NMS HOT POST 2021/06/5

Playing for the first time since 2016

I got this game at the midnight release the day that it launched in the summer of 2016, and like just about everybody that played it at launch was massively disappointed and returned the game about a month later.

Recently I was scrolling through the Game Pass with my girlfriend and saw No Mans Sky and told her the story of the launch (we had just both played Cyberpunk, so it was poignant at the time lol) but I had heard that the game had been improved massively and there were people citing Hello Games as the kind of outline for what to do when massive hype turns into a massive letdown – looking at you CDPR. We both installed it and since we’re both space nerds the first couple hours of playing was cool, but I was still uncertain.

I can now say with no hesitation that No Mans Sky is my favorite game of the past ten years. I’ve dropped so many hours into it and I still feel like I’m discovering something new every time I log on. I’ve convinced like five of my friends to download it and now every time I log on my entire friends list is almost exclusively playing NMS. Also this sub is one of the better video game communities I’ve ever come across.

I don’t really know what the point of this post was, other than to say thank you Hello Games and I’ll see the rest of you amidst the stars.

First Timer, Started off on a Blazing Hot Planet

Is it normal to start off on a planet that is incredibly hot? I swear I had literal seconds to spare figuring out where to find the sodium I needed to keep myself alive. So, I didn’t die, that much is good. I traded with one bird/reptile dude eventually. Named a few crazy lookin beasts. One looked like a beaver and a ground mole had a gigantic child (two big beaver-looking tails and the finger-star mole nose on a pretty basic quadruped body). Another looked like a stegosaurus and an iguana had a baby. Got my spaceship up and running by some miracle and harvested a ton of Na+ just so I wasn’t on edge walking around. Explored a few wreckages and tower thingies. Found a distress signal and a bunch of broken stuff on the ship where the alien died. I left most of it. Had no idea where to find most of the resources to fix it all. And now finally I am on the next planet over. A big toxic fungal ball. This game is weird. I think I like it though.

Looking to join a Civilization

Hi, I’m trying to find the right civilized space community and I’m struggling to find one with all the multitudes of different factions, alliances, etc.

My main obsession with the game is actually crafting and industrial mining (using extractors), and I already have a ginormous collection of bases myself that allow me, well, to have more or less infinite money and stuff in single player mode. I would also enjoy any type of online socializing and base-building. Any ideas? I’ve tried a few colonies and communities, but I haven’t really found myself in any of them, yet.

Many thanks and clear skies,

SP

This has happened at least twice. The first time I had to pull sync data from the cloud to be able to play again. It disabled auto sync so now my backup file loads into this white screen also. I can’t get past it. I can’t push buttons I can’t hea…
