NMS HOT POST 2023/02/23

my opinion on the update

I've played the game for at least 5 years now and have followed it activly ever since next.
I adore its lore, the worlds you can find, the mysteries you can uncover.

I was disappointed at first, just seeing an expedition, some random new ship and a some sort of overhaul of the recording system. Was that all?, i thought.

But I came to the conclusion that this is a lot when we look at the whole picture.

This is no AAA company with many employees, these people managed to pull of a switch port and a vr overhaul in a short amount of time, so getting anything beyond a vr update, much less an entire expedion and new items for the shop it seems…that is impressive.

I do hope now that only the apple port is left that they can focus on content again, on lore and maybe work on the custimisation of my beloved Korvax…but I am still very grateful what we received.

So please…don't speak too ill of them, i believe they are trying very hard.
(I could do with less grass rewards in the store though XD )

One of the creepiest planets I found so far.

One of the creepiest planets I found so far.

So, way back in Permadeath I found this Freezing Hell near the core of Calypso, so far nothing special right. But, the place had open ocean and I thought about building a small fishing boat right then and there.

So now, in normal mode I did. So what is so special about it? First of all, the nearest places to land were this two pieces of rock located 2000 and 2500 units away, there is nothing out there. Also, the sounds are pretty eerie and there is some growling coming from the ocean, somewhere near my ship.

There is nothing out there. The planet does have a lush overgrown environment, with predator animals and really aggressive sentinels. The ocean is yellow.

So this is my fishing ship, named it The Orca… turns out quite convenient actually.

Now, with the nightfall and storms, things get quite different, a lot.

Most of these actually hit quite close to the ship, but that’s nothing.

Think I’m gonna need a bigger boat…

If you ever encountered a sea worm in the middle of nowhere, you will know it’s quite a sight. I’ve seen tons of them on the land and kinda got used to them, this one was quite a surprise.

So, in part it’s the planet, in part the location if figured I’d try and build my boat… Anyway, figured I’d share.

Built this in normal mode. Took me a while to find the damn planet again.

Anyone else think about how we treat sentinel interceptors compared to how we treat bioships?

Seems to me there is a heck of a double standard involved. Both types of ship are sentient beings in the lore of No Man’s Sky.

Yet, to obtain a bioship one must feed and nurture its consciousness into being, meeting its developing needs communicated to you through psychic song, and ultimately forming a bond with it as a parent to a child.

To obtain a sentinel ship, you must accost a disabled one that is hostile to the idea of being controlled, install an interface to transmit your control inputs to it, and then rip out its sentient brain and take it to a monolith to be brainwashed into becoming docile and obeying your commands.

I’m not judging, it’s just a video game. I just found the juxtaposition kind of hilarious.

Huh, that’s neat

Glyphs are in screenshot, it is on Euclid Galaxy, and it’s at coords -28.64, -142.14 on planet Snomchus Signa (I did not change the name). I’ve never seen anything like it. submitted by /u/Thee-Plague-Doctor [link] [comments…

Let me map planets

I wish the planets had an actual map in the discovery screen, where you could see each waypoint discovered and spin the globe. I feel like it would very simply add a lot of depth to a shallow experience So many things they could flesh out in this game…

Play past expeditions today(only on pc, sorry console people)

One question that I’ve seen asked quite often is if it is possible to play past expeditions, and people usually answer that aside from the four redux expeditions at the end of the year, you can’t, officially, that is the only way. However, there is a very easy and safe workaround that allows you to play any expedition at any time.

The data of all the past expeditions is still in the game, but these expeditions can no longer be accessed. However, there’s a file named SEASON_DATA_CACHE.json that controls the start and end dates of the expeditions, the milestones, the rewards, and a bit more. By editing this file, you can make these expeditions playable again without messing with the actual game files or your save file. JSON files are a bit hard to read and understand at first, but someone on github has already modified the file for all past expeditions, even accounting for the inventory system change in the Waypoint update. It’s literally just drag and drop; just make sure to read the readme files first, there’s a very good tutorial and notes about the expeditions, like bugs and possible workarounds.
