Tip for farming derelict freighters: put your emergency broadcast receiver in your portable refiner to reuse it
This is known by many of you no doubt but for those who don't know (I didn't up until recently!): Get your weekly emergency broadcast receiver from the Anomaly or buy one from the scrap dealer then head out to space, use it, pulse to the freighter, and tuck it into your refiner while you're opening the door. This will allow you to reuse it again and again. Apparently there's a chance the game might eat it but you should be OK, keep a backup on your freighter (not your person) just in case.
I've been using this method to farm S-class freighter upgrades and it works a treat! If you can resist the urge to loot the freighter you can run straight to the engineering core, grab your upgrade, then dip out and do another search as soon as you take off from the last freighter. Again, I'm sure all of this is not news to you seasoned interlopers but for new folks, this is a great way to pimp your freighter which is a great passive moneymaker once you get your fleet going.
