The Omega Expedition is the ultimate quicksilver farm while it lasts

Now that the final optional milestone is unlocked and patch 4.52 unbroke the expedition, the Omega Expedition is the ultimate quicksilver farm until it ends. You can easily get 6000 quicksilver in an hour or less. I was able to finish in 45 minutes by doing the following steps to avoid unnecessary backtracking and moving around.

  1. Immediately scan six plants to get the Exobotany milestone and install the scanner upgrade. Scan as many fauna as you can see and various plants and minerals (focus on whatever your scanner upgrade is giving you a bonus for). In total, you need ~135K units to start for microprocessors and eventually another 250K to 300K for wiring looms.
  2. Find your ship and repair it, collecting necessary resources along the way. Take off and head to the nearest ice planet. The ice planets have more things to scan compared to the other planets. Scan as many fauna as you can to try and get the Life In All Its Forms milestone and the second scanner upgrade.
  3. Build your base to finish the next milestone and refine some chromatic metal from the copper you received.
  4. Somewhere between the starting planet and your base planet, repair all but one each of the broken starship and multitool slots to get the Scavenger milestone. You will need the nanites in a minute. The magnetic ferrite and silver are the easiest ones to skip fixing since they are the hardest/most time consuming to get.
  5. Before heading to the space station, install the hyperdrive and build one warp cell. Doing this while at your base ensures you have enough resources without having to backtrack.
  6. Head to the space station and buy the microprocessors to finish the hyperdrive. While you’re here, buy 3 C-class hyperdrive upgrades (buy, save, reload) with the nanites from the Scanveger milestone. These will give you enough range to make every warp except the last one in a single go.
  7. Go to Rendezvous 1-4 and get both the normal and optional milestones, keeping in mind the amount of units you need for wiring looms as you’re scanning.
  8. Somewhere between Rendezvous 1 and 4, you need to find a Traveler grave, get the Indium Drive plans, and install it. The earliest you can do this is on the Rendezvous 1 space station. If you pick the correct option when talking to the Traveler, you should get enough nanites to ask where their grave is (reload if you pick the wrong option). Alternately, if you go into the Anomaly with the milestone selected, you can ask Polo where to find a Traveler.
  9. Travel to Rendezvous 5 and finish the last two milestones. At this point, you should have 6000 quicksilver. Technically, you could finish the full set of milestones to get another 4000 or so quicksilver, but if all you want is the quicksilver it is much faster to just start a new save and go again.
  10. Go to the Anomaly and buy whatever you want from the quicksilver vendor. These items can then be claimed on any other save you want.

Gisto Major will be a capital of sorts

With literally hundreds of bases on the one planet already.

But many more spread through the solar system and nearby galaxy. You can’t warp to a star from Gisto Major that isn’t already colonized by several players.

I love it.

It’s like a colonized region of space with its epicenter on You Know Where. It’s very cool and very Sci fi. Reminds me a lot of Asimov’s universe with Trantor and all that.

I hope some future expeditions accomplish the same thing so there end up being multiple different civilized bubbles in the galaxy all with their own epicenter.

Well, I knew that someday it will happen

This post is not about cool starship/planet/freighter/etc. that I found. I just want to share something really terrifying that happened to me today. I’m not looking for advice, just want to share.

I was playing NMS for a long time (since 2017 or so). There is something charming in endless space with uncountable amount of planets to explore. Someday I discovered for myself permadeath mode. And then it all began: I know that 500+ hours of pure gameplay isn’t that much, but for a working person that don’t have much spare time it feels like (and it truly is) years to be able to achieve this. Fully upgraded S-class Resurgent freighter, full dock of different S-class spaceships (basically every type available I love to collect some useless junk to please my soul), S-class multitools, expedition rewards, only one achievement left to 100% the game and now it’s all gone.

How did that happen? It was absolutely my fault. I’m not gonna blame the game despite the fact it has plenty of bugs. I went afk for 5 minutes and when I returned all I saw was starting screen so I don’t know what killed me.

I don’t have backup or cloud safe. I play on PS4. And tbh it doesn’t matter. I knew that this will happen sooner or later and you cannot be prepared for this.

I absolutely wish to return to this magnificent and fascinating game. I believe that there is still endless possibilities and opportunities. But all lost progress seems just too heavy duty for me to handle now.

Be safe and make backups, but more importantly: have fun in your journeys, Travellers.

Expedition 4 - Emergence Tips (Spoiler Free!)

Having finished the latest expedition twice now (on PS5 and PC), I thought I would jot down some non-spoilery tips for people who have yet to take the plunge. None of these are essential, but they could save you time and frustration.

  1. Spend some time on the starting planet collecting storm crystals for cash. Also pick up any ancient bones you come across; if you’re dedicated, you can knock out one of the later milestones. At the least though you can put a dent in it (and get some more starting cash).
  2. The starting system is wealthy so it’s relatively easy to get an A-class (or even S-class) ship. A 19-slot S-class explorer will run you just under 2M, an A-class is even cheaper. With some S-class hyperdrive upgrades purchased from the ship tech vendor, either will allow you to warp to any rendezvous point (from the previous one) in one jump. Bonus: you won’t have to install the hyperdrive and will probably get launch thruster upgrades.
  3. Also, the starting system’s space station multitool box has a nice B-class alien rifle if you don’t like your starting MT. Simply reload on the station with multiplayer OFF to get it to appear if you don’t see it (it’s around 2M units).
  4. Save three hadal cores and four larval cores (from whispering eggs). You can safely sell/refine any extras.
  5. Any of the various organic “prizes” you get from the milestones can be sold for cash. The fleshy ropes you get from wiping out worm dens can also be safely sold. Don’t let them clog up your inventory! Note: fleshy ropes tend to sell better on space stations than planetside. I leave it up to you if you want to sell the story items, they’re not used for anything but they are unique.
  6. Make use of the generosity of your fellow travelers. Even with multiplayer off, you can still find and visit bases. Use the space station teleporter to find bases that help you gather larval cores or locate a planetary archive.
  7. The starting system (again) has an easy to do derelict freighter. You’ll only need to cap a couple of security drones and can avoid the few turrets. No mucking about with alien egg sacks!
  8. The third rendezvous station sells a wide variety of multitool upgrades.
  9. The only hazard protection you’ll need on the rendezvous planets is extreme heat/fire. You can safely sell any others you find for nanites, although if you find a cold mod it will be useful on the derelict freighter.
  10. Unless you really want to muck around with the Nautilon, you can safely sell the sub upgrades for nanites. However, if you plan on keeping the expedition save as a normal save once you’re done, hang on to them. They’ll make the Dreams of the Deep mission line so much easier.

Welcome to the new daily FAQ thread for NMSTG! You can now drop a question, provide answers or just ...

Below are a few popular questions that we’ve received from our past FAQ thread. As always we ask that everyone be respectful and we welcome everyone’s contribution so have fun!

Q- I’m keen to start a new passive money making pursuit. What are some good ideas or guides post-Waypoint?

A#1-Gold farm, then take that stack and sell it at a terminal (not traders) in systems that sell gold. Sell all your gold to the terminal and crash the economy. Then buy it all back at 80% off discount. You just got free money and keep all the gold. All this takes is an initial investment on a gold farm, then you carry all that gold with you and just sell/buy back when you get to another system that sells gold. With 50 stacks in my ship’s cargo hold, I can make somewhere around 150 million units in each system I do this in.

A#2-Start a Farm, Fusion Igniters or Statis Devices Farm which will increase your profits to 100- 200 mil fairly quickly and you can even send out multiple freighter missions which will help you get aronium, magno-gold, Enriched carbon and more which will increase the profits even more.

A#3-Quickest way I’ve found to make a TON of units: Harvesting Storm Crystals. Find a VERY hot planet that has frequent fire storms. DURING STORMS ONLY – you can see the bright white light from Storm Crystals if you fly around low enough. Fly to them, land, quickly harvest them, get back in your ship and fly to the next before you burn up.

Q-How do I get the Advanced Mining Laser? I don’t have the option to craft one, and the multi-tool upgrade vendor at the space station doesn’t have the blueprint for sale.

A-In order to get it, you have to look for the blueprints in crashed ships or abandoned facilities. You get it from the main story (awakenings) or you can buy it on the anomaly.

Q-What do I actually do in the game? I finished the tutorial, is there anything else beside gathering stuff, building a base and repeat?

A#1-It’s really whatever you want, there’s a base story, (assuming you haven’t completed it already), follow the quest log and you’ll figure it out, but things You’d want to do for end game? You can collect multiple multitools, ships, built a fleet for your freighter, etc.

Q-Is there a planet that is populated by many players, and they built their base close to each others like a city?

A- Yeah its the Galactic Hub Project, Its a place where many people have bases and each day the numbers grow. Please help yourself. There are many factions in NMS that do this, even NMS Pirates Hub.

Q-I’m still pretty early into the game, just making my way to the center of the galaxy, what should I be spending my credits on?

A-Go hang around a outlaw/pirate trading post. Cheapest S-class start at around 8-8.5 million without a trade-in. I recommend Vikeen pirate, as then you have two good and 1 remote chances at high-maneuverability S-class: fighter, solar, exotic.

Horseshoe crab ship!!! :D

Horseshoe crab ship!!! :D

Found this at a space station in my home galaxy right as I was about to log out, and I was instantly like “omg I need to buy this for my girlfriend”. She was peeking over my shoulder and had the same thought so I bought it as quick as I could! The lovely people here have shown me how to transfer ships, so when she plays next I’m going to give it to her. For right now it is safely docked in my freighter. Also note the differently colored wings! It’s not just the lighting.
