A quick question about upgrading ships

I noticed a lot of people look for S class versions of a ship (not freighters etc) but let's say you found a perfect version of a ship you want physically, but it was B class.

Would it be possible to upgrade that ship to a level as if you had found a natural S class? Is there any reason we don't see people do that? Is it just the time it would take to do or is it that an upgraded S class is some way inferior?

Stupid story.

Long story short I put some stuff in my refiner on my freighter, went for a stroll on the outside of it and managed to clip through the wall and get trapped inside but up above the hanger area.

Just as I thought I was making an escape, my life support started draining rapidly for no obvious reason.

Not wanting to die, I quit the game, and rebooted it. When I loaded back in I was in my ship in full control, flying inside the hanger. I managed to land and everything was fine, expect the stuff I was refining was just gone.

So, RIP to all that slime that could’ve become a pile of nanites.

I think there's something I don't understand with the nautilon

So I’m doing the dreams of the depths quest, I built the nautilon and added the scanner thingy, and now I’m supposed to use it to find a sunken freighter

The games tells me to use the quick menu to activate the scanner

But there is no quick menu? Or at least I can’t access it?

What am I supposed to do then? Swim across the whole planet untill the regular scanner finds something?
