No Man’s Sky Helped Me With Anxiety, Did Not Expect.

No Man's Sky Helped Me With Anxiety, Did Not Expect.

Heads up, a few spoilers in this short story–mostly regarding the Artemis and Atlas questlines. I'll blur some things out, just to be safe!

I recently moved to the other side of the country (from east coast to west coast US), and since then I've been challenged by a kind of anxiety that I hadn't really experienced prior to the move: not knowing where my "place" really is.

Since arriving here, I haven't really felt "at home", despite my apartment being nice and comfortable. I live with my fiancee and our dog, and we generally have a pretty wonderful life together–but I can't seem to shake this sense of feeling out of place. I sometimes get stuck in these thought loops of feeling like I shouldn't be here in this new city, that I should be in a more familiar and recognizable place, which can definitely be hard to break out of.

That being said, I'm currently at the "Purge" part of the Artemis/Atlas questline, and I feel like it really helped me zoom out a bit and become more comfortable with the discomfort. Atlas' "reveal" was pretty shocking, and knowing that I (the player character) had such a limited amount of time to live was a bit intimidating, but the comfort I got from Nada and Polo was so unexpected! I found myself really starting to challenge the "I shouldn't be here in this unfamiliar place" thought pattern as I approached the end of this questline, and I am just so thankful for the experience. When Nada said something to the effect of "find your own happiness" I had to put my controller down and just kinda reflect for a while. Obviously, really breaking down anxious/harmful thought patterns is going to take more than just completing a video game quest, but I'm surprised and thankful that it helped, even a tiny bit.

Rediscovering this game after bailing on it shortly after launch has been a really wonderful experience, and I just wanted to share some of my thoughts. Thanks for reading, Traveller-friend.

You guys seemed to enjoy my last screenshot

… I have a spinal disease, so I can’t really go out, or do many of the hobbies I used to enjoy, so I’ve found getting creative in No Man’s Sky is a nice outlet. You guys seemed to enjoy my last one, so I thought I’d share another:

Multiplayer etiquette?

Hello travelers, I’ve recently fallen in love with No Man’s Sky and after around 30 hours of solo play I wanna dive into some multiplayer missions.

I’m playing on Xbox and as far as I know there’s no way for me to chat in public chat at the Anomaly and a lot of the chat I see is weird undefined characters I cannot read for some reason, so I never know what I’m supposed to do when I join a random group at the Nexus and they all start typing and splitting up into different systems. I don’t know if they’re mad at me for not knowing what to do or if they’re just vibing and talking with each other.

This made me wonder: what is the etiquette for random multiplayer sessions in NMS? Does everyone just go straight for the mission? Can everyone just do what they want? Is it better to split up?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

What types of missions would give me a Doctor Who roleplay feel?

I’m still pretty new to the game, just got my first freighter and settlement. I love exploring.

But the specific roleplay experience I’m looking for is to: Go somewhere, maybe random
Land my ship on a planet and generally not rely on it for inner atmosphere travel or saving my ass
Find someone who needs help or that something needs to be improved, which I’d be able to do without leaving the planet and not just pulling the fix from my inventory
Then I make my way back to my ship having “saved the day” and off to find someone else in need

Are there missions which fit this experience, either that the mission sends me there or that it’s something to do when I find a settlement which I’m not the leader of? If there’s these types of on-planet missions settlements give, I could warp into a system, search the closest settlement, land there, and do whatever local dangerous things they need.

Looking to get sandworm as a pet

Hi! Just like the title says, I am looking for a sandworm to tame. I am aware that having a pet sandworm was made possible through a quest, and I’m wondering if anyone has a spare sandworm egg they’d be willing to part with (if that is a thing since I have no idea if your pet sandworm can have gestation induced). I’d be happy to compensate you for it – I can offer valuable in-game items in exchange.
Thank you!

Freighter Spawn Help

I know you need to have 3 in game hours and jump 5x to trigger a space battle. (I have 76hrs) Why won’t one spawn? What are the pre requisites? (E.g. active missions/inactive missions/bugs) I can’t get one to spawn at all. I don’t know what I’m doing…
