I just feel bad

I've just started playing the actual story of this game and something about it just makes me… Nervous? Anxious? I'm not sure what the right word is really cause it's not like it's in my face all the time.

I'll be running around playing with animals and scanning plants and naming worlds and then… A fallen freighter with its glowing core ripped out whispers to me of voids. A lonely, barren planet's horizon is broken only by the pulsing diamond of a stranger's grave. It tells me stories of the creature in a search for… SOMETHING. Lost audio logs on planets of acid oceans and never ending lightning beg me not to follow, but pray they can be found before they're lost forever.

My own home, my own settlement I've invited in strangers. A Gek overseer who knows me, knows my children was once a comfort. A friendly quest giver unlocking greater pieces of technology and lore I could not on my own. A Korvax scientist bursting with excitement, just coming of age to explore the endless universe 'alone'. My home and my supply a perfect safe haven for this tiny part of something bigger to grow…

Yet… The very moment I get them settled within my home something changes. Amid the simple tasks of building and gathering there is something… Wrong. Ramblings of the Gek on my destroying of planets thrown in at the end of dialogue. The need for weapons. The command of hunting out Sentinels to gather ingredients from their destroyed parts. Gone is my exuberant Korvax excited for the future. It it's place something new and wounded. A part of the whole that has been cut off entirely… Because of me. Because it drew too close to a Traveler… it is now being punished through no fault of its own.

I am left to only do as told to progress. Slay the Sentinels for the Gek. Offer what little comfort I am able to, to the Korvax I stunted by providing false hope… Providing them with a paultry replacement of tools speaking with one another. It… Leaves me uncomfortable. I know something is wrong. I know that I do not have grasp of the full picture and… I am reluctant to push forward.

Who else will I harm if I do? Because I have done harm. My ignorance, my blind faith in friendship and kindness lulled me into a sense of safety. I forgot, amid the exotic plants and beautiful animals that I am… Apart. Something that does not belong here. And it leaves me feeling bad. Guilty over the resources I've stolen and planets I've plundered.

I cannot tell if this game is good, or bad. But what I can tell is that there is much more going on than I first thought. And that is… Worrisome.

Just made 33K nanites with food made from a single Bio Dome of Fungal Mold - and how that compares t...

So I started a new Permadeath save after my previous PD save grief period ended and I wanted to try different ways of doing things. There’s a nice cooking guide that I read a few years ago if anyone’s interested. TLDR at the end

https://www.reddit.com/r/NoMansSkyTheGame/comments/g4fynb/lazy_cooking_for_nanites_guide_updated/

So the simplest way is using 200 fungal mold and turn them into 50 delicious vegetable stew with at least 4 nutrient processors. I built 16 so I could get it done faster (4 full runs at a time). Total harvest from the bio dome was 1296 fungal mold that became 324 delicious vegetable stews.

With 55k nanite I went to the anomaly and gave them all for Chronos to taste and now I’m at 88k nanites, 33k richer than before. It takes 20 minutes for the whole cooking process to happen from fungal to stew, so I spent around 40 minutes as it took me 2 runs on the 16 nutrient processors. The first part is a very chill thing to do – fill the processors and wait. I took my time to read a nice book in the intervals of filling processors. There’s also mods that makes refining and cooking instant, so that’d save a lot of time for PC players.

The second part is giving it to Chronos and that is too repetitive. Took me some 25 minutes to give it all to him and I paused at every 1/3 of the way because it was very boring. I spent an hour scrapping A class cheap ships (eventually s classes too) and while I got a little more nanites and lost some cash it wasn’t as tedious as giving him all that stuff. But considering that the first part you’re relatively “free” to do other stuff, it goes like 25 minutes of super boringness against an hour of regular boringness so it still is a better alternative, at least for me.

Scrapping ships have their additional perks tough – enough storage augmentations and you can make quite some cash getting an eventual s class ship to 48 slots, gaining a 100+million units surplus in the process while still hoarding some S class upgrades from the eventual S class ships you’ll stumble upon.

TLDR: So if I’ve got my fleet all patched up I’d go for delicious vegetable stews, if I want some upgrades then it’s ship scrapping time.

Traveler PSA: Turn off PVP

PVP is turned ON by default and while most of the community is pretty chill there is always that one troll that doesn’t know when to quit. Remember if you die 3 times in a row you’ll lose your suit inventory and the inventory of your current ship, even if you recover your grave.

So if you want to play in Multi-player but don’t want to live dangerously go into the game’s menu and under the Network tab set PVP to NO ONE or FRIENDS ONLY.

Edit: Some civilizations have PVP events/areas so setting PVP to Friends only will allow you to join in by adding “enemies” to your friends list, at least temporally, without leaving you open to attack by random strangers.

A Lost Traveller

It has been over 7 years since we first picked up the game together. We traveled thousands of light-years and saw many beautiful and dangerous worlds. We became rich. We became powerful. We became brothers. The last 7 months of traveling through the cosmos alone has been empty. You weren’t just a fellow traveler. You were my best friend. I will never stop exploring and seeking new discoveries but I would trade everything we gained to have you back for just a moment. I miss you Trent. You were my brother. All I can hope is that this is simply the end of this iteration and that you’ll be able to see the wonders of the universe first hand without the need for a screen. I love you and I miss you my friend. Rest in peace.

PSA: If you will add a biofuel reactor to your base, I'll fuel it when I visit....

Nothing more frustrating than teleporting into a base for, say some quick Mould, and having to fly to space, dock with the station, and teleport back home.

If folks would add a reactor just in case things go south on their power supply, I have zero problem fueling the reactor with some Carbon while I’m there

I just thought about this because I’m on one of the planets with every glyph, and I keep running into bases with no power. I’ll hook ya up, it’s only fair. 😁
