Rare cave fauna

Infuriating af. Everything else is super easy to find but whenever fauna says rare and underground it's harder to find than shiny ditto in pokemon. Been on this planet for six hours and gone through over 50 caves to no avail and there isn't any single building and maps can't be used here so

The "dynamic base pieces" are sucking the joy out of base building for me.

I always loved base building in this game, yes the new pieces look great…unless you want to build a multi story building. Whenever you stack a wall on another wall, no matter if there is a floor panel between them, the upper walls will get this extremely ugly, different texture.

It also makes it impossible to build a building on uneven terrain, if you want the building to look believable you would just put walls under it to “connect” it with the ground. Well now you can’t do that without making your building an abomination because walls at the same level will be divided into segments that were “dynamically changed” and those that weren’t.

Please let us disable this function. Please.

PSA for the pinhead trolls who build bases over portals and crashes: It takes less than three second...

I applaud the complexity of the base, the time and materials it must have taken to build it, and the assholery level required to want to do it in the first place.

I also enjoy the fact that you clearly wasted hours of your life building it, because it takes less time to get it out of my way than it does to punch in the glyphs to the portal you unsuccessfully tried to block… but then I guess “failure” is a defining feature for you, isn’t it.

Keep up the good work. Looking forward to encountering and removing the next one I see.

About enjoying the game

About enjoying the game

2 weeks ago I made a post asking how could I enjoy the game more, and I realized I just had the wrong approach.

I was too used to games that reward you / give you feedback on every little action you make and walking you by hand in every mission, limiting your actions, giving you main and side goals, etc.

Every time I tried to play NMS I would get bored- I think overwhelmed is a better description, because I had a ton of stuff to do, but everything felt meaningless because I wasn’t getting feedback or progressing towards a bigger something.

And I just realized, that’s the whole point of it.

The game’s not the one supposed to give me feedback or any objective at all, but me.

There’s no “progress” in the game, because I can progress however I want.

There’s no “objectives” in the game, because I can set my own objectives.

Once I realized this, my view of the game completely shifted and I started enjoying it a lot more. I never get overwhelmed or bored or feel like my actions have no meaning.

I am the one who will decide how to play, which planets to go to, how I build my bases and where, what ships and weapons I keep for my collection and which ones I scrap. If I want to spend hours and hours farming nanites, if I go looking for new cosmetics for my character, if I want to find a new pet, if I decide to crash the galactic market of countless of systems and then take advantage of the reduced prices to make even more money, or if I just want to take a walk through space, I can do it and still not feel like I’m not doing anything, because that’s what the game is about.
