Cooking needs an upgrade

I’ve been playing Breath of the Wild lately (maybe I’ll actually finish it this time) and noticing how much more rewarding it is to gather ingredients and experiment with different recipes for cooking. The buffs you get just make it so much more worth the effort. In No Man’s Sky, out of hundreds of recipes, there are only really a handful of “buffs”. Most of them just replenish small amounts of hazard protection or life support, something which you can do easily and with better results without cooking. And don’t even get me started on how ridiculous Cronus is.

It’s clear that Hello Games put a lot of work into this feature so I think a proper upgrade to make it more worthwhile is in order. Here are some examples of various temporary buffs that can be added to cooking recipes:

Immunity to various hazards, with different recipes for each hazard type and varying durations.

Reduce the rate of stamina, hazard protection, jetpack, or life support depletion

Sentinels ignore you

predators ignore you

Increase mining beam yields

Increase total health/shield

Increase the chance of rare fauna spawning when dropped on the ground

Increase movement speed

Add your ideas in the comments

In addition to new buffs from consuming recipes and feeding fauna, we should be able to grow edible plants and raise noncompanion livestock in our bases. Some recipes might be a bit OP if we can just grow the ingredients so they might require rare ingredients that we need to go hunting for or take a high risk to obtain. But in general, adding new buffs and letting us grow more ingredients would, in my opinion, make cooking a more worthwhile endeavor in No Man’s Sky. What do you guys think?

I slept on this game for far go long.

I tried getting this game on PC back in 2018-19. I found myself frustrated and not enjoying it at all, things like the inventory and feel of the game just didn’t feel right to me. All in all I logged maybe 1 hour 30 minutes?

Fast forward to just about a week ago, I have all these gamepass games and the new MW2 game and all I can think about is playing No Mans Sky. I played 8 hours straight. I haven’t done that to any game since 2011 just out of highschool. Hell I haven’t stayed up past 2am to game since 2009. Yet last night I found myself begrudgingly forcing myself to get off at 4am.

Its been so long since I’ve felt the wonder of gaming, the feel of whats just beyond the next hill.

This game might not be perfect but I think it does what a lot of games forget to do these days and just create fun. Nothing is to serious, yet the game can be as serious as I want it to.

I’d consider myself fresh as can be to, I’ve only made 1.5m credits and just made my first 6000 nanites, I’m still rocking the newbie ship with no extra goodies attached and I simply can’t find the time to settle down because the call to the next system drives me to see whats beyond.

Whenever No Mans Sky 2 comes along, I really think Hello Games will be in a better situation as a team both in organization and finances and I think then we will see all that No Mans Sky could ever be.

Also you guys as a community are great, so many people inviting me to party up, a few of you have stopped at my rinky dink little hut and waved or pointed at me. You guys have been a blast at making this big Univerae feel not so empty.

Building Limit Reached... I think it's time for me to go.

I’ve been with the game since day one. It’s given me an absurd number of hours of enjoyment and I am grateful for all the relief and escape it provided over the years — certainly more than any other game I’ve ever played.

Over the summer I reached the game’s building limit and since then I’ve been building and deleting so I can build more. I’ve had to bulldoze some of my favorite creations to make space for new work on new worlds.

Now, I think I’ve reached my own limit and it is time to move on. I wish everyone the best — it’s an amazing game and has been for a very long time. I might pop back for an hour or two if there are further updates, and if Hello Games ever decides to move to DLC, I’ll buy it sight unseen and jump back in — they’ve earned that.

What If Hello Games Added Gas Giants To No Man's Sky?

What If Hello Games Added Gas Giants To No Man's Sky?

My idea for a Gas Giant; one could spawn per system (with like a 40% chance of spawning in a system) and it could harbor 2-3 moons. But what would make this interesting is the moons that it could harbor would be more unique and far larger than the moons currently in the game, basically planets trapped in this giant’s orbit. Now you’re probably thinking how the gas giant would actually work since its, you know, made of gas. My idea is when you drive your ahip inside the gas giant, its a huge storm that decreses visability and can damage your ship if you’re not careful. But the plus side to this massive risk is you can find rare recourses in bulk, enticing players to actively take that risk. Idk, just somwthink ive been thinking about 😄

So uh... The first free freighter....

So uh... The first free freighter....

It’s supposed to be an S-class right? 😅

I still haven’t clicked the claim button because I’m still sort of in shock. I went through the dog fight event, checked out the freighter and was a B-class, but I had to shut off the game. I didn’t realize it didn’t save. When I reverted the save and did it again, the RNG seemed to have blessed me with a S Capital ship after the single accidental save scum.

I haven’t been playing that long and don’t fully understand what I’m looking at as far as quality. How good is she as freighters go?
