What are some new things you’ve learned after so much play?

I've played the game off and on for years now. And I'm still finding that I'm learning new things. I'm sure there are features I'm missing. Here are some new things I've learned. How about you?

  1. Exocraft mining lasers can be used on ore deposits.
  2. You can upgrade living ship modules with nanites to S-class.
  3. Linking supply depots together creates a larger, unified storage (I was asking myself where I find bigger depot storage containers).
  4. You can mine a planet's surface with your starship.
  5. You can throw creature food pellets around you. Useful in caves when searching for elusive underground fauna.

What's the smartest thing you've ever done in game?

I saw another post about the stupidest, and was wondering what your best plays in this game have been? For me, it was on an expedition, where I ran out of life support gel on a mountain planet, and my ship was 15 minutes away from me. I realised that I was going to die far before I reached it, so I intentionally triggered a sentinel raid, and killed a few sentinels every minute. This let me recharge my shields consistently from the drops in combat, so despite constantly dying from having no oxygen, I was able to get to my ship safely.

What’s your story for the smartest thing you’ve done?
