Anyone know about this archetype of fauna?

If you’ve played NMS long enough, you’ve probably noticed fauna that look like this or similar. They may not be this massive of size, and may not have that mantis looking head on it, but it will be the same basic archetype. I know everything in the game is procedurally generated, but this archetype in general seems to be (at least in my experience) one of if not the most used one. I see them on every type of planet (besides barren). Anyone know why this could be? Did the devs just like this archetype? My personal thought was that they sort of look like crustaceans, and crustaceans are one of the most successful groups of animals on earth, so maybe that’s why they chose to make so many? Am I thinking about this too hard lol? By the way: not my picture, stole this off the internet cause I was too lazy to go find an example. submitted by /u/chevchelios12 |
