NMS HOT POST 2023/12/30

Thinking about getting this game for the first time. How is the experience in 2023 as a diehard space fanatic??

Welcome to the new daily Q&A thread for NMSTG! You can now drop a question, provide answers or j...

Below are a few popular questions that we’ve received from our past FAQ thread. As always we ask that everyone be respectful and we welcome everyone’s contribution so have fun!

Q- I’m keen to start a new passive money making pursuit. What are some good ideas or guides post-Waypoint?

A#1-Gold farm, then take that stack and sell it at a terminal (not traders) in systems that sell gold. Sell all your gold to the terminal and crash the economy. Then buy it all back at 80% off discount. You just got free money and keep all the gold. All this takes is an initial investment on a gold farm, then you carry all that gold with you and just sell/buy back when you get to another system that sells gold. With 50 stacks in my ship’s cargo hold, I can make somewhere around 150 million units in each system I do this in.

A#2-Start a Farm, Fusion Igniters or Statis Devices Farm which will increase your profits to 100- 200 mil fairly quickly and you can even send out multiple freighter missions which will help you get aronium, magno-gold, Enriched carbon and more which will increase the profits even more.

A#3-Quickest way I’ve found to make a TON of units: Harvesting Storm Crystals. Find a VERY hot planet that has frequent fire storms. DURING STORMS ONLY – you can see the bright white light from Storm Crystals if you fly around low enough. Fly to them, land, quickly harvest them, get back in your ship and fly to the next before you burn up.

Q-How do I get the Advanced Mining Laser? I don’t have the option to craft one, and the multi-tool upgrade vendor at the space station doesn’t have the blueprint for sale.

A-In order to get it, you have to look for the blueprints in crashed ships or abandoned facilities. You get it from the main story (awakenings) or you can buy it on the anomaly.

Q-What do I actually do in the game? I finished the tutorial, is there anything else beside gathering stuff, building a base and repeat?

A#1-It’s really whatever you want, there’s a base story, (assuming you haven’t completed it already), follow the quest log and you’ll figure it out, but things You’d want to do for end game? You can collect multiple multitools, ships, built a fleet for your freighter, etc.

Q-Is there a planet that is populated by many players, and they built their base close to each others like a city?

A- Yeah its the Galactic Hub Project, Its a place where many people have bases and each day the numbers grow. Please help yourself. There are many factions in NMS that do this, even NMS Pirates Hub.

Q-I’m still pretty early into the game, just making my way to the center of the galaxy, what should I be spending my credits on?

A-Go hang around a outlaw/pirate trading post. Cheapest S-class start at around 8-8.5 million without a trade-in. I recommend Vikeen pirate, as then you have two good and 1 remote chances at high-maneuverability S-class: fighter, solar, exotic.

Ship Hunting and Salvaging: A Sentinel Ship Guide to how they Spawn to help farm the perfect ship fo...

Ship Hunting and Salvaging: A Sentinel Ship Guide to how they Spawn to help farm the perfect ship for you!

I believe its time to use documented proof to show definitively how Sentinel Ship Spawning actually works and show off how you can use that knowledge to your advantage. For today’s documentation I could not spare the time to find a Wild S class spawned ship so instead I simply grabbed one from the Coordinate Exchange as the basis for my research. Credit where credit is due, here is the link to the post I used by sedatedsashquatch

The Ship We Shall Experiment On Today

For this experiment I found 4 copies of this ship on the same planet. I wanted to get one of each Class Rating but was not able to and ended up with 2 B Class instead. Here are the 4 ships I found, I forgot to record the coordinates for one of the B-Class. NOTE that ALL ships that spawn in the system will be the same ship design. If you want a different design you must SWAP SYSTEMS. 1 Sentinel Ship design per System!

Here is Decisive proof of my 4 finds with coordinates to 3 of them. The names listed in the repair screen are INCORRECT

Here is documentation of what the ships looked like internally right after I claimed them with the correctly updated name. Likely a bug that the names change right now might be related to them being buildings.

With the ships claimed they update to show their TRUE NAME which is Salvaged-a

From here I renamed each of the ships. For clarity the pictures have the ships always in the same tiles so you can easily compare picture to picture. The S class was renamed to Wild S, The 1st B class become Wild Bv1, the 2nd B class became Wild Bv2, and the A-Class became Wild-Av1. Now lets look at their Supercharged slots.

As you can see here EACH of the 4 ships has its own unique Super Charged Layout

With this information we can decisively prove that the Super Charged Layout of Sentinel Ships is NOT SEEDED to the System. I have managed to claim the same ship at the same crash site in my own worlds multiple times and they always have the same Super Charged slots in each crash location. This means that the CRASH LOCATION determines the Super Charged Layout. This is similar to how Multi-tool Supercharge Slots work!

This information means that if you find a GREAT ship you CAN farm it on that planet to try and find one with a better Supercharged Layout.

Next I will prove decisively that the CORE stats of each ship is SEEDED on upgrades and that you will ALWAYS get the same CORE stats from NON-WILD ships.

Here we can see that the two B-Class Ships have identical CORE stats upon being claimed and file reloaded at the space station

Here we can see that the two Wild B-Class Ships have the same Identical A-Class core but the Wild-A Class has minutely higher damage and shields.

And finally we have the 4 ships compared at S-Class rating. All 3 of the ships that were upgraded have IDENTICAL CORE stats. The WILD S however has a slightly better shield and a much better Damage rating.

CONCLUSION

  1. All Sentinel Ships in a system have the SAME NAME, SAME UPGRADE CORE, AND SAME APPEARANCE
  2. ALL Sentinel Ships have IDENTICAL CORE when upgraded! Their STARTING STATS and CLASS are irrelevant
  3. Sentinel Ship Super Charge Layout is determined by the CRASH LOCATION so we can FARM FOR BETTER SC on any given ship! HUGE WIN.
  4. The SC layout is not determined in ANY WAY by the crashed ships WILD RATING, this means that a C-Class can have better Super Charged Slots than a Wild S-Class its ENTIRELY RANDOM.
  5. It is UNKNOWN is Wild S ships spawn with a higher chance at a good CORE or if this particular ship is just LUCKY. It may take hundreds of samples to make even a basic conclusion on this!

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

I’ve noticed that a HUGE number of people are having problems finding their Sentinel Ships in the first place! Particularly and issues with Dissonant systems not spawning ships. This happens on planets that are Corrupted Sentinel and of the Dead/Exotic/Paradise types! Those systems should always be avoided.

When I warp into a Dissonant system I use my Freighter to scan all the planets and see what type spawned the Corrupted Sentinels if it has one of those world types I just warp to a new system as there will not be ships there. You can use the Resonance map from space and if it gives you an error about interference you know FOR SURE there are no ships or Multi-tools in that system!

Also some people are having problems with their Sentinel Space Combat. If you are near a space station they will spawn FOREVER you must get sufficiently far away. Also you cannot raise the Alert level in a Pirate system so don’t use those systems!

Hopefully this information completely clears up any confusion on how Sentinel Ships spawn and how to find them, but if you have further questions you can post them below for investigation!

Is it time for another "Terrain Generation" update?

Hello Games and No Man’s Sky have been exceptional at providing so many lovely content updates since launch. And they’ve updated so many visual components as well…but mainly relegated to improving and adding to assets that already exist in the game. Flora, Fauna, Lasers, VFX, space whales etc. etc.

But relatively few of the “beauty” updates with the notable exceptions of NEXT and (edit) ORIGINS. have touched on improving terrain creation.

I can’t help but think that these kind of fundamental updates are being avoided, as to not hurt the base building components of the game.

Do you feel this has become a log jam that is preventing NMS from evolving more complex and dynamic terrain features?

Would you be willing to lose your bases for them to update these features?

Is there a solution that could be implemented to let them keep growing fundamental changes without blowing away all the bases?

Let me know what you think.

Getting started and making friends along the way

Getting started and making friends along the way

“One step for a man are two steps for a Gek”

Just recently got into the game and having a blast!

Started my first settlement, got into pet hunting (currently working on a Space Bee like creature), plopped my first mineral extractor down and farming some sweet copper which I traded on the anomaly for a void egg with a sketchy fellow. Not sure what it does since I try to avoid spoilers but hey…. it said egg so I gotta have it! Landing pad back at the settlement got blocked by a S-Class Ship…. so I bought it, any name suggestions?

Met an other traveller on the anomaly who gifted me with a robotic creature egg after I showed my bee pet. Communicated through basic gestures….. hope he understood how grateful I am. You are part of my story now. Can’t wait to return the favor once my bee matures and starts laying eggs.

So yeah it’s going well…. bit afraid to die again from getting stuck with my ship against a building but I’m confident I got it this time. Taking it slow…. ½ step at a time.

Overwhelming steep learning curve for new players

Another Starfield refugee here finally taking the plunge into No Man’s Sky.

I made it to the first space station. I’m loving the exploration and customized difficulty settings but I’m feeling overwhelmed with all the tutorials, knowledge stones, ship fuel, outposts and resources.

What are the most useful materials I should buy?

What’s the deal with the Discoveries tab? It’s just uploading scans for Nanites?

Any advice on the best early game upgrades?

Flight controls feel pretty weird on Xbox controller. I felt like I was going to crash into the space station lol. Is there a sweet spot for sensitivity settings?

Any advice or new player tips is appreciated.

So uh... The first free freighter....

So uh... The first free freighter....

It’s supposed to be an S-class right? 😅

I still haven’t clicked the claim button because I’m still sort of in shock. I went through the dog fight event, checked out the freighter and was a B-class, but I had to shut off the game. I didn’t realize it didn’t save. When I reverted the save and did it again, the RNG seemed to have blessed me with a S Capital ship after the single accidental save scum.

I haven’t been playing that long and don’t fully understand what I’m looking at as far as quality. How good is she as freighters go?
