NMS HOT POST 2022/06/2

The expedition end had me gripping my controller

Spoilers ahead please be aware.

So I started this expedition a few days ago, it is also my first one. Once I got the hang of it I enjoyed the challenges of "permadeath"

Tonight I stayed up till 2:30 am est (at the time I'm writing this) much MUCH later than I should, I usually go to bed at 10pm est. I stayed awake wanting to finish this expedition since my time to play over the coming weeks will be bar none.

Don't read further if you don't want spoilers please.

So as I summon the leviathan in space and initiate the conversation, it eventually says it will close the loop, screen goes black and the quotes appear. Man the wave of emotions that washed over me thinking I made a mistake and at the very end I had to restart.. I was angry sad miserable dismayed and heart broken all at once, I'm pretty sure I heard the controller cracking as I squeezed it. But to my joy and surprise as the screen lit up on another world and the notification appeared on my screen my emotions took a roller coaster spiral to happiness relief joy and excitement as I claimed my leviathan frigate.

I hope to hear your reactions to the end as well. Thanks for reading!

Fixing a crappy C-class solar ship before scrapping: an analysis

Fixing a crappy C-class solar ship before scrapping: an analysis

My current way to earn units is scrapping crashed ships. (Hint: Gek pirate systems with water)

I usually just ignore crappy ships (value less than 10MM with scanner), but occasionally for one reason or another, I end up flying one back to the space station. So I was interested: is it worth it to repair cargo slots before scrapping?

I ran the numbers.

Summary: Scrap value before cargo slot repair: 1.305MM After repair: 4.9MM Increase of: 3.595MM

Space station cost of all repair components: 1,209,355 units (not including things I cannot buy, i.e. activated copper, oxygen, condensed carbon to make antimatter)

The numbers look much better if you have farms for the annoying to buy or expensive things. I have an activated indium farm for the sole purpose of getting chromatic metal, for instance.

So technically, it’s probably worth it to fix even the crappiest of ships before scrapping, assuming you have easy access to the parts you need. IMO, not worth the time if you can move on to something that has a larger return on your investment of time.

Assuming it formats reasonably, here’s a table of everything I bought and a typical space station price (for me, yours may vary depending on difficulty settings)

Beautiful, right?!

Glyphs on second pic. Found this place in a system without a space station (sadly) but the system has both activated and regular emeril. The storms on this planet don’t hurt and creates the best rainbows. 🌈😍 submitted by /u/Unique_D…

No Man's Sky would benefit from an in-game civilization system

There are a number of player formed civilizations in NMS, but the game itself doesn’t have any kind of system for forming and joining civilizations. Given the current state of multiplayer, with most players having access to the same universe, now would be a good time to implement such a system. Not entirely a new concept, but some features might include:

  • The ability to form a civilization and recruit other players. Civ names can appear next to players’ gamertags/usernames that are members of a civilization.
  • A governance system where players can create ranks that have different privileges.
  • Players could create custom flags for their civs.
  • Claiming starsystems and planets as part of a civilization.
  • co-ownership and management of bases, settlements, and freighters.

Now a system like this would probably go hand in hand with a major settlement overhaul, as part of the same or separate update. Settlements could act as the hearts of civilizations as players work together to grow, maintain, and defend settlements across their civs. A settlement update might include:

  • More freedom over where a settlement is established, what players can build in a settlement, the layout of settlement specific buildings, and the number of settlements a player (or civ) can own.
  • Settlement requirements like food, water, hazard protection, life support, power, and housing.
  • Implementing the existing farming, mining, power, and cooking mechanics in the game.
  • The ability to establish trade routes via frigates between settlements and bases. Trade routes may need to be defended against pirates from time to time.
  • Settlement building that serve specific functions and can be damaged or destroyed during sentinel attacks.
  • Set up defenses against sentinel attacks.

What do you guys think? Is this an update you’d like to see at some point? Are there any other features you’d want implemented in a civilization update?
