing its dramatic whoosh and zoom camera motion – again, for no real reason.

Or how you can use a Chart in space or on a Station and it’ll immediately show you what you found… buuut down on a planet surface you have to wait for the radary scanny wave to travel dramatically before it actually tells you what it is you found, let alone where.

If me being wordy here gives off the impression I’m upset – I am not! Just being descriptive! As I said, these are little things – and I’m just suggesting… eyyy, Hello Games, I know you want stuff to “feel fancy”, but c’mooon – not when it’s impractical, eh? : P

New Ship Perk Suggestions

Long ago, NMS only allowed players to own a single ship, making it a major decision on which ship type a traveler should go after. However, realizing this felt clunky, updates have been made over the years, ship slots increased, new tech modules, and new features added. This was a great call, but it did leave one mark: the distinctions between each ship didn’t matter anymore; Haulers don’t even have the benefit of additional cargo space, since all S-class ships can have the same total number of slots.

I was talking ship perks with someone, and it got me thinking that perhaps it would make sense to introduce new strengths to less used ship types. As I was mulling it over, I realized that some of these changes would have to be pretty potent to stand up to current-day standards — poor Shuttles, their only real signature is that their takeoff price is reduced, made obsolete by the auto-recharge modules. So I decided to spitball a few ideas trying to stay true to the ship’s purpose while taking 2024 NMS in mind, and see if the following suggestions are strong enough to make you think “oh yeah, I’d definitely want to own a [ship type].”

Shuttles:

  1. 25% faster flight speed than others while in-atmosphere.
  2. 100% faster Pulse Drive speed.
  3. Takeoffs and landings are quicker and snappier.

Haulers:

  1. Cargo slots are double-sized, just like Freighters and storage containers.
  2. One storage augmentation slot unlocks two slots when used to unlock cargo slots.
  3. When the Teleport Receiver is installed, Hauler item teleport range is unlimited within the same star system.

Living:

  1. Increased chance of finding Space Encounters while pulsing. Alien Traders completely removed from encounter pool (Frequency 12 > 0). Odds of Rogue Black Hole and Relic Gate events tripled (Frequency 1 > 3).
  2. Eating food while in a ship refuels the ship’s hyper drive, pulse drive, launch thrusters, and damaged shields.

Explorer:

  1. Scanning one planet scans every planet in the system.
  2. Hyperdrive chain jumps. When setting a waypoint on the galactic map, can directly jump to that waypoint as long as the Explorer would have enough fuel to reach there, or up to 5 jumps (aka 5x listed hyperdrive range).

Let me know if these are along the right lines, and whether you’d fly one of these if they had these perks.

Too Many Low Difficulty Frigate Expeditions

I re-boarded my freighter after a lengthy reconnaissance mission and wanted to send my frigates out.

So, I visit The Navigator, and he gives me the list of expeditions (not Expeditions) and it’s all low star trips, three 2** and two 1*.

Would love to see more 3‘s, as well as any 4* and 5*****, which I’ve never seen. What’s up with that?
