Alien Languages

Hi everyone,
I saw a post on here a couple weeks back asking about learning the languages, and the number of '???' ones not seeming to go down. I figured I would spend a bit of time no-lifing this, and learn the complete languages of the 3 alien races. After a couple of nights of just running around paradise planets, taking my exocraft between Trading Posts, Archive buildings and alien monoliths, I now have them fully learned, and have discovered the following things-

  1. While you are learning the languages, you will always have 32 'blanks' (???). This number only starts to go down once you have less than 32 words to learn. This is a full 'page' of words.
  2. The counts in the Guide and on the wiki are wrong. I don't know if more words were added in updates or something, but there are about 200 extra per language.
  3. Even after learning all words and getting to the point where Knowledge Stones give you the 'Learned Nothing New' message, conversations with aliens will still sometimes have words that you have not learned, and cannot learn.
  4. While using Knowledge Stones, they go in 'cycles' through the alphabet, A-Z. The final word of each language is 'video'.
  5. Mystery Words are by far the most numerous. If more words have been added in later updates, it seems like they all fall under this category. When I was learning Vy'keen, I ran out of all other categories of words and still got a couple of hundred Mystery Words from alien NPCs.

Here are the updated Word Counts:

Gek- Guide says 784, but I found a total of 982.

Vy'keen- Guide says 802, but I found a total of 996.

Korvax- Guide says 776, but I found a total of 982.

I have not yet completed the Atlas words.

Anyway, thought this might help anyone trying to complete their alien vocabularies!

Bought the game last night

I started out crash-landed on an alien planet and had to repair my starship. The game was kind enough to walk me through that, but I kept running out of heat protection and had to constantly scrounge up more sodium. Thankfully there were plenty of plants.

Once I got my ship fixed, I flew into space and hit hyperspeed…and accidentally went way past my objective and had to turn around. On the way back, I ran out of hyperspeed fuel and I thought I was boned, but the asteroids surrounding me were full of fuel. Hooray! I was able to make it to the second planet!

After landing in the wrong place, I made it to my destination and built a tiny little cabin where I could wait out the heat storms (and also hide from the Sentinel drone that kept chasing me around. Leave me alone! Those aren’t your plants!) Of course, I had trouble finding copper deposits, and I also ran into my first real problem: I got too far away from my ship and couldn’t find my way back for a while. I’m hoping I’ll eventually get a map or beacon or something so I can roam farther.

Then I went to a space station full of aliens! I couldn’t talk to most of them, but some of them taught me a few words, and a few offered to come work for me (though I didn’t have the necessary buildings.) Tonight I’m going back to my log cabin and I’ll see what else this planet has in store for me.

This game feels like it’s going to be me wandering around cluelessly, punctuated by a series of amazing discoveries. I’m stoked!

Stuck on radiated water planet.

I’m stuck on a very small island without rocks or dihydrogen around me. I cannot build a portable refiner, can’t make starship launch fuel (that’s why I’m stuck), and there isn’t a nearby island within miles. There are zero rocks underwater, radiation is a big problem, no matter what I do, I cannot find anything for me to get off. And despite uranium supposedly being a huge resource here, there is none in the vicinity.

So uh... The first free freighter....

So uh... The first free freighter....

It’s supposed to be an S-class right? 😅

I still haven’t clicked the claim button because I’m still sort of in shock. I went through the dog fight event, checked out the freighter and was a B-class, but I had to shut off the game. I didn’t realize it didn’t save. When I reverted the save and did it again, the RNG seemed to have blessed me with a S Capital ship after the single accidental save scum.

I haven’t been playing that long and don’t fully understand what I’m looking at as far as quality. How good is she as freighters go?
