Please help me figure out what the hell just happened to me...

So I’m fairly early on in the game (I think). I was warping between systems/galaxies, whatever they are, trying to trigger a space fight to get my free freighter. I warp and see what looks like a black hole hanging around in space straight after I warp. It’s not the system I was told to warp to as part of the main story mission that has something to do with black holes…There’s no dialogue boxes or icons on the compass at the top of the screen telling me what it is. So I fly into it, and then the standard warp loading screen plays. Nothing like the videos I’ve just watched from others flying through a black hole in this game. Then it spits me out in some random system and I have no idea where I am or what I’m supposed to do! In the Galaxy Map I can’t find any of the places I previously visited (I’d only warped like twice, maybe three times before this and close by my starter stuff). I seem to have lost one of the three main quests also…

So, do I stay and do stuff in this far away system, no where near any of the main story quests or previous stuff? Or do I leave and go back to where I was, though I may never get back here? Sorry this is rambling but I’m beyond confused at what the hell just happened.

Expedition 7 Tips

This Expedition is a survial expedition – play it like that!

1) You need to die once to get a milestone – do this right at the beginning

2) don’t linger on the first planet. Get your ship repaired, if you can grab some money, thats great. But don’T try to make millions.

3) head to the space station – remember, you can enlarge your inventory twice per system (station/anomaly)

4) always use the free inventory for the “cargo” inventory since it can carry double the amount of the normal one.

5) Ion batteries, life support gel are your live-saver: one “cargo” space can hold 200, use that. Shild batteries for your spacecraft are great as an insurance, too.

6) Often damage goes right to your health points. Store some animal remains (like cat liver), eating them restores your healt points!

7) You know who neither cares about fall-damage (that much) or extreme storms: your minotaur. Yes, it’s slow and cumbersome – but it can get you around on a planet alive.

8) The following rewards from other expeditions help, collect them asap: golden vector (of course), Normandy (since you start with a freigther you can send it to make you money) and the “alien monster egg” (hatching it counts for one of the milestones)

9) you start with a freighter – free storage room! Plus, with a bit of money you can build all ten storage “cubes”

10) The base milestone will send you to the wrong planet: the base has to be built on one of the planets with a meeting point (or at least the same class).

Not enjoying the game as a newbie, what can I do to enjoy it better?

So my brother got No Man’s Sky and encouraged me to get it so I can play with him. I’m more of an JRPG fan who plays a ton of single player, narrative-driven games that deep dives into character relationships (e.g. Xenoblade Chronicles, Nier, Persona).

I used to play FPS multiplayer games when I was younger but not really anymore. I never played an open sandbox game and the game’s visuals looked great. I love the sci-fi and space genre and the game was on Steam, sale so why not?

Unfortunately, I find the whole mining/crafting and base building pretty tedious, boring and a monotonous grind. Conversely, my brother loves it. He’s already spent 40+ hours on it. I’m only 9 hours so far.

I changed a lot of the settings to Free for Crafting, Purchases, Blueprints etc. because I hate grinding (even in RPGs and other games). But now, I’m not sure what to do now that I can just get everything for free.

The one thing I do like is the exploration. Seeing new planets. Traversing the different systems and taking in the visuals. Admiring the landscapes, fauna, animals, etc.

I hope this doesn’t sound like I’m bashing the game. I genuinely want to find a way I can experience this game in a way that’s fun for me and enjoy it with my brother or solo. But feel free to call me out too if you think this isn’t the game for me.
