This is probably going to be old news to some but I discovered a couple things while I was scrapping that might be helpful So – what I was doing – Hanging out at a BOOMING economy space station. I like to do this cuz the quality of ships is higher (more A and S classes and an exotic now and then). Scrapping A classes gives you about 600-900 nanites if you sell the upgrades to the NPC’s. You lose money on scrapping overall but I’ve got money to burn so no big. When you scrap it kicks out random useless junk you have to sell but also some minerals that are useful. Ok, so what’s the secret? Well – while you’re doing this, buy and sell from the pilots. Buy what? well I buy all their minerals but once in a while they’ll pop in with Di-Hydrogen Jelly. ALOT of it! 650 isn’t unusual. 10 Jelly = 500 Di-Hydrogen if you refine it. That’s 6500 Di-Hydrogen with a click! In an hour I only found one pilot with it but plenty with Tritium and bought all of that and most of anything else they had. Ended up with 10,000+ of almost every mineral you can think of and enough Fuel to last a week for all the Frigate missions and thousands of nanites and a new exotic! submitted by /u/marshasyn |

I needed cadmium for my first hyperdrive upgrade. I looked online and saw that cadmium was found on planets that orbit red stars. I opened the galaxy map and swapped filters to get a nice black background instead of the hazy red nebula that I was in to help me spot red stars. Every time I flew to a red star, it wouldn’t be red. Time after time after time I would warp and sigh because it wasn’t what I was looking for. For 4 hours over 2 days I searched for a red star. I found every color imaginable and saw some very cool planets, but no cadmium. I thought that maybe the systems were color coded in a different way so I googled how to find red stars in No Man’s Sky. There were no helpful results. Because nobody else had been so stupid.
After 5 hours searching I realized that I had been flipping the filter to “lifeform” to get rid of the red haze which changed the colors of the stars. According to the Steam achievement I ended up warping to more systems than 84% of players ever had. When I left the filter off I found cadmium on my first try.
I don’t even know how to feel. I’m glad I got cadmium but I am reconsidering if I’m cut out for space exploration.

I wish the planets had an actual map in the discovery screen, where you could see each waypoint discovered and spin the globe. I feel like it would very simply add a lot of depth to a shallow experience So many things they could flesh out in this game…

One question that I’ve seen asked quite often is if it is possible to play past expeditions, and people usually answer that aside from the four redux expeditions at the end of the year, you can’t, officially, that is the only way. However, there is a very easy and safe workaround that allows you to play any expedition at any time.
The data of all the past expeditions is still in the game, but these expeditions can no longer be accessed. However, there’s a file named SEASON_DATA_CACHE.json that controls the start and end dates of the expeditions, the milestones, the rewards, and a bit more. By editing this file, you can make these expeditions playable again without messing with the actual game files or your save file. JSON files are a bit hard to read and understand at first, but someone on github has already modified the file for all past expeditions, even accounting for the inventory system change in the Waypoint update. It’s literally just drag and drop; just make sure to read the readme files first, there’s a very good tutorial and notes about the expeditions, like bugs and possible workarounds.
