New space combat is terrifying

I've played this game on and off for years, have great A and and S grade upgrades and yet my bird gets taken down in seconds. It doesn't help that the new AI apparently maneuvers unrealistically well and has regenerating shields. Used to take them forever to blow through my shield, I got warped into a fight through a black hole and didn't even have time to react much. First death ever on this save.

Am I doing something wrong? Are there new upgrades I don't know about?

Derelict Freighters

Just did my first derelict freighter mission after hemming and hawing over spending 5 million units to buy the map. The tainted scrap is a questionable reward for that, but man oh man, that was a thrilling adventure.

I started it last night and was eventually forced to abandon the mission partway through, but reloaded that save in the morning and completed the whole freighter with less mess than before (only busted open one alien mass). My little Gek traveller wasn’t ready for that level of space horror!

Great, great game. Which is giving me more and more of a fear of mold…
