4.0 thoughts from a 700 hour player.

I read all of the hate, waited a couple of days, and then held my nose and dove in. I station jumped to get more suit tech slots and am mostly back to where I was. My ships took a pretty big hit. I paid and scraped for more slots and am adding trails and bobbleheads to my favorite ship but they’ll never be as OP as they were before. Still fairly invincible though. I shifted from AI to stasis device farming for money a while ago so all good there.

Overall my biggest complaint is still the lack of procedural diversity, an inventory sort button, and listing the galaxy on the discoveries tab/screenshots. I do like the larger stacks and inventories and some of the visual updates. Overall, pretty solid meh. Mostly I just really appreciate the HG team for sticking with this game and continuing to do all this without charging for it.

What would you like to see in the next update?

Would you sacrifice your bases and coordinate locations for an NMS planet update ?

A new planet update may not require anything to change on pre-existing planets. HG could spawn in new planets and systems that coexist alongside what is already there. However, this topic is just meant as thought exorcise for discussion spawned purely out of curiosity.

I love my bases. I’ve spent so many hours designing them, but even more special are their locations. Paradise planets with geography that almost looks hand crafted. Trade Post and Archive within short teleport distance. Runaway Mold farms built to perfection! Some things you find in the game just can’t be replicated.

I would sacrifice it all for a truly next generation update to planets. Refined terrain generation, larger and denser foliage, more base assets to spawn procedural creatures, foliage, etc.., and planets with biome diversity (this could be a rare find. Not every planet).

If it came down to choosing to keep your old bases or sacrificing them for the new world, what would you do? What would you like to see on next gen planets?

Edit: Grammar and getting popcorn

Can I create a custom squadron from ships I would be scrapping otherwise?

So here’s what I was thinking. You can hire an NPC to your squadron from any space station for example, right? Now what happens if BEFORE hiring them I buy their ship by swapping it with one of my ships that I would be scrapping otherwise? Will I get THAT ship to join my squadron?

Obviously it depends on the pilot too how well they will do in a fight, but this way I could have a squadron made up of Living Ships or fully equipped Sentinel Interceptors, right? Or, in theory I can claim the Starborn Runner as many times as I want if I’ve finished the expedition, can I just keep selling a Starborn Runner by swapping with them AND hire said pilot equipped with the Starborn Runner now? Can I have a full squadron of them?

I’ll test this out soon with a sentinel that I’d scrap otherwise and get back to you, but if this works I think it is huge, so much potential to create an amazing fight squadron this way!
