So, way back in Permadeath I found this Freezing Hell near the core of Calypso, so far nothing special right. But, the place had open ocean and I thought about building a small fishing boat right then and there. So now, in normal mode I did. So what is so special about it? First of all, the nearest places to land were this two pieces of rock located 2000 and 2500 units away, there is nothing out there. Also, the sounds are pretty eerie and there is some growling coming from the ocean, somewhere near my ship. So this is my fishing ship, named it The Orca… turns out quite convenient actually. Now, with the nightfall and storms, things get quite different, a lot. Most of these actually hit quite close to the ship, but that’s nothing. Think I’m gonna need a bigger boat… If you ever encountered a sea worm in the middle of nowhere, you will know it’s quite a sight. I’ve seen tons of them on the land and kinda got used to them, this one was quite a surprise. So, in part it’s the planet, in part the location if figured I’d try and build my boat… Anyway, figured I’d share. Built this in normal mode. Took me a while to find the damn planet again. submitted by /u/nightshift_syndicate |

You can have 60 tech slots on a starship, and 100+ inventory slots. Living Ships feel like a lot of trouble for no benefit. What am I missing? submitted by /u/Leahn [link] [comments]

I avoid planets that have large bodies of water because of lassophobia. The last thing I want is to accidentally crash my ship in the middle of the sea.
I also try to avoid planets with those giant worms. I have come across them in 4 different star systems now.
I avoid crashes freighters because I’m scared there might be something there to attack me.
I avoid the bases that are infected with eggs too.
All of these give me anxiety to I avoid these bits in the game.
Apart from the top 2, what am I missing out from not doing the others?
Also is there anything you avoid?

(First off, please excuse the sketchiness of the artwork, the length of the post and dreadful penmanship, secondly let’s get on with the show) Alrighty. So I’ve got about my first 260 hrs sunk into a save file & have just started a new one to…

Long ago, NMS only allowed players to own a single ship, making it a major decision on which ship type a traveler should go after. However, realizing this felt clunky, updates have been made over the years, ship slots increased, new tech modules, and new features added. This was a great call, but it did leave one mark: the distinctions between each ship didn’t matter anymore; Haulers don’t even have the benefit of additional cargo space, since all S-class ships can have the same total number of slots.
I was talking ship perks with someone, and it got me thinking that perhaps it would make sense to introduce new strengths to less used ship types. As I was mulling it over, I realized that some of these changes would have to be pretty potent to stand up to current-day standards — poor Shuttles, their only real signature is that their takeoff price is reduced, made obsolete by the auto-recharge modules. So I decided to spitball a few ideas trying to stay true to the ship’s purpose while taking 2024 NMS in mind, and see if the following suggestions are strong enough to make you think “oh yeah, I’d definitely want to own a [ship type].”
Shuttles:
Haulers:
Living:
Explorer:
Let me know if these are along the right lines, and whether you’d fly one of these if they had these perks.

El title.
Why bother to name stuff if you’re the only one who can ever see the name? Is there a way to let others see the name?

While I struggle with anxiety so it is difficult for me to egg myself into the multiplayer scene in the game, I just have to applaud ALL of you guys. This is the most non-toxic gaming community I think I’ve ever seen and I have been a gamer for a goood…
