NMS HOT POST 2022/10/7

Hundreds of hours of module farming lost in a single update.

Idiot's guide for earning units in the early game of NMS.

I wrote this as a reply to someone asking me how to earn the big bucks. I got carried away and I thought, why not post it as a new post so that others can see it. It wouldn’t hurt right?

Anyways, there’s a few routes that I use depending on the items that already I have. first route needs the ability to destroy sentinel ships. If you can fight, use this. If not, use the other route.

Route 1 starts here: Go to space to fight Sentinel ships until level 5 then destroy the Sentinel Freighter. You’ll get a carrier AI fragment. The important bit here is the Carrier AI Fragment. If you have this already, then you’re all set.

Use the fragment and warp to wherever it’s telling you to go to. After the warp, you’ll be in a Dissonant System. This means there’s at least 1 Dissonant planet in this system. The AI Fragment you used will guide you to a crashed sentinel ship. (If you know how to find Populated Dissonant Systems then you can skip fighting the Sentinel Freighter and just go to a Dissonant Planet).

If you used the Carrier AI Fragment, go to the marker to pick up your Sentinel Ship. Interact with the ship and grab the items there including the Hyalin Brain. You’ll also see a section where you need items to activate the ship. Take note of them. Now in your inventory, use the Hyalin brain. Follow the prompts to activate the brain and convert it into a Harmonic Brain. That’s 1/3 of the item requirements to activate the ship.

Route 2 starts here. If you know how to find a Dissonant system/planet. Go there and land. You have 2 choices here, 1st choice is combat. Fight 5 waves of corrupted sentinels. After the fight, pick up the combat supplies (use your analysis visor if you can’t remember where they dropped). The last one you pick up will guide you to a sentinel ship. Pick up the Hyalin Brain, and activate it.

If you don’t want to fight then just keep shooting Dissonance Resonator and Radiant Shards. Then just run when corrupted sentinels see you doing it. We need A bunch of radiant shards and Inverted Mirrors from them. But most importantly, Echo Locators. Echo locators drop from killing corrupted sentinels and opening the salvaged glass you get from them or from destroying Dissonance Resonators (25% chance, I think).

Now that you have a bunch of Radiant Shards, Inverted Mirrors, a couple of Echo Locators. It’s time to start Farming in earnest.

Use an echo locator to find a Harmonic Camp. In the camp, do the puzzle to unlock the terminal. You can also unlock the Multi Tool cabinet for that sweet Sentinel MT. In the terminal, you can find “Dissonant Spikes”. This is what we need here. Setup a base in this camp, or just drop a save beacon so you can find your way back to it.

Follow the dissonant spike to find a downed sentinel ship. Take the Hyalin Brain (and other items). Use the brain and follow the prompts to convert it into a Harmonic Brain. Go back to the ship, and use 3 radiant shards + 1 inverted mirror + 1 Harmonic Brain to claim the Sentinel Ship.

After you claim the Sentinel Ship. Jump back into your main ship and go back to the camp. Search for another Dissonant Spike and do it again. Rinse and Repeat, until either the camp does not give you anything else when you search for Dissonant Spikes or it just points you to a crash site you’ve already been to before. If this happens and you’re still not done with farming, then use another Echo locator to find another camp in the same planet.

Once you have all the ships you can manage (we have 12 ship slots), fly to the space station and SCRAP THEM SHIPS!

Each Sentinel ship when scrapped will give you items worth 15M at least per ship. That’s for a C class. If you scrapped an A class, you may get up to 40M worth of sellable items. That does not include the modules you can sell for nannites as well as storage upgrade modules so you can add inventory to your main ship.

During the current expedition, I saw one of the planets in the spawn system is Dissonant, I went and farmed ships for about 1 hour to an hour and a half. In that time, I earned 240M units and around 3 – 4k nannites I think.

TL/DR: Farm Sentinel Ships in Dissonant Planets.

Hope this helps some people. 😀

A Recovering Addict's Travels through No Man's Sky (Part 3)

Hello, all! It’s good to be back and posting. I got back from visiting my friends pretty late last night, and there was a lot of driving that I had to do to get back, so I ended up crashing in bed before I could get online! I was really itching to play today, though, and got on pretty much as soon as I got home from work, and binged a few hours of game-time. Lots of really exciting stuff happened today, and I’m truly glad to have so many fine people following along on my journey! I’ll likely say this every time, but seriously, thank you all so much for your support. I make sure to read every comment and message, and I’m glad that my writing has been able to help so many other people.

Today, I was a spaceman on a mission. I was going to get off-planet and finally explore this system. Looking up from the irradiated ground of Az Kaban, I searched the skies, looking for any heavenly bodies, but my efforts remained fruitless. Oddly enough, there ended up being several other planets in my star system, but I just happened to be at the right place on my planet to not be able to see any of them! I cobbled together a Portable Refiner and began to refine the materials to repair my ship, and also mined some Uranium from the rocks around my makeshift campsite, as I figured out that I could use it to fuel part of my ship, in a pinch. After a few minutes of work, I had my launch thrusters repaired, and set off into the final frontier.

And man, this game doesn’t disappoint. This wasn’t my first time experiencing space travel in this game, as I did play it a bit on launch, so I had an idea of what to expect, but the view was still incredibly breathtaking. There were several other planets floating somewhat close-together far in the distance, and one of them even had rings, which I’ll get back to later in this journal. A strange transmission came across my screen, directing me to a crashed satellite on a nearby Hyperborean planet. After activating my pulse engine (the third person view of this is seriously insane. WOW!), and a few seconds of travel, I landed on the planet. The original name of the planet was “Nokaric,” and I honestly thought that sounded really cool, so I went ahead and registered that as the permanent name. Despite the temperature being colder than -50 degrees Celsius, Nokaric was an incredibly beautiful world. I’ve always appreciated the stark beauty of winter, and this planet demonstrates multiple aspects of winter quite well. At night, the world is a place of calm, dark blue hues and gentle winds, and during the day, the ground is bright and almost shining in the sunlight, and small hints of life peak through the snow.

I adventured around the planet for a good while, finding some old boxes and gear, scanning the flora and fauna of the planet, and eventually made my way to a crashed satellite, which the mysterious signal had directed me to. I gained some new technology from this satellite, one of which was the Base Computer! I had heard that the base building in this game was pretty extensive, and I was really looking forward to building my own base (or two!) in this universe. I saved the plans for later, and after some more exploring, found a hyperdrive upgrade module in another crashed satellite a few hills over. This looks really valuable, so I’m saving it for later in case I want to use it on a better ship. I learned some of the Korvax language from a weird stone tablet I found also. I wonder if they can get that on Duolingo?

Anyhow, I finally left Nokaric to check out the other worlds in my star system. I landed next on a very rainy planet – the system called it an “Endless Morass.” Not entirely sure what it means, but the planet was seriously cool. High cliffs and small flora made this planet feel like I was on perhaps one of the British Isles, and the rain and fog definately contributed to that feeling. I ended up naming this planet as “Naiadia,” after the greek name for their river goddesses, due to how much water there was on the planet. I also met my first real alien on this planet! Shortly after entering the atmosphere, I noticed a metal structure similar to ones I had seen before. They even had a landing pad, which I ended up using to dock my ship. When I went inside, there was a Korvax manning a technology blueprint stand, as well as his friend, who was moving about inside the base, tending to the plants and making sure the technology was all in working order. After a poor attempt at conversation, my new Korvax friends sold me a blueprint for a teleport receiver (I think), and I sold my cobalt and some other goods to the galactic trade module embedded in the far wall of the station. The rain was absolutely tanking my framerate, however, so I went on my way after not too long.

The last thing I did today was stop at the ringed planet. This was a garden planet, with sunshine, grass, forests, cliffs, and beaches that looked like something out of Super Mario Sunshine. An incredibly gorgeous place, truly. I soon learned that the local wildlife was not as friendly to me as on other planets, as some medium sized animals soon began to make their presence known. Thankfully, it doesn’t seem like they travel in packs, so I never had to worry about more than one chasing me at a time. I snapped a lot of pictures here. I ended up ending my adventures for the day here, after naming the planet Alethia. The word is greek for “truth,” I think, which I find appropriate in some ways to my own personal journey, outside of the game. That, and I think it sounds really pretty anyhow. I plan on exploring the rest of the planets in the system next time, and hopefully choosing one to build my base on. I think I would eventually like to build bases on all of the planets in my star system (yes, even Az Kaban), just to really make it feel more like home, but we’ll see. If you’re still with me, thanks for reading along!

Leaving Az Kaban for good (Look at the cool patterns on the surface!)

The best minerals to Mine and Refine

Until now I discovered that The best 2 minerals for mining are, GOLD + SILVER + OXIGEN because with them you can refine all the others:

  • Platinum ← Gold + Silver
  • Chromatic Metal x20 ← Gold + Silver + Copper/Cadmium/Emeril/Indium
  • Pyrite x2 ← Gold + Oxígen
  • Ferrite Dust x1← Pyrite
  • Basalt ← Pyrite + Magnetized Ferrite
  • Paraffinium ← Silver + Oxigen
  • Ammonia ←Paraffinum + Ferrite Dust
  • Dioxite ← Ammonia + Ferrite Dust
  • Phosphorus ←Dioxite + Ferrite Dust
  • Uranium ← Phosphorus + Ferrite Dust
  • Condensed Carbon ← Uranium + Hydrogen
  • Many more….

That’s all you can refine with Gold and Silver, Do you know a better combination? 🙂

By the way , you can get unlimited amount of the following minerals just by mining OXIGEN and using this redundant recipes:

  • Chlorine X5 ←Chlorine x1 + Oxígen x2
  • Salt x2 ← Chlorine

Inventory managment

I need help. Either Hello Game releases 10 new storage units, or I do a mayor clean up and find a more efficient way to manage my inventory.

The suit is maxed out. I carry 1 small stack of more or less everything I might need, bar trading items, moduls and the likes. So I got some room there that is needed for crafting devises, going on collection runs, etc.

I really only use one ship that is maxed out and emptied whenever. There is a garage with my “first” of types, and some that keeps changing. But I have drifted away from using ships actively as storage units and changing between them depending on needs.

The freighter is maxed out A class, and emptied out whenever gathering or frigates has filled it up.

The storage units are sorted into categories like utilities, mining, gas, farming, valuables for sale, stasis device crafting, suit moduls, weapon moduls, ship moduls and exo modules.

But they are all full and overflow seeps from one into another. And now as I am collecting ship parts this needs to be dealt with.

My initial idea is to reduce the number of moduls. Nothing is min-max fully, neither suit, tools or ships. I have all the slots, but maybe not every modul for it. But it’s such a pain to do on the controller, and I kill everything with what I got so haven’t bothered yet.

Ships and weapons change, and those modules can be needed in the future, but units full of moduls for exo crafts I never use, and a suit that I probably won’t change bar an update gets me some room. But I like to collect, and might run out again soon.

So. What do everyone need to hold on to, what should one clear out all the time, and how do you manage your items and storage?
