NMS HOT POST 2022/11/29

Welcome to the new daily FAQ thread for NMSTG! You can now drop a question, provide answers or just submit a tip that you’ve found helpful along the way. We hope this helps our valued OP’s get the most out of the game. See comments for more details.

Below are a few popular questions that we've received from our past FAQ thread. As always we ask that everyone be respectful and we welcome everyone's contribution so have fun!

Q- I'm keen to start a new passive money making pursuit. What are some good ideas or guides post-Waypoint?

A#1-Gold farm, then take that stack and sell it at a terminal (not traders) in systems that sell gold. Sell all your gold to the terminal and crash the economy. Then buy it all back at 80% off discount. You just got free money and keep all the gold. All this takes is an initial investment on a gold farm, then you carry all that gold with you and just sell/buy back when you get to another system that sells gold. With 50 stacks in my ship's cargo hold, I can make somewhere around 150 million units in each system I do this in.

A#2-Start a Farm, Fusion Igniters or Statis Devices Farm which will increase your profits to 100- 200 mil fairly quickly and you can even send out multiple freighter missions which will help you get aronium, magno-gold, Enriched carbon and more which will increase the profits even more.

A#3-Quickest way I've found to make a TON of units: Harvesting Storm Crystals. Find a VERY hot planet that has frequent fire storms. DURING STORMS ONLY – you can see the bright white light from Storm Crystals if you fly around low enough. Fly to them, land, quickly harvest them, get back in your ship and fly to the next before you burn up.

Q-How do I get the Advanced Mining Laser? I don't have the option to craft one, and the multi-tool upgrade vendor at the space station doesn't have the blueprint for sale.

A-In order to get it, you have to look for the blueprints in crashed ships or abandoned facilities. You get it from the main story (awakenings) or you can buy it on the anomaly.

Q-What do I actually do in the game? I finished the tutorial, is there anything else beside gathering stuff, building a base and repeat?

A#1-It’s really whatever you want, there’s a base story, (assuming you haven’t completed it already), follow the quest log and you’ll figure it out, but things You’d want to do for end game? You can collect multiple multitools, ships, built a fleet for your freighter, etc.

Q-Is there a planet that is populated by many players, and they built their base close to each others like a city?

A- Yeah its the Galactic Hub Project, Its a place where many people have bases and each day the numbers grow. Please help yourself. There are many factions in NMS that do this, even NMS Pirates Hub.

Q-I'm still pretty early into the game, just making my way to the center of the galaxy, what should I be spending my credits on?

A-Go hang around a outlaw/pirate trading post. Cheapest S-class start at around 8-8.5 million without a trade-in. I recommend Vikeen pirate, as then you have two good and 1 remote chances at high-maneuverability S-class: fighter, solar, exotic.

Do Certain Activities Become Pointless When Money is Easy? Becoming Bored.

I have 80 hrs in the game and have loved it. I think I’m hitting a wall though. I’m starting to feel like money is no longer an issue, and I’m becoming bored. ** **I’ve been doing several things to earn money, to get things I am looking forward to (more frigates, ships, etc). I’ve been trading, buying plants/materials for cheap to make and sell more expensive products, scanning things on planets (with scanner upgrade that gives a ton of money), using distress signal maps to find downed ships to sell, etc.

I’ve reached the point now where I have a freighter I’m happy with, plenty of frigates (though I plan to buy a few more, for about 8 mil units), 2 S class solar sails and S class explorer, and an A class fighter. I do plan on getting a good S class hauler, fighter, and hopefully some exotics. These are expensive, sure, but I’m currently at 130 mil units, and feel like money is getting easy to make between high end products, millions for trade goods with less than an hour’s work, frigate missions, etc. Let alone when my settlement finally comes online.

A lot of my favorite things are becoming boring. Waiting at a trading post to buy cheap trading goods and plant products because pointless. Frigate missions have some interesting items but usually I just sell the items, so these become less valuable. Missions that award credits (and much less than I can make in the same amount of time) feel like a waste of time.

Not trying to be cynical, but just explaining the situation I’m in. I love this game and want to keep playing and enjoying it, but my motivation and interest is hitting a wall as I feel like I’m reaching the point where money is not an issue and I can get everything I want, which leaves nothing left to work for.

Anyone deal with this situation? Am I missing some context? Are there other big purchase things I can try to get?

.

TL;DR: money is getting super easy to get, which feels like I’ve reached the end game, and I’m becoming bored. With so much money I can buy anything it feels like, which means I have nothing to work forward to. Anyone deal with this? Is there something I’m missing? Are there expensive things to look forward to besides ships?

No wonder every freighter owner wants to sell you their ship

Freighter fleets are worse than having pets or kids.

Unless you are just using your freighter as a god-awful expensive floating garage, your fleet needs constant attention. They always need fuel for frigates. They’re always asking for permission to go out. Every other fleet in the galaxy has strays giving you the doe-eyes asking for you to adopt them. And they’re always coming home with random shit you don’t want.

The other day, I was out mining asteroids for tritium. AYFKM? I have A- and S- class upgrades for my pulse engine. I haven’t had to actively mine tritium in I don’t know how long. I get enough incidentally just from shooting asteroids that are in my way. But frigate fuel requires it 1:1 with di-hydrogen, and if the local system isn’t selling it then you gotta go gather it the old-fashioned way.

Freighter fleets are always warping into the middle of asteroid fields. They are surrounded by tritium, there are whole crews in each of my fleet’s ships, but I’m the one who has to go get it.

Freighters these days, geeze. They just have no respect.

How many bases do you have? Really though?

I have developed the habit of constantly building bases on any planet that interests me, even a little bit. I almost never return to most of them, except to avoid lengthy travel or to harvest a resource when I can’t find enough in trade. I think I have twenty-five or more bases now. Should I delete them and try to just keep one base? How many bases do you have and/or use regularly? Edit: autocorrect
