I just want to vent for a minute about how the implementation of expeditions has really harmed my enjoyment of the game, and I find myself playing it a lot less than I used to.

I like the actual expedition content, but the fact that they can only be completed during a specific time period is inimical to the chill explore-and-build-at-your-own-pace vibe that drew me into the game in the first place. They come with time pressure and marketing terms like “for a limited time” and “last chance to get [special thing]”, and it triggers all of the centers in my brain tied to microtransactions and MMO retention tactics, and I hate it.

I know this should be a small thing. And I know I could mod in the items, or muck about with the system clock. It’s not about that.

Edit: So that this isn’t just a whine post – I like the actual expeditions. They’re awesome free content. I just wish they were not on a schedule. If we could launch old ones on our own that would probably fix it for me.
