First ever exhibition – 8hrs 44mins

First ever exhibition - 8hrs 44mins

I never knew about exhibitions until it was mentioned yesterday, so I thought I would give it a go. This ship is amazing. Not the best starter build but I am going turn it into a monster 💪🏻 Totally worth the exhibition

So When Were You All Going to Tell Me Oxygen is Basically Witchcraft?

I’ve kind of hit that point where I don’t need money anymore. The frigates are making their routes, I’ve made a couple Stasis Chambers and Fusion Igniters from gas I collected on various ventures, more money and nanites than I frankly think anyone should have, time to explore the stuff I missed.

One thing that bugged me is that refiners had up to three slots, but I never actually used more than 1. I kept it in the back of my mind, thinking the game would give me a recipe or something, but it never quite happened.

A few nights ago, I’m setting up gas farms — silly me, I’ve been getting my Radon from Atmosphere Harvesters instead of Gas Extractors, so I’m learning the ins and outs of getting gas. Here I thought the planet I was on just gave Oxygen, but nope, I can get others too. Whatever, it’s kind of nice having a fat stack of Oxygen, even if it’s kind of useless, so for a few days I go shove Oxygen in a refiner and turn it into Carbon. Neat, Carbon’s not rare, but with a stack of it coming in every day, I can fuel machines and build structures.

My Sulpherine farm is going well, great for producing Nitrogen Salt at 250 Sulpherine and 50 Condensed Carbon each (created from Oxygen), but I don’t have a proper Radon farm up. On a misclick, I put Sulpherine in the crafting menu and… cool, I can turn 3 Sulpherine into 1 Radon. I’m curious though, so I google Sulpherine for more info, and…

Neat! Sulpherine plus one Oxygen makes a Radon! I have too much Oxygen anyways, this is great, I don’t need to expand the Sulpherine farm by four, doubling it is enough and I’ll have my Radon supply. I follow the link, and it turns out I can do the same with Radon: One Radon plus one Oxygen into one Nitrogen. Neat! Maybe I can make more Nitrogen Salt now.

But I’m looking at the bottom of the page for Nitrogen Salt and there’s a new recipe I don’t recognize. It doesn’t say 250 Nitrogen and 50 Condensed Carbon, it says 100 Nitrogen, 10 Condensed Carbon, and 10 salt make a Nitrogen Salt. Wait, that’s not in the crafting menu — I mean it makes sense, Nitrogen Salt, but still, wow, I guess this is what those 3 refiner slots are for, improving the efficiency of making things like Nitrogen Salt. Well shoot, I better get my hands on some Salt.

I keep reading: I can make Salt from Chlorine, one Chlorine makes two Salt, so Chlorine is effectively my Salt supply. Oh but look, I can also make Chlorine from Chlorine and… Oxygen? Hold up, a Chlorine and an Oxygen makes two Chlorine? What?

Witchcraft.

So I go on an experimentation binge with Oxygen.

Carbon plus Carbon makes a condensed Carbon. Two Carbon plus Two Oxygen makes five condensed Carbon, a freebie pops out of nowhere.

Salt and Salt makes a Chlorine. Two Salt and Two Oxygen make five Chlorine. This is on top of Chlorine and Oxygen making two Chlorine.

I can duplicate materials with Oxygen!?

Okay, what about Pyrite? Pyrite plus Oxygen creates… Cactus Flesh? I figured since a Gold turns into a Pyrite I could turn it back into Gold, but that’s okay. On a whim though, I try Gold plus Oxygen and… yep, two Pyrite come out instead of one.

So Oxygen is basically witchcraft: in many cases it can duplicate another material or improve the exchange rate when you throw it in a refiner. Here I’ve been burning it to make Carbon when I can literally add it to Carbon to get more Carbon.

Love the game, but it needs depth!

To start with this “rant”, I must say that I’m a big fan of No Mans Sky and its redemotion story. Its the game that I play when I want to chill and relax.

That being said, its time for Hello Games to add depth to its systems! There are so many great systems in game, but a lot of it seems pointless. Here are some examples about how things could connect with each other and gives a better sense of progression throughout the journey:

Food / recipes: there is a entire recipes system, with amazing combinations, common and rare. For what? A few seconds buffs that are useless and maybe some selling potential. This system could improve survival mechanics and companions. Meaningful buffs to better explore a hazard planet. Companions that can only be tamed with certain food and so on.

Settlements: neat concept, meaningless rewards. There could be resources that are only available through settlements. Settlements through different races could provide exclusive resources and cosmetics as you upgrade them. Like a resource needed for a ship or exosuit upgrade, for example.

Ships: resistance upgrades could be available so that you can enter “dense” atmosphere planets. Im not a space specialist (as you can see), but the idea is that some rare kind of planets could be “locked” until you have a specific upgrade equipped on your ship. Its the same concept of the hyperdrive upgrades so that you can travel to different colors stars.

Vehicles: Nautilus could be used to reach certain depth on seas, not possible swimming. Extremely hazard planets could only be explored with minotaurs, and so on.

Derelict Freighters: due to its hazard nature, could only be acessible with specific exosuit upgrade. It could provide exclusive resources too, like I said about settlements above.

Well, these are some of the ideas at the top of my head, but we could go on and on about this.

Any thoughts about it?

New Ship Perk Suggestions

Long ago, NMS only allowed players to own a single ship, making it a major decision on which ship type a traveler should go after. However, realizing this felt clunky, updates have been made over the years, ship slots increased, new tech modules, and new features added. This was a great call, but it did leave one mark: the distinctions between each ship didn’t matter anymore; Haulers don’t even have the benefit of additional cargo space, since all S-class ships can have the same total number of slots.

I was talking ship perks with someone, and it got me thinking that perhaps it would make sense to introduce new strengths to less used ship types. As I was mulling it over, I realized that some of these changes would have to be pretty potent to stand up to current-day standards — poor Shuttles, their only real signature is that their takeoff price is reduced, made obsolete by the auto-recharge modules. So I decided to spitball a few ideas trying to stay true to the ship’s purpose while taking 2024 NMS in mind, and see if the following suggestions are strong enough to make you think “oh yeah, I’d definitely want to own a [ship type].”

Shuttles:

  1. 25% faster flight speed than others while in-atmosphere.
  2. 100% faster Pulse Drive speed.
  3. Takeoffs and landings are quicker and snappier.

Haulers:

  1. Cargo slots are double-sized, just like Freighters and storage containers.
  2. One storage augmentation slot unlocks two slots when used to unlock cargo slots.
  3. When the Teleport Receiver is installed, Hauler item teleport range is unlimited within the same star system.

Living:

  1. Increased chance of finding Space Encounters while pulsing. Alien Traders completely removed from encounter pool (Frequency 12 > 0). Odds of Rogue Black Hole and Relic Gate events tripled (Frequency 1 > 3).
  2. Eating food while in a ship refuels the ship’s hyper drive, pulse drive, launch thrusters, and damaged shields.

Explorer:

  1. Scanning one planet scans every planet in the system.
  2. Hyperdrive chain jumps. When setting a waypoint on the galactic map, can directly jump to that waypoint as long as the Explorer would have enough fuel to reach there, or up to 5 jumps (aka 5x listed hyperdrive range).

Let me know if these are along the right lines, and whether you’d fly one of these if they had these perks.

Just a Quick Appreciation

While I struggle with anxiety so it is difficult for me to egg myself into the multiplayer scene in the game, I just have to applaud ALL of you guys. This is the most non-toxic gaming community I think I’ve ever seen and I have been a gamer for a goood…
