NMS HOT POST 2022/09/10

I was inspired by my new build, and wanted to create some art to go with it! It is a Halloween themed build, so I’ll share it a little later on… but figured I’d go ahead and share the artwork 🎃🧡

Built a stadium complete with working scoreboards that go from 0 to 99 (Creative mode, Euclid)

https://imgur.com/a/EQESOy6

I designed this to be a fast paced “hockey with guns instead of sticks” type of game. It’s on a low gravity moon for maximum physics kick to the ball.

The scoreboards go from 0-99 but you can actually play to higher scores as the system wraps back to 0 after 99. If a shorter game is desired, just shoot the reset button above either scoreboard display to wipe both scores after you’ve reached your goal to start a new game.

There is a glass bottom platform hovering above surrounding the sphere creator for any spectators/referees. On it is buttons to reset the ball to center court and a switch to override the light sensor (solar panel hooked to an inverter) for the colored lights on the sides of the stadiums if you’d like them on constantly.

If the ball gets fouled (knocked out of the stadium), there are also ball reset buttons on the bottom of the referee platform that can be shot to activate.

Best weapons to have on your multi-tool are mining beam, boltcaster, pulse spitter, and scatter blaster. Each has it’s use.

Weapons to leave behind: plasma launcher (amazingly it usually barely moves the ball), geology cannon (same), and the blaze javelin (fully charged it packs as much punch as a pea shooter to the ball).

The glyphs are in the pics. Hope some of you at least enjoy it and please do let me know if there are any rendering issues or other problems (some parts may lose their custom color.. I had issues with having to “repaint” pieces while building).

Any and all feedback is welcome including ideas for improvement, bugs, frame rate issues, etc. Built it on a PS4 Pro and it runs smooth for me, your milage may vary as it’s pushing the edge of the upload limit.

BTW, this was done without any glitch building techniques, all since Frontiers, with mostly legacy concrete parts (they color nice and don’t have context sensitive weirdness).

Enjoy!

The Green Ark

The Green Ark

I found this beautiful paradise planet at the very outer edge of Euclid (1,159,000 lightyears from the center), with a vast variety of plants and bigger trees, which offers very many of those huge stones (not floating) that seem ideal to build a nice base with a garden.

The garden is full of useful plants. I didn’t grind any just added more resourceful ones. The base has 4 floating landing pads at the top and teleporters to rach the lower part.

I hope you like the architecture and enjoy exploring if you visit some time. And if you like the planet as much as I do, build your own green hideout there, neighbours are very welcome.

What do you think is next for NMS?

With Light No Fire on the horizon, a repeatedly huge game that will probably get a lot of content updates like NMS has, what do you think will come next for NMS?

Of course, my worry is that they will phase out continued support. But, they have added so much at this point that maybe ceasing continued development will be forgiven. We don’t know when the next game is coming out. Maybe we will see a huge final content update with a gameplay overhaul. Something like fully customizable and buildable ships and freighters, a more in-depth reputation system with the ability to engage in combat with NPC’s, on-foot pirate combat, and world’s with multiple biomes.

Then again, maybe the engine just can’t do these things, so perhaps they will eventually come out with a proper sequel?

I don’t know. But what would you folks like to see from NMS or what do you think Hello Games will add moving forward?

I am absolutely blown away by how good this runs on Switch

I’ve got about 2000 hours between Xbox and PC. I bought the Switch version on launch and it was so-so. I mean I didn’t really expect MUCH in the way of performance.

Must have been one of the recent updates, but holy HELL how did the developers do this!? Between game engine optimization and the raw talent of the HG team, I am beside myself.

I don’t want to reach too deep into my pocket full of dreams but I hope Light No Fire comes to Switch as well. I was literally about to sell my OLED last week until I fired up NMS again.
