A few reasons why the next update is most likely an exploration update (with sources)
Sean Murray in the IGN origins interview stated that origins is a foundation for a new chapter of no mans sky. “Exploration has been something that we haven’t really…touched. With origins, we took a really big step in that direction” (paraphrase)
. Sean has also been on record saying that 2021 No mans sky is focusing more on exploration and origins was just the foundation (CANT find post, link in comments if you find it!) • • Compasses were mainly used by old explorers to find there way to and from, as well as marking coordinates at said location. If we go by past updates, the emojis are either a play on words/ and or directly correlate with the update. With this in mind, the update can either be two things. Navigation oriented/ or exploration oriented.
I believe it will be exploration oriented based on Sean’s “flirtatious” Twitter activity of both posting Modded Pathfinder screenshots, as well as some other things.(link below)
