I have run out of Carbon for my mining laser and i have no carbon on me and my ship has run out of fuel and cannot take off
Do i need to restart or is there a way i can actually get going again?

My first Living ship

Is this a good one? I know it’s S class but does everything else look like a good ship overall? This is my first living ship. I still haven’t figured out how to lay out the tech in my normal s class ship but I’ll figure that part out. subm…

The Omega Expedition is the ultimate quicksilver farm while it lasts

Now that the final optional milestone is unlocked and patch 4.52 unbroke the expedition, the Omega Expedition is the ultimate quicksilver farm until it ends. You can easily get 6000 quicksilver in an hour or less. I was able to finish in 45 minutes by doing the following steps to avoid unnecessary backtracking and moving around.

  1. Immediately scan six plants to get the Exobotany milestone and install the scanner upgrade. Scan as many fauna as you can see and various plants and minerals (focus on whatever your scanner upgrade is giving you a bonus for). In total, you need ~135K units to start for microprocessors and eventually another 250K to 300K for wiring looms.
  2. Find your ship and repair it, collecting necessary resources along the way. Take off and head to the nearest ice planet. The ice planets have more things to scan compared to the other planets. Scan as many fauna as you can to try and get the Life In All Its Forms milestone and the second scanner upgrade.
  3. Build your base to finish the next milestone and refine some chromatic metal from the copper you received.
  4. Somewhere between the starting planet and your base planet, repair all but one each of the broken starship and multitool slots to get the Scavenger milestone. You will need the nanites in a minute. The magnetic ferrite and silver are the easiest ones to skip fixing since they are the hardest/most time consuming to get.
  5. Before heading to the space station, install the hyperdrive and build one warp cell. Doing this while at your base ensures you have enough resources without having to backtrack.
  6. Head to the space station and buy the microprocessors to finish the hyperdrive. While you’re here, buy 3 C-class hyperdrive upgrades (buy, save, reload) with the nanites from the Scanveger milestone. These will give you enough range to make every warp except the last one in a single go.
  7. Go to Rendezvous 1-4 and get both the normal and optional milestones, keeping in mind the amount of units you need for wiring looms as you’re scanning.
  8. Somewhere between Rendezvous 1 and 4, you need to find a Traveler grave, get the Indium Drive plans, and install it. The earliest you can do this is on the Rendezvous 1 space station. If you pick the correct option when talking to the Traveler, you should get enough nanites to ask where their grave is (reload if you pick the wrong option). Alternately, if you go into the Anomaly with the milestone selected, you can ask Polo where to find a Traveler.
  9. Travel to Rendezvous 5 and finish the last two milestones. At this point, you should have 6000 quicksilver. Technically, you could finish the full set of milestones to get another 4000 or so quicksilver, but if all you want is the quicksilver it is much faster to just start a new save and go again.
  10. Go to the Anomaly and buy whatever you want from the quicksilver vendor. These items can then be claimed on any other save you want.

The best way to find crashed ships for salvaging parts(guaranteed finding crashed ships)

I haven’t seen a guide for this that explains it good enough, so here we go.

  1. Go to a space station and buy emergency cartographic charts.

  2. Go into space and activate chart. If it reveals anything other than “Distress Beacon” don’t go to it. The charts will only find one building of each type at a time, so leaving an icon for each type will ensure you won’t find any more of those types.

  3. If it reveals a distress beacon, go to it and get just close enough to see if there is an npc pilot. If there is, leave. If there isn’t, congrats you’ve found a claimable ship.

Leaving the distress beacon icon for the npc ship will guarantee the rest of the distress beacons will be claimable ships. So now that have all 4 icons you will only be able to find claimable ships with emergency cartographic data.

It seems that your current location within the system determines what the planetary chart will find(you’ll get a lot of “building of similar type already charted”), so pulse around repeatedly attempting to plot the data until it works.

Using this method you will find ship after ship, and can claim dozens within a short time. Return to the space station, salvage, rinse and repeat. Happy hunting!

Can I create a custom squadron from ships I would be scrapping otherwise?

So here’s what I was thinking. You can hire an NPC to your squadron from any space station for example, right? Now what happens if BEFORE hiring them I buy their ship by swapping it with one of my ships that I would be scrapping otherwise? Will I get THAT ship to join my squadron?

Obviously it depends on the pilot too how well they will do in a fight, but this way I could have a squadron made up of Living Ships or fully equipped Sentinel Interceptors, right? Or, in theory I can claim the Starborn Runner as many times as I want if I’ve finished the expedition, can I just keep selling a Starborn Runner by swapping with them AND hire said pilot equipped with the Starborn Runner now? Can I have a full squadron of them?

I’ll test this out soon with a sentinel that I’d scrap otherwise and get back to you, but if this works I think it is huge, so much potential to create an amazing fight squadron this way!

FREIGHTERS, my newest

I missed out on a lot of great stuff, not playing the first several Expeditions. Here in the NMS Reddits, I saw lots of talk about freighters. Naturally I got curious about them. I chose one, then learned that there are two basic classes of freighters. The very common System Freighters, and there are a bunch to choose from. Then, there are the Capital Freighters. Now comes in three flavors, Sentinel, Venator and Pirate Dreadnought. I have flown in all three, and now, in each of their variations. Though, until today, never even one ‘S’ Class.
I was doing the time pulsing my starship around trying my best to scare up just one Organic Frigate. I went to my Pirate freighters bridge, thought better of taking my Capital ship in first, and short teleported to the Hangar Bay, jumped into a new Sentinel starship, launched, then opened the Galaxy Map. I chose a nearby Pirate controlled system. And, jumped. Arrived smack in the middle of a big battle, with a Pirate Dreadnought attacking a big Venator Resurgent freighter. Aw, why not… I flew right to the rear of the Pirate, shot up all its warp engines, then eased up into the Shield Gen channels, blew all of those out, got the message to go get or destroy the Pirate ship….as usual, ya have to dock in its landing bay just to see what class it is and all that. I did, saw it was a C and that one lost out instantly. I flew out and shot it to bits. Then, just for giggles, I thought to check out that big ol Resurgent. I have two in other saved games, but alas, never an S Class. When I landed, I used F to check the deck for its info. What?! An S class??!! COOL! I exited, called in my Pirate Freighter, landed back in the Resurgent, ran up to the command deck (it’s forward!) (ha!) and I was gonna buy it outright. BUT the game has other ideas. It let me trade mine for this one. Oh gee, a B class loaded up at 193 millions for this S class at 23 millions? HECK YES IT’S A DEAL! Units. Nanites. Quicksilver. I gots them! I now also have a lovely S Class Resurgent level Venator type Freighter! FINALLY! I HAVE ONE! Yeah all it takes is just stumbling on one, lucky as THAT! LOL! Thanks for listening in folks, this was fun!

I finally GOT ONE! Yaaaay ME! :oD
