NMS HOT POST 2023/10/28

Two Questions:

1st – Does anyone actually fly an Explorer? Is there a reason to flying an Explorer? I can see the merit to flying a Hauler, when you're doing a trade route. You can pack a whole lot more commodities into its hull, making for greater profit. And, obviously, the Fighter lets you kill things faster.

As I understand it, the Exotics and Solars are basically improved Fighters, but are harder to find. And I presume Sentinel ships are similarly so. So, I can see good reason to fly a Fighter (or Fighter "variant") frequently, given how often space battles happen.

But, is there a real benefit to using an Explorer? I get that they have a bonus to the distance they can warp, but… is that actually worth while? With a few mods, any other ship seems to get a pretty respectable distance, too. If I warp into a system and suddenly find myself in a battle that I want to take part in, can my Explorer still compete (assuming I've got adequate weapons and mods installed) or am I forced to find a space station, teleport home, swap ships, and then teleport back if I want to fight something… which, obviously, likely means the fight is over when I get back.

Or is the only purpose to flying an Explorer skipping systems and covering extensive distances quickly i.e. warp to furthest system, arriving, then immediately repeating the process x number of times, without stopping. What about the Freighter? I feel like a ship that size should have a hefty distance it can travel, but I've never fiddled with them much so I don't know the extent of their warping capabilities.

2nd – Is there ANY other, more efficient way of farming Di-Hydrogen and/or Tritium? Or is manually grinding it for an hour the only method? Yes, I'm aware Di-Hydrogen can be crafted into Jelly and then crafted back into DH for a profit, but, considering the time it takes to do so, for the amount gained, I see grinding it a far more efficient method. Is there no collector that can be used to farm these two vital resources?

Why wiring looms are a secretly disguised monopoly.

We’ve all experienced this, you’re in the heat of battle! 20 sentinels are attacking you, you defeat them but a piece of technology in your suit broke. Of course the first thing you would like to do is repair it with readily available materials…. WRONG! The technology, like 90% of the technologies require the un-craftable, dreaded ”wiring loom”. You need to return to a space station and buy them for the hundredth time. Of course, they’re one of the most expensive items in the terminal… and the terminals are the ONLY way to get them.

Why can’t we craft them? Obviously they’re most likely trade-marked by some gigantic space company that refuses to share the blueprints, therefore artificially inflating the products price and its demand. One real life example of this is coca-cola, their recipe is heavily guarded and any competitor that tries to replicate it is slightly off, making the coca-cola a one in a million product, sky-rocketing the demand. Wiring looms are extremely expensive due to this, we can’t make them ourselves. Whoever is behind making them KNOWS this and artificially increases the price, way over the manufacturing cost.

A Lost Traveller

It has been over 7 years since we first picked up the game together. We traveled thousands of light-years and saw many beautiful and dangerous worlds. We became rich. We became powerful. We became brothers. The last 7 months of traveling through the cosmos alone has been empty. You weren’t just a fellow traveler. You were my best friend. I will never stop exploring and seeking new discoveries but I would trade everything we gained to have you back for just a moment. I miss you Trent. You were my brother. All I can hope is that this is simply the end of this iteration and that you’ll be able to see the wonders of the universe first hand without the need for a screen. I love you and I miss you my friend. Rest in peace.

PSA: If you will add a biofuel reactor to your base, I'll fuel it when I visit....

Nothing more frustrating than teleporting into a base for, say some quick Mould, and having to fly to space, dock with the station, and teleport back home.

If folks would add a reactor just in case things go south on their power supply, I have zero problem fueling the reactor with some Carbon while I’m there

I just thought about this because I’m on one of the planets with every glyph, and I keep running into bases with no power. I’ll hook ya up, it’s only fair. 😁
