I can't express how excited I am

I just ordered a used copy of NMS so I can finally have a game to play with friends and family.

I was excited for NMS since it was announced and then because of the bad launch, I didn’t pay any attention to it afterwards. My friend has been bugging me for years to get the game and then eventually I moved somewhere where I couldn’t play games online for a few years, so once again I didn’t pay any attention to it.

With internet once again, I’ve been wanting a game I could get my friend and brother to play, I tried to get them to play Overwatch or ARK but neither of them cared enough to get involved. My friend kept bringing up NMS, so I started bringing it up to my brother because I knew he would love it, we both love space, both loved Minecraft, both loved the idea of ARK, exploring, etc.

After weeks of bothering my brother he bought it at full price and loves it, now he started bothering me about getting it, and after seeing the synth update and watching trailers…I had to buy it.

I cannot wait to have a game to spend time playing with my favorite people, exploring and building and whatever else. Looking at a few posts in this sub and I’m in awe of what’s possible. This might become my favorite game ever (speaking too soon, I know) and I have to give a kudos to Hello Games, the work that has been done with a small team is outlandish in today’s market, I wanna give them all a kiss, chlamydia for everyone!

But seriously, I’m waiting for my package like a little kid waiting for Christmas, I can’t begin to explain how happy I am to finally have a game that gets my friends and family involved.

I’m sorry, but I had to selfishly express myself, I would love to read your stories of your NMS experiences!

From space pirate to accidental billionaire: the expedition bug gave me 4 billions of units

Today, I was wrapping up an expedition and transitioning back to my main save when I encountered something quite funny during the tally of my achievements and the calculation of my earned currency. Here’s the thing: while waiting for the completion of the fifth stage of the expedition, I engaged in piracy, looting a significant number of Gek ships. My relationship with the Geks plummeted to around -500. When it came to calculating achievements, there was a section for relations with alien races, and in this section, my currency earnings took a massive hit due to my poor relations. It turned out that I had earned a total of -1 unit of currency.

I was a bit disheartened and surprised to find that accumulating bad reputation is penalized by the game. However, when I transitioned back to my main save, a surprise awaited me – since I had earned -1 unit, it seems there was an overflow in the game’s unsigned int variable, and I ended up with 4,294,967,295 units in my main save. It was a hilariously unexpected turn of events.

Would Anyone Else Be Down For Crashed Frigate Exploration?

Would Anyone Else Be Down For Crashed Frigate Exploration?

So, Frigates, right?

Most of us have probably not been inside one since we stopped having to repair them, and repairing them wasn’t a lot of fun — just walking around an empty ship until you reach the thing, feed it materials, ship is fixed. It’s incredibly dull, and the moment we all discovered how to prevent ships from taking damage, most of us never wanted to set foot on a frigate again.

Yet the ships themselves are quite interesting. Bridges, ladders, engine rooms, cannons, multiple floors, they have a lot of parts on them, and they’re actually quite nice to look at, they’re just hopelessly empty with nothing to do or interact with on them. The engine rooms alone are pretty badass (and I wish we could jump out of them, but there’s an invisible wall).

Turning them into an activity might be fun though. If you could find crashed frigates, it would be an excuse to utilize these cool ship designs in a way that we might actually appreciate them. Add an enemy or two in them, a malfunctioning Sentinel that goes “boo” when you try to loot a crate, keep us on our toes.

Besides minor rewards like nanites and parts that can sell for units, I would also like to propose two more interesting rewards: once you “finish” the damaged frigate exploration, you would gain either the ability to repair it and add it to your fleet, or to salvage a usable part from it. The salvaged part could be used to modify one of your existing frigates, replacing one of its qualities — so if one of your fleet’s Exploration ships has “Malfunctioning Shield Generators” for -2 combat, maybe you can use a part you salvaged off a crashed Frigate to turn that into “Radar Array” for +4 exploration, letting you keep a ship that you might otherwise have dismissed.
