Do-it-yourself new character challenges

As much as I like cruising around the galaxy with my fully kitted-out main character, I really like the beginning stages of the game. I guess it was partly because of doing the achievements and expeditions, but I got addicted to the first few days of game time when your resources and abilities are limited, and I tend to start new characters and level them until I got bored and delete them.

But lately I've been setting challenges for myself. It started simple; get to an S-class multitool, ship, and freigter. Okay, that was fun. Full explorer run, maxing out the Explorer's Guild rep? Cool.

So then I started getting a little more elaborate.

Neural Assembly
You are a stranded alien life form who's managed to weld themselves to a robotic body, and you're desperate to re-connect to your people. Put the Ares head on an Autophage body and get to the living ship as fast as possible.

Octopus' Garden
You are a grumpy octopoid being who just wants to be left alone to make things and get wealthy. Build a base that includes a fully functional production line making fusion ignitors and stasis cores, deep underwater. Wear the Iteration: Gemini head. Use the bubble trail.

My next one's going to be fun.

Rebel Scum
You are a robot, and that makes you mad. Full-on Autophage run. Get a sentinel S-class ship, an S-class autophage staff or sentinel weapon, and a pirate frigate. Make a seriously badass autophage getup. Max out pirate reputation.

Does anyone else do these little self-created kind-of story-like expeditions? Any other suggestions?

More "Transparency" with base building stats.

Bases are great, planets to build them on are different for each player yet almost endless for each player too. And so its a thing people do a lot unless they really just dont like base building.

However there are some limits to the base building, for example. How far out you can extend the base, how many parts can be uploaded to servers, and how much terrain edit data is saved. I believe, to the best of my knowledge, that these values are never presented to the player, when they REALLY should be.

For example:

At your base computer, it could tell you how many placed parts you have (and the upload limit)

You could see somewhere how much terrain edit you have left.

And in build mode, a wall of light could surround the 1000u radius around the base and appear as you get close to it.

These UI changes would make a big difference in the information the player recieves around base building. One can know the 3000 upload limit, but who is keeping count? And really, should the player be the one keeping count in a physical note, like a tally for each base part they place? NO that’s ridiculous. And so the info would be good to know.

Some people, especially newer players, are really upset when they find out the hard way, and it can even cause people to not use base building for a while because the project they worked on for hours is all underground, or the massive “city” thing they were building only uploads part of the build and so to other people it looks unfinished. And these bad surprises could be avoided if the game gave you the info. I my self remember being really upset when I found these things out the hard way a few years ago. And I can imagine a lot of newer players will feel the same, especially with the updated parts etc…

I have no words

Talk about feeling absolutely stupid and crushed.

I have spent countless hours working on my main file to build with my dad. I was in a really good spot, enough units to cover any needs. My dad and I even shared the same planet. I was trophy hunting on a second file but did it wrong. I went to delete it. Y’all probably know where this is headed.

I deleted the wrong file.

And I have no one to blame but myself.

I will admit. I am sobbing. I worked so hard to be in a good place for my dad to be practically carefree. Now all of that is gone.

I would really appreciate any suggestions on how to move things forward quickly( getting upgrades, nanites, and units). It really hurts, but I have no one to blame but myself. I don’t even know if I should tell my dad. I feel so incredibly guilty.
