NMS HOT POST 2021/05/9

My first base in my expedition. Found an old base computer from an older version of the game and decided to settle. I wanted to see what it was like building on flat ground, haha. The site came with a salt deposit and an oxygen cloud nearby. Near the starting system in the Expedition 1 (Leythee).

I have no words

Talk about feeling absolutely stupid and crushed.

I have spent countless hours working on my main file to build with my dad. I was in a really good spot, enough units to cover any needs. My dad and I even shared the same planet. I was trophy hunting on a second file but did it wrong. I went to delete it. Y’all probably know where this is headed.

I deleted the wrong file.

And I have no one to blame but myself.

I will admit. I am sobbing. I worked so hard to be in a good place for my dad to be practically carefree. Now all of that is gone.

I would really appreciate any suggestions on how to move things forward quickly( getting upgrades, nanites, and units). It really hurts, but I have no one to blame but myself. I don’t even know if I should tell my dad. I feel so incredibly guilty.

Is griefing/trapping possible?

Did I get griefed?

Storytime:

I joined a Nexus mission to kill monstrosities, one other person initialised it, so I got transported to one of their systems.

We left off to one of their systems, where they had a base.

As soon as I landed, it weirded me out because it was an extremely violennt heat planet with heat storms & volcanos. Not the best place to build a base.

I couldn’t properly locate the facility where the eggs where, so it took me a while. I ended up following the mission leader to a spot with 2 landing pads and a short range teleporter. He pointed me there, basically, and I thought he was about to help me (having built a base at the facility maybe).

When I stepped in I teleported into an area full of either landing pads or flooring (couldn’t tell properly), with the other end of the short range teleporter having no power, and me taking extreme heat damage (I saw it was very high up, might have been the top of a vulcano?).

Next thing is I died, and was back at the nexus.

I’m a very new player, what happened?

  • TL;DR: Did someone built a one way short range teleport and grief me by baiting a nexus mission?

Edit: Spelling.

I love the new added depth to standing, frigates and trading!

I know the space stations and ship building are the highlights and everyone is talking about them, but I just wanted to share my love for some features that I seriously appreciate but aren’t really talked about:

First, I’ve always complained about the standing system being completely pointless. Even when Outlaws came out and gave us the ability to reset our standing, I kept thinking there was no point for it, apart from like one mission being locked off, it genuinely felt like the numbers you saw in your catalogue were completely detached from the actual gameplay. So I’m finally overjoyed that it has a genuine purpose now with discounts! Prices in station shops reflect your standing with the race and it tells you by how much! It’s a start I’d say, but a really impactful one too!

The guild now also has a physical presence and no longer feels like some imaginary concept that was also entirely detached from the game and only existed as a number in your catalogue. Now they’re actually in the game (I still haven’t figured out what determines which one of the 3 appear in stations) and raising standing with them is actually really encouraging since they give you some really useful items either for free or at a discount. Increasing standing with them is also much easier now with the new donation mechanic rather than doing missions.

Next, the frigate expeditions once again always felt like an imaginary thing; you sent them out on expeditions, waited a few hours, and they’d say what happened and you had to pretend it was true while they gave you the loot. Now there’s an actual consequence that you get to be involved in. Instead of the whole thing being a passive money making thing, they occasionally ask you for advice or help protect them from enemies. One time I was asked to warp to their location and land on a frigate so I could read a message they found and they asked me what to do… turns out the language I knew directly affected how much of the text was readable and I could make an informed decision, so knowing the language has more meaning as well!

And lastly, the trading. It was something I knew existed but 100% ignored. But now the economy scanner has a new function where you can choose to detect economy surges and it’ll tell you which system to invest what in, and it’s on a timer so it’s like a little mini game to get rich. Trading is actually kinda fun now that there’s an actual guided mechanic around it.

I think there's something I don't understand with the nautilon

So I’m doing the dreams of the depths quest, I built the nautilon and added the scanner thingy, and now I’m supposed to use it to find a sunken freighter

The games tells me to use the quick menu to activate the scanner

But there is no quick menu? Or at least I can’t access it?

What am I supposed to do then? Swim across the whole planet untill the regular scanner finds something?
